How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

First, check to make sure the clean tank has water and/or the water & formula mixture in the tank. If your tank is empty, this could be the reason your machine is not spraying. You will need to fill your clean tank again. Reseat the tank and ensure it sits snug on the machine.
Inspect the vacuum hose for any small holes, kinks, or cracks. Any cracks or holes will decrease the amount of suction in the hose and will not allow the carpet extractor to properly remove liquid from the floor. The hose will need to be replaced if there is damage.
Check your hose for any cracks or holes that can cause loss of suction. You may also have a clog in the lower hose. Pull down and at an angle to disconnect. A clog in the main hose could also be the problem.
If you still have reduced or no spray it might mean the pump has lost its prime. To fix this, turn the power off and then back on. Wait for one minute, then depress the trigger.
Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet.
Your dirty water tank may not be secured tightly. Check the rubber tab on the dirty water tank and press firmly on all edges to secure it tightly. The accessory hose door also needs to be closed securely. Check the door and make sure it is locked in place.
Your Vax carpet cleaner may not be picking up water because the machine has picked up too much grime, and has become blocked up. Check around the head of the carpet cleaner for anything obvious that might make the suction on the Vax weaker, or look for clumps of hair that could be caught in the bristles.

Bissel pro heat 2x wont spray any water – Bissell 9500 ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends Vacuum
ANSWER : I had the exact same problem with my ProHeat 2. It would spray only through the hose attachment but not on the floor. Cleaning of the spray endings on the floor unit fixed my problem. Either soap deposits or dirt was clogging the spray endings. Here is what to do to clean up the spray endings:
.
.1. Remove the water container from the bottom unit
.2. Look up for two red plastic endings on the bottom unit
.3. Using your fingers to clip sides of an ending, carefully remove it from its slot
.4. Using pliers, release the clamp from plastic ending and remove the red plastic ending from the hose
.5. Clean the ending
.6. Put the ending back on the hose, slide clamp back on the ending
.7. Insert the ending back in its slot
.8. Repeat 3-7 for the other ending
.
.That solved the problem for me!
