Overheating due to clogged exhaust filter The exhaust filter can also get clogged, causing a problem with the motor cooling. Therefore, you should also check the exhaust filter if the vacuum cleaner smells burnt. It is usually located on the top or back of the unit, right where the exhaust air comes out.
If you experience a burning rubber smell from your washer, you should inspect the pump belt. How to tell if the pump belt in a washing machine needs replacing: Disconnect your washer from the power source and open your washer`s cabinet. Locate and remove the pump belt in order to inspect it.
Replace the filter The vacuum filter will stop all the fine particulates and dust from getting into the inner workings of your vacuum, but can also store a lot of the odour causing material. We advise replacing your vacuum filter every 6 months to maintain performance and to prevent those smells.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
According to Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, a professor of medicine at Queen`s University specializing in respirology, smoke exposed to sunlight and its UV rays can create a chemical reaction that results in the creation of benzene and formaldehyde, which smell like burning plastic.
If your Bosch oven smells like burning plastic and it`s not new, then it`s possible that plastic cookware may have melted inside. Plastic cookware or utensils will melt if left in the oven for an extended period of time.
A burning smell coming from the washing machine during or after the spin cycle indicates the possible stuck drain pump in which its pump motor won`t turn. With that, it may generate a burning smell. Warning: When you smell a burning odor from the washing machine, immediately, turn it off to avoid further accidents.
Vacuums cleaners can smell from for various reasons; pet dander, moisture was sucked up… The most common cause is old dirt sitting stagnant in the collection chamber, bags, or filters. Vacuum bags should be changed every four to six weeks or once full.
Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again. Make sure there are no cracks or broken belts impeding the system from running optimally.
As the cleaner head and filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odour. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. We need to advise you to stop using your machine and request that you contact your local customer support team.
Fires can`t start in space itself because there is no oxygen – or indeed anything else – in a vacuum.

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor, not contacting the carpeting?? ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.
The original belt on my upright Kenmore Progressive broke and I replaced it with the spare that was in the vacuum. The vacuum and spare belt are about 10 years old. Then the spare broke after one vacuuming session and there was a burning smell coming from the vacuum. I ordered new belts and replaced it with the new belt. It seems to be working fine with no smell. I checked the belt after I vacuumed the family room and although it was in tact, the belt was very hot. Is that normal? Should t
ANSWER : The belt heats up due to the friction, as well as being in contact with the shaft of a hot motor. It is normal.
Burning Smell Hi, I have a Rainbow E series that when I run the vacuum there is a burning smell. I have cleaned the entire unit and filter but still have the smell? I am afraid that the motor will burn out?
ANSWER : Check the carbon motor brushes, there might be arcing on the armature. New brushes may help if the armature is ok.
I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.
Electrical Burning Smell from Henry HVR200 Vacuum Cleaner
ANSWER : Hi! Highly unlikely that you need a new motor. Highly likely that you need new carbon brushes. The smell is caused by excessive sparking between the worn brushes and the copper commutator segments. Most carbon brushes (and from memory I suspect this includes Henry’s) have a copper wire buried in their last few millimeters, and you really need to change them before that becomes exposed. The longer you run it like this, the more likely you are to damage the commutator, so change them sooner rather than later. When you change the brushes, you can smooth off the commutator with very fine abrasive paper (the objective is to smooth it, not scratch it!), and then blow all the dust away (or **** it away if you have another vac, of course). .Incidentally, you don’t say if you are using a paper bag in your Henry. Some people, because the top-hat filter is so good, try to manage without a bag. This is false economy! You should always use a bag..I hope this helps! Burning Smell coming from the moter
ANSWER : This could be a motor problem. There is always a slight blue arcing that occurs when an electrical motor runs and can be visible through the exhaust vent, but any excessive arcing indicates a problem. If the carbon brushes are sticking, this will cause excessive arcing and can be corrected by an experience service person, but if there is any electrical failure, the motor would have to be replaced. There are no parts available for these motors and the expense of replacing an armature (the likely culprit) would be more than the motor. This could also be as simple as a worn belt, but usually, belts will not produce the smell your describing. When a motor is burning out, it will produce an acrid odor that will linger for a long time.
