How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

You can find these numbers if you look for them. The 6.5 hp (4849 watts) shopvac would be pulling 45 amps.
Well, the formula is typically the same in case of shop vacs, regardless of whether they are big or small. If you are a homeowner, your wet-dry vac should have more or less 1.5 – 2 Hp. If you are a contractor, the Hp should be a minimum of 3 in that case.
A: you can use 1.5 hp 1 gallon shop vac with a 1000 watt inverter, would work just fine.

How Many Amps Does a Vacuum Cleaner Use? An effective vacuum cleaners use high-quality motors that provide sufficient suction and generate from 3.5 to 8 amps of current.
Most upright cleaners are seven to 12 amps. Many canister models are 12 amps. The maximum allowable amps that can be plugged into a household outlet is 12 amps. So even if your vacuum has the highest possible amps, it does not mean that is is necessarily the better the vacuum.
Power. Most people should only require a 3.5 to 5 peak horsepower motor for their wet/dry vac. If it can suction up water and sawdust, you`re probably good to go.
Unlike regular vacuums, shop vacs are durable and capable of handling dust, debris, and heavy objects that need to be picked up. They have powerful suction and they do not throw dust and other irritants into the air the way that regular vacuums or sweeping might.
To get excellent suction power, have a higher HP. If you have already vacuuming stuff, any 1-2 hp vac will do for removing dirt, san, and all types of debris. You are recommended to go for 4-5 hp.
They`re mostly not rated for continuous use, unlike full HVLP dust extraction systems so expect to see limited motor lifetime when run for many hours continuously.
For safety reasons, it is always recommended to go for a somewhat larger battery – generally, regardless of the battery chemistry 12V 100Ah battery is the smallest battery recommended for the 12V 1000W power inverter.
If you`re using a 1000 watt inverter on the go, you`ll likely have more than enough capacity for anything you could possibly need. You could charge nearly 20 cellphones at once or run at least ten laptops. You could even run several large televisions simultaneously.
Re: Need to run a shop vac on car battery

You can use your car battery and a power inverte that you connect to battery an 1200 watt or a 2000 watt. Will do. I`ve used one a few times some would also recommend a marine battery.

But not to worry, appliances are designed to operate within a range of voltages from 110 to 120. For the purposes of understanding vacuum cleaner specifications the only thing about voltage we really need to know is the formula, amps x volts = watts and conversely, watts/volts = amps.
Air watts are a European test standard (IEC60312) for vacuums. An upright vacuum cleaner should be around 100 air watts and a cylinder vacuum cleaner needs to be about 220 air watts.
A regular sized household vacuum cleaner will use between 500 and 3000 watts of energy, an average best selling model will use around 1400 watts.
Next, you need to consider suction power. Typically expressed in Pa (pascals), this is a measurement of how powerful the motor is inside a robot vacuum. A good number to look for here is around 2,000Pa or above for an effective clean.
So a 1000W vacuum cleaner will use 1 kilowatt (1000 Watts) of electricity in 1 hour. The point here is that it is a consumption measurement, rather than a power output measurement… it tells you nothing about suction. If you want to use more electricity, then use a vacuum cleaner with higher wattage.
Remember the equation watts = volts*amps. If you have a 1,500W heater at 120V, it is using 12.5amps (1,500/120=12.5).
A 250-volt, 20-amp outlet is used for high-power appliances.
80 CFM gives it plenty of suction to pick up most debris from dust and dirt to sawdust and wood chips. I vacuumed out the office and the shop area to find that it works great on tile and concrete floors. It`s a good fit to clean off tools and workbenches as well.

Suction Power

This is an indication of how good the vacuum cleaner is to clean – i.e. the work to be done. The suction power is measured in Watt (W) and is typically between 250 W and 450 W for machines with 1 motor.

Two-stage vacuums typically operate at lower speeds. This results in longer motor life and quieter operation when utilizing a small-horsepower motor. This explains why you should not focus on horsepower alone when buying a vacuum.

ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.
.2. When picking up large amounts of liquid
.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off
.airflow. When this happens, turn off
.the vac, unplug the power cord, and
.empty the drum. You will know that the
.float has risen because vac airflow
.ceases and the motor noise will
.become higher in pitch, due to
.increased motor speed.
.IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage
.to the vac do not run motor with float
.in raised position

I have a Simplicity S24 canister vacuum. It’s about 3 yrs. old. In the past year I have had it in the shop 4 times because when using the rug piece, the piece turns on & off, on & off. The actual vacuum doesn’t… just the rug piece. I recently spent $65 on a new part, after spending countless dollars the other 3 times it was in the shop for this problem. I’m ready to buy another name vacuum altogether as I feel this vacuum is not worth the money that was spent on it. I’m very frustrated.
ANSWER : Repair shop has not fixed the problem? complain until they fix it properly. This is a pressure fault / jamming issue or slipping drive. Repair shop should have fixed it 1st time.

Central vac our central vac will not work unless the main vac in the garage is switched on manualy…. its sucking fine but i have to switch it off at the main switch in the garage after i have used it normaly i just plug in the hose and vac away and it switches itself off we have just had cable installed with a fisher guy in the walls do you think that would be the problem thanks a lot
ANSWER : It is possible that the low voltage wiring that controls your central vacuum has been damaged during the cable work. You can check to see if the low voltage relay is working by shorting the two terminals together at the unit. Just disconnect the two small (18-22 gauge) wires from the unit and short across the terminals where the wires connect. If the unit comes on, the vacuum is fine, and it is most likely the low voltage control wires that have been damaged. It should be a pretty easy fix, if you can get to where the wires are located. They are probably just pulled apart at a joint. Good Luck!!
