How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Typically, the garage door opener lights don`t turn on because a light bulb needs to be replaced. There are a few things you can check: Light bulb. Light socket or logic board.
Wall switch not responding

Most switches have two wires. To test the wires, detach both from the switch and carefully touch them together. If the opener responds, the switch may be the issue. If nothing happens, new wires are in order and you`ll need to replace them with 18- to 22-gauge wire.

If your Genie garage door remote is working unreliably or only at a close distance, its batteries may be losing their charge. Alternatively, the device may be at the end of its lifespan. Another possibility is that there may be electrical interference.
Your Genie garage door opener will not open or close if the operator has no power connection. Try plugging a lamp or a tool into the socket where your garage door opener was plugged to see if there is any power. You may need to check to make sure your circuit breaker has not tripped.
Broken Tension Springs. A broken spring repair is one of the most common reasons why a garage door is not opening. Garage tension springs store mechanical energy that controls the movement of the garage door. Wear and tear could weaken the tension springs, which could lead to the garage door not working.
Disrupted Remote Signal

It might be a great idea to replace your batteries. However, if the door still does not open, then the signal between the opener transmitter and the remote may be disrupted. This means your remote control is out of range or the door opener receiving antennae is disrupted or damaged.

Lifespan of a Garage Door Opener

It`s crucial to know that the average life expectancy of a garage door opener may not be as long as your garage door. The average lifespan of a garage door opener is 10 to 15 years, and like your garage door, many factors contribute to its durability.

Remote controls and/or keypads stop working. The circuits that detect the remote signals could be damaged. Change the batteries in case those happened to die out at the same time. If new batteries do not help, it`s most likely the result of a lightning power surge.
After placing fresh batteries in your remote, if the door still won`t respond, then the signal between the remote and opener transmitter may be disrupted. Two common causes for a signal interruption is if your remote is out of range or the opener receiving antennae is damaged.
Red LED: The battery has drained and is unable to recharge. It will need to be replaced. If a red LED remains on and is accompanied by a beep sounding every 30 seconds when power is not interrupted the battery can no longer recharge.
The sensor is a small motion sensor at the bottom of the garage door (on most models) that prevents the door from closing if it senses an obstruction.
Make sure none of the remote buttons are jammed or stuck. The remote control battery terminals may be dirty. Remove the batteries and clean the remote control terminals with a small solution of alcohol, using a cotton bud or soft cloth, then place the batteries back into the remote control.
A: The one button just opens the garage door. The three button has one to lock the door (if compatible) and one for the light.
In many cases, a switch will fail to operate correctly because wire connections—either circuit splices inside the electrical box, or wires connected to the switch itself—have become loose, preventing the circuit current from following its designated path.

If you press the button on the remote and the garage door doesn`t open, something might be blocking the signal. Alternately, you might be out of range. There is also the possibility that the remote antenna on the opening device has been obstructed or damaged.

I have a Liftmaster garage door opener and the garage door faces south. Normally the opener works great except at certain times on a sunny day.The sunlight is not directly hitting one of the sensors but the door will comedown as far as half way and then it will go back up and the lights will flash. If I go inside and use the button I can hold it down until the door is fully closed. However, sure is a pain to have to take the car out, go back into the garage, shut the door and then leave the h
ANSWER : Sounds like a problem with a limit switch or something getting in the way of the electric eye that interrupts for safety reasons. .Clean the electric eye transmitter and sensor of debris and cobwebs and make sure the wires are attached properly..Check the operation of the lifting media track or chain. Has it been lubricated recently?.If possible, clean the switch in the transmitter in the car, it may be shorting out.

I have a Hampton Bay Midili fan which I just installed about a month ago and it was working fine. A few days ago when I flipped the switch on the light flickered on and off consistently until I turned the switch off. The remote also stopped working to control the fan and light. Since this model only can be controlled by the remote I am worried I will have to replace the remote already after only 1 month!
ANSWER : In many of these remote controlled lamps you cant use the new spiral light bulbs .. you can only use standard incandescent lights .. if thats not the trouble then you may indeed have a bad controller (in the fan) .. there is probably at least a 90 day warranty maybe as much as 3 years .. make sure the wire nut power connections are secure inside the fan.. if one of the the wires in the fan are not making contact then you will see a similar problem .. once in a while i have seen strong external RF signals interfere with the controller but thats rare and usually doesnt last long ..
.
.i would : 1. check all the connections .. 2. replace the light bulb to make sure its not flakey or the wrong type .. 3. try to get the fan replaced in warranty ..

