How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Plug the PowerSteamer into a proper outlet and turn ON the Power switch. While pressing the trigger, slowly make several passes over the area to be cleaned. Caution: Do not overwet. Turn the machine Power switch OFF and let BISSELL Advanced Deep Cleaning Formula dissolve the tough soil for 1-2 minutes.
Squeeze the cleaning trigger and hold it while pushing the PowerSteamer forward and pulling it back. Release the trigger and push the machine forward and back again over the same area. Repeat this process in overlapping sections over the carpet area to be cleaned.
The water tank is on the top of the machine. Lift the water tank cap straight up to open it. Then use the water cup provided to fill your tank with a maximum of nineteen ounces.
Steam cleaners heat steam to a minimum temperature of 212 °F (100°C) and emit powerful jets of hot vaporized water that can loosen dirt, kill germs as well as break up grease, stains and even mould.
On machines it`s on a white label like this. It`s usually on the lower back or bottom of the machine (for Lift-Off® models, remove the Lift-Off pod to find label) or behind the cleaning tanks.
A possible cause might be that the tank is not properly seated. To assure the tank is seated properly, pick it up and re-seat is so it sits snugly on the unit. If this doesn`t fix the problem, make sure the tank is assembled properly. To make sure they are both latched properly, pick the tank up by its handle.
Check the suction inlet on the body of the vacuum and clear it of debris if needed. Remove the hose from the base of the machine and remove any debris as needed. If necessary, you may use a broom handle to unclog the hose by pushing through both openings.
But you might be a little disappointed if you expect this tool to heat up its own water. Despite its name being the Bissell ProHeat, this carpet cleaner doesn`t actually heat up the water it uses to clean your floors.
The ProHeat® Carpet Cleaner has a built-in heater to heat tap water up to 25 degrees hotter for optimum cleaning.
Some carpet steam cleaners use a combination of water and steam. These will be two tank machines, which collect water too. These are often better at stain removal than models which purely use steam. A carpet cleaner, on the other hand, uses water and carpet shampoo to remove a stain or general dirt.
Your BISSELL steam cleaner can tackle all manner of hard and soft surfaces around your home, using it on floors or as an upholstery steam cleaner, as well as on carpets, mattresses, pet beds and children`s toys.
So, you`ve decided to buy a Bissell Power Steam Pro Carpet Cleaner and are wondering what other cleaning solutions you can use in it. Well, you can use Baking soda, Vinegar, Castile soap, or even Warm Water.
BISSELL SpotClean ProHeat features HeatWave Technology® to maintain consistent water temperature while cleaning for heated cleaning, just add hot tap water!
turning clockwise. NOTE: You may substitute distilled or demineralized water for tap water. If your tap water contains a high level of mineral content (hard water) the use of distilled or demineralized water is recommended.
How many watts should a clothes steamer be? Balanzat recommends looking for steamers between 1,000 and 2,000 watts. Consider the types of fabrics you plan to use your steamer with. If you`re only using it on delicate fabrics or one garment at a time, you might get away with a lower wattage.
The answer is simple: You boil some water and let the steam cook the food. While it may sound pretty simple and self-explanatory, this style of cooking does take a bit of patience and learning to master.
You should set the clothes steamer to medium heat. This is typically between 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit, which will be hot enough to remove wrinkles but not burn your fabrics.
The steam in the steam cooker is water boiling temperature, approximately 100°C.
The level you set your vacuum depends on the height of your carpet. For bare floors, use the lowest or bare floor setting, for short and medium pile carpets use a medium setting and finally, for plush carpets use the highest setting.
Flow Indicator

This is located on the machine base. It spins when the trigger is pressed to indicate that the machine is applying cleaning solution to the carpet and will stop spinning when the formula tank or bladder needs to be refilled, or when the trigger is released.

Using formula cap on the clean water tank, pour 1-2 capfuls of formula (2.5 – 5 fl oz) into the tank, for stained and heavily soiled carpets use 2 capfuls. For all other rental and full size extraction machines. Use 2.5 fl oz to each gallon of hot top water. Repeat as needed.
When too much water is added to the water tank, the boiling water will start to “spit” out of the steam nozzle. To prevent this from happening, please be sure to only fill the water tank to the “MAX” line as indicated on the water tank of your Hand Held Steamer.
If you find that your CleanView vacuum is hard to push, you may need to adjust the height adjustment dial. The highest setting should be used for high pile and most shag carpet.
First, check to make sure the clean tank has water and/or the water & formula mixture in the tank. If your tank is empty, this could be the reason your machine is not spraying. You will need to fill your clean tank again. Reseat the tank and ensure it sits snug on the machine.

My Bissell 25A3 ProHeat wont spray water – Bissell 1698 PowerSteamer ProHeat Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum
ANSWER : I had two problems. No water was coming out of the main unit (it was working fine via the powerbrush) and the flow indicator wasn’t spinning. Because I’m out of warranty, I did two things (after trying all the options that were posted).
.1. Removed the top of the main unit. There are 4 screws on the top back lid. Once you remove those, lift the back up towards the front. The front is snapped under the bottom casing. It should come up with a little pressure, but don’t force it. With the top lid removed, I had to clean several of the rubber hosing by removing them and running under warm water. I actually used a long wooden skewer to scrape the grime in the tube. Make sure you do one tube at a time and replace in as it was before moving to the next one. While you are at it, make sure the 2 sprayers on the front are clean as well. They are either orange or yellow and rubber tubes also feed into the sprayers. After I finished, I replaced the lid. It it still wasn’t working, so I tried step 2.
.
.2. Remove the hose assembly from the main handle. 2 screws and 2 bolds (don’t lose the nuts from the back). Once the hose assembly has been removed, then lift off the top part of the handle. Once the top is off you should be able to open the front lower part of the handle exposing the additional electrical and more rubber tubbing. In the middle is rectangular looking object. That is the water heater. If you just ran the vacuum, do NOT touch this as it will be hot. Wait for it to cool. check the connections of the rubber tubing and make sure they are clean. In my case the tube going in to the heater was all blocked up with cleaner solution. Once I cleaned that up an reassembled in reverse order, the unit worked fine.
.Hope that helps you.

I purchased my Bissel PowerSteamer Clearview a few years or so ago, and cannot find where I filed the manuals. If I find the actual seriel number on the Bissel PowerSteamer Clearview, Is there a way that I can purchase another manual? I really do not have any problem with my Bissel, but being I am 75 years of age and do not use it myself anymore, I want to give it to a daughter of mine (but I would like to have the manuals that go with it to give to her also).
ANSWER : No need my friend. Go here. All documentation is here…and….it’s free! Hope this helps : )

ANSWER : Does water squirt out of the hose, if it does your heater may be clogged, otherwise it could be the pump, is the round seal on the bottom of the tank on the valve, if not it needs to be. Is the back edge separating from the base, is so this will raise the tank and won’t spray.
