For a deeper clean, Wilcox recommends vacuuming forward and backward over each area. “If you want a crazy good clean, go over the carpet in all directions so your brush hits the carpet fibers on all sides,” she says.

If you only vacuum in one direction, you`re not removing all of the dirt and dust. Some of it can hide under carpet fibers, and vacuuming in both directions—north and south, and east and west—will ensure you get every last speck of dust out of your carpet.

Automatic Cord Rewinder is not rewinding anymore
ANSWER : I had the same problem – the power cord for my Hoover Elite Upright (U5507900) was stuck a few inches out and wouldn’t go any further. But when I unscrewed the rewinding mechanism, the cord had clearly gotten twisted and partly buried under itself so after some work I was able to free it. Now it seems to be working fine, at least for the moment. Note that I had to use small screwdrivers to unscrew the cord rewinding compartment, like the kind of screwdrivers you use for computer repair.

Cord rewinder on a Electrolux model C102J vacum cleaner
ANSWER : Hi there Johnd, SmartAlec from Nelsonvacuums.com.au here. I fix vacuums full time for a living and the first time i had this problem with the australian version of this vacuum it tok me an hour to pull it apart and back together. now i have done a dozen or so it is about a 30minute operation. I dont know what you rate your technical skill level at but i give this machine a 8/10 for hardness. It is most likely that the cord has jumped off the reel and is wedged so it shouldn’t require parts but it cant be done without nearly stripping it down. There is no reset or similar for the reel. My advice unless your very confident take it to a repairer. It would be 1/2 – 1hr of labour charge only i would think.

Bosch canister vac BSG81313. Took cover off to remove lots of hair, dirt etc from running without bag in place. Everything went back together OK, but cord reel spring went zip when cover was removed. How do I rewind the spring so there is tension when the cord is pulled out ? Wound cord back onto reel, but reel just clicks ever revolution etc…no tension when cord is pulled out of vac.

ANSWER : The spring inside the hub of the cord wheel has escaped from the locking tab. You must completely dismantle the vacuum to access the cord wheel – take it out, reattach the spring and reassemble the unit. All you need is a phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers and some patience.

.I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.The question I have is it the Electrolux or the Royal cordwinder, if the cordwinder is sprung you may have to get a new one or a good used one, it’s been a while since I have done a cordwinder and I have seen it done, but I know when you remove the cordwinder you need to lock in the spring so that it does not loose it tension and re-coil ability. You may want to ask your local vac dealer to see if you need to repair or replace. I have a hoover upright bagless – turbo power 6500 The cord has been run over and I just noticed white stuff on the cord where it is tattered. My husband said he saw it 6 months ago and never said anything! Anyway, what is that white stuff in the cord? Is it dangerous in any way? Is it insulation? What is that usually made of? ANSWER : It can be potentially dangerous. What you see is the cord insulation, if you move that a little you can see the power wires. They are coated and cannot hurt you if not damaged. If i were you i would wrap it in electrical tape or best thing would to get it replaced. You can replace it your self. Order the cable from Sears Parts store(link to your model)then your husband can install it. But not to sound rude if he didnt say anthing about that damaged power cord he may not be the right person for the job. He should have known it could be dangerous and thankfully your child wasn’t hurt or you two either.
Here is the part number (Part# 46383334) and it will cost you about $20 plus shipping. The cord is item number 63. Let me know if you have further questions./

.First, open the lid and take the bag, and hepa filter out of the machine.

.With a slot screwdriver, pry the hinges of the bag door out a little and take the bag door off.

.You should see one screw holding the black black panel, remove that. When that is out, you can pull the black panel off. It will give a little resistance to you, do not be afraid of breaking it, it will come off.

.Next you will see 4 or 5 screws down the holes there, remove all of them and the final remaining red piece will come off. When you pull this off, it will have both the cord rewinder and the motor assembly attached to it. It will be heavy becasue of the motor. Before you pull out the cord rewinder, just have a look at it closely and you may be able to just fix it without removing anything else.