I have a remote Hunter Ceiling Fan w/ remote 1-2-3 fan speed buttons and one on/off/dimmer light button. Model Number CP-9110R. It only has one pull string and it is for the light. I would like convert the light to work off of a simple wall on/off switch and the fan to be controlled by a 3-speed pull string. Can I by-pass all the sensors and make it work?
ANSWER : I see noone has answered so I will.Yes,it could be done, but if there is not a conversion kit for your fan,it would not be wise to do it.For starters, all of the things required would probably cost at least $15.Also,there is at least one tool you would most likely need, probably do not already have, and would easily double that.Electrical considerations would be proper wire guage(thickness),rewiring, attaching to a switch which is in place solid. Also, with the fan so close to the ceiling there is a bad fire hazard.
.Depending on how nice of a fan you would like,it probably costs between $50-$100.It would save you time, headaches, and uncertainty of fire starting. If the fan is on when noone is home, that would be a worrisome situation.Your house would be almost engulfed before anyone noticed and it would be too late to save anything. Also,if you do not want to keep your current fan,you could take it down and sell it and put the money towards a new one.You may not like my answer, but I have years of training and simply like to inform and educate people who are looking for answers.Whether I can help them or not,I tell them what to do and why.Greg

There is also a wall switch plate with two circular controls – one pushes and spins, the other turns with 4 clicks. We can not get the light or the fan to operate using either the switches or the remote. We have checked the circuit breaker. The manual that came with the unit – provided to us from the previous homeowner – really only describes how to install the uni

REMOTE CONTROL IS MALFUNCTIONING & NOT TURNING ON CUSHION – Hello. I bought a used (by near new) Shiatsu+ Massaging Cushion from Ebay. When I installed it today the remote control was faulty. When you push the Power button, the blue light comes on, but none of the other buttons work. When you push the Power button again to turn it off, it clicks & turns itself back on again. So it’s running but nothing is happening in the massage cushion.
I did see a card in the box saying “For the Shiatsu
ANSWER : Before you use this cushion you MUST first ‘unlock’ the rollers which are held in place by a screw which MUST be removed or the unit will self destruct. The manufacturer provides a hex wrench to remove the shipping screw and a large label on the back of the device states that if the screw is not removed then the item will be damaged when you turn it on.

The large tag says “For the shiatsu mechanism to function, you MUST remove and discard screw BEFORE using this cushion. Failure to do so WILL CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE PRODUCT”. The manual does not mention this screw. There is a two year warranty and a $(ten dollar) handling fee for warranty repairs. I suppose that the warranty is void if you do not remove the screw, however, it seems that only by luck would one normally find this shipping screw (and tag) that holds the rolling mechanism in place during shipping....Remove the screw from the back as instructed by the manual. When you first get the massage cushion you will need to open the box and set it up. The first thing you need to do is remove the safety screw. This screw is holding the massage mechanism in place for shipping purposes. If you do not remove this screw before you turn it on you could permanently damage the cushion. After removing the screw you need to find a good chair and strap it on and plug it in. There are two straps that you need to attach. One is on the back and the other is where the back meets the seat. Once those are around the chair then you plug in the transformer to the wall and the massager. After setting up the massager all you need to do is sit on it and turn it on. You may want to start out with a rolling massage so that you can get a feel for the massager.————–.but as you mentioned, that its a used product, then yes the screw must be already removed by the previous user.and in that case, it indicates any thing internally is got shorted, a loose wire or shorted transformer or burned circuit or weak motor. This are few possibilities , that can cause the problem. Also check batteries in remote.——— And i dont think, this problem is caused by you. This problem must be there before buying this product.Thats why, the user must have sold this on ebay.A local electrical parts repair store tech can get the internal board checked and confirm. If this board is faulty or any small loose wire or shorted wire.————–.This should help.Thanks.Helpmech..

I have a Casa Blanca Intelitouch ceiling fan.
Panama5
12004T model no.??
serial no.: AU16550
A casa blanca tri-switch on the wall: lights-fan-power

When I turn it on, the lights and fan work fine.
After a period of time, the lights go off by themselves.
I don’t remember the fan ever going off by itself, only the lights.

ANSWER : The light are going off only because after a period of time the circuit lets off the trigger on the switching thyristor. So the fault is within the control box of the unit which must be taken out to confirm.
.Now attempt to do the job only if your are competent with high voltage circuits as the circuit must be checked before and after the lights switch off.
.It is also possible that the switching device the thyristor may be on dry soldering joint. So with the mains power off( or the power disconnected to the unit) have yourself insulated , use a soldering iron to touch up all the joints.
.Failure of capacitors in the trigger circuit is also possible to have this delay off.
.Trace the trigger voltage cut off at this point to come to the solution.( use a multimeter)
