How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
Vacuum hoses come in various sizes, and they often play a part in many individual`s buying decisions when shopping for a new wet/dry or shop vacuum. Smaller diameter vacuum hoses are often more navigable and flexible, not to mention lighter, and for specific applications, there are performance benefits.
Screw your sprinkler or jet into the water stop connector.
Then, twist the hose and accessory together until they`re tightened snugly. If you have a quick-connect attachment on your sprayer and hose, just push the end of the sprayer into the connector on the end of your hose.
Ensure to empty it either way. If you`re vacuuming water, you should take away the filter. Some models will allow you to utilize one specially made for wet cleaning, but only if you`re dealing with a little liquid. In that case, don`t forget to rinse it later and leave it to dry.
You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely. Liquids will damage filters, and you could even potentially ruin your vacuum if you suck up water before removing the filter.
A dry vacuum system does not use water to generate suction. A wet vacuum needs significant water flow to generate suction.
To clean your shop vac, fill the canister basin with water and bleach to kill germs and bacteria. Rinse out the hose with water and run it through until the water comes out clean. Use a power washer or a high-pressure hose to rinse out the filters. Dry the unit entirely with a clean rag so it is ready for its next use.
Vacuum hoses are pressurized. Therefore, you can`t just place a vacuum hose over a fitting. Unless it`s clamped, the vacuum hose may leak. Loop clamps protect vacuum hoses from leaks by securing them to fittings.

ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.
.2. When picking up large amounts of liquid
.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off
.airflow. When this happens, turn off
.the vac, unplug the power cord, and
.empty the drum. You will know that the
.float has risen because vac airflow
.ceases and the motor noise will
.become higher in pitch, due to
.increased motor speed.
.IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage
.to the vac do not run motor with float
.in raised position

I have an old Shop Vac model 3331.5. This is a 12 gallon 1.5 hight peak shop vac with a detachable blower. After many years I decided to use the blower feature, but have lost the lost the manual. Question; how do I attach the hoses to the blower? The motor has that cap on it the direct the flow of air in one direction and the wide hoses do not fit over it. I may be missing a part, but I would think the directional cap would have to come off anyway.
ANSWER : Remove the cap that directs the air and insert the hose in there.

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.
