Before mopping, sweep or vacuum the floor to remove grit, hair, and other large particles. Removing the everyday accumulation of dirt first makes the task of mopping less arduous. Be sure to blot dry any wet areas before sweeping or vacuuming; otherwise, you`ll dirty the floor further by spreading the grime.
Steam mops are great for sealed hard floors like tile, stone, marble and hardwood, but heat and steam can penetrate some types of flooring and cause damage. Don`t use a steam mop on unsealed wood, unglazed ceramic tile or vinyl plank flooring. If you`re not sure, check with your flooring manufacturer.
Heated moisture can damage hardwood floors over time, so it`s best to only use steam on sealed surfaces, like ceramic or tile. While steam mops are great for killing germs, a spray or microfiber mop is a better choice for multipurpose and multisurface cleaning.
Steam cleaning a floor should be your option for all routine maintenance washing. For most people, this means using it once a week, though it might need to be done more frequently in active families or during certain times of the year when more outdoor grime is carried in.
Do: Wipe up excess dirt before steaming. Steam mops essentially employ steam to loosen grime, which the mop head then clears away, but there`s no suction element in this appliance. This means that surface dirt will need to be vacuumed or swept up before you begin or you`ll only succeed in pushing dirt across the house.
Mix your purchased descaler or mix 1 1/2 oz. of baking soda with one quart of clean water. Fill the empty tank with this mix. Seal the unit and turn the steam cleaner on so that it begins heating.

My Europro shark steam mop won’t steam, light on but no steam.
ANSWER : Hard water deposits. I ran some white vinegar through mine, like a coffee maker, and it worked for a while, but clogged again. So I unplugged it, let it cool and turned it over in the bathtub and squirted a small amount of Lime-Away into the hole where the steam comes out. Let it soak for 5- 10 minutes and it is working like is is brand new.

ANSWER : I tried running vinegar through as you would a coffee pot to get rid of hard water scales. This did not work. Then I noticed that the light behind the shark decal on the front of the machine was going off and on. And sure enough as I moved the cord around the light would come off and on. Looking closer I could see the the heat had melted thru some of the cord.I bought mine at Target before xmas last year, throwing away the sales slip after several months so I guess there is nothing I can do about it.

After plugging in the steam mop, waiting for the 30 sec, pumping 12-15 times – no steam comes out. the tank is full and if i take off the bottom attachment the steam sprays everywhere. but the steam will not come out when mop head is on. thanks

I loved my Shark Steam Pocket Mop, but it suddenly stopped producing steam through the mop heads. The water is heating and I can see and hear steam coming out of the actually body of the mop, but it will not go through to the head. I have thought of running white vinegar through it.
