As the cleaner head and filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odour. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. We need to advise you to stop using your machine and request that you contact your local customer support team.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
To remove, wash and replace the brush bars:
Use a coin to turn the end cap a quarter counterclockwise until it clicks into the unlocked position. Rotate the end cap to the open position. Gently slide the main brush bar out of the cleaner head.
Overheating due to clogged exhaust filter
The exhaust filter can also get clogged, causing a problem with the motor cooling. Therefore, you should also check the exhaust filter if the vacuum cleaner smells burnt. It is usually located on the top or back of the unit, right where the exhaust air comes out.
If your brush is scratching your floor, or not cleaning as well as it used to, then you may want to replace your brush bar.
Most Dyson vacuum have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
Problems can occur when overused or clogged filters cause the vacuum motor to overheat. This not only shortens the motor life but causes a loss of suction. In some cases, total motor burn out can occur.
Inspecting the Vacuum Commutator for Motor Brush Problems
Test that by turning the motor off and pushing on the center shaft, the armature. If it has any play, besides spinning, then replace the motor. If solid then replace the brushes – motor brush replacement instructions.
Yes, Dyson vacuum cleaner brushes do wear out due to them continuously rubbing against the carpet. Just like a toothbrush, the vacuum cleaner roller bristles can flatten and get too soft. That`s why Dyson vacuum cleaner brushes should be replaced regularly.
Remove the end cap, but don`t wash it. 3. Wash brush bar under water and gently rub to. remove lint or dirt.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.

Now that I just fixed my Lux Legacy canister vacuum, I need help on my other Electrolux Regency Series upright! The vacuum works fine but the rotating brush does not work and the brush motor does not turn on. Tried cleaning the brush and hitting hte reset button to no avail. This upright has a triple setting switch and I checked the each of the wires seem to be attached. Tried rotating the brush by hand and it would not budge. Was going to “encourage” the brush to turn with a set of articula
There are a couple rectangular holes on the bottom of the power nozzle, beside the wheels. These have tabs in them that need released with a standard screwdriver.
.Once they release, turn the vacuum over and lift cover of power nozzle at the back. This pulls the front of the cover out of the lip on the “bumper”.
.Once this is done, you’ll need to unscrew the screw at each end of the brush. Lift the brush out and thoroughly clean it, including the ends.
.Check the wiring to make sure they’re connected to the terminals of the motor. Also, check the belt for wear and tear. These belts can last for five years or more, but if it looks bad a good time to replace it is while you have the power head apart.
.When reassembling the vacuum, ensure the belt is fitted properly around the motor shaft and brush.
.Insert the front of the cover first, ensuring the edge fits neatly beneath the lip on the bumper all the way around. It takes a little manipulating to press the back into place. Make sure both tabs click into the locked position. Turn the vacuum over and reinstall screws. Try to rotate brush by hand a few times.
.At this point, plug the vacuum in and turn it on. If the power head doesn’t run, press the reset button. If the power head motor still doesn’t run, it could be due to loose or disconnected wires that lead to the reset switch, a bad reset switch, or even a bad motor. The vacuum needs to be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for further diagnosis and repair.
Just purchased this Dyson dc24 today. brush doesn’t spin after gettin tangled in a cord. removed the cord from the brush OK.

When you removed the brush roller dod you examine the end of the actual roller that is opposite from the removal opening. There is a gear that the roller fits over that may have gotten stripped when it became tangled. Check that the gear has not rounded off and look inside the roller bar to see if the area where the gear fits into may have gotten stripped as well. You might try to operate the vacuum without the roller brush installed for a few seconds just to see if the gear turns. When I say gear, it is actually a somall “post” about 1-2″ long that the roller brush fits over. Hope this helps!

Its due to the grip of the brush and the motor not getting fit its became little bit like streched so this happens and in this case replacing the brushes and checking any other component broken near to it is necessary.

Roomba Discovery My Roomba turns on and moves but the brushes won’t turn. Someone told me that I had forgotten to put in the yellow and black end bearings, but I did. Help, I miss my Roomba
I have a Roomba 530, I have had it for 2 weeks and really loved it. I have followed all the cleaning instructions etc.. Then the Roomba wanted it’s brushes cleaning “please clean Roombas brushes” So thinking that something was stuck I removed and cleaned the brushes, (yellow tabs on and in place by the way)
I read somewhere that you need to clear the software in case there is a glitch. To do this, take the battery out and then, simultaneously hold down the “spot” and “clean” buttons for 30 seconds. Replace battery. This has worked for my Discovery model.
Hoover steamvac Spinscrub F7222-900 brushes do not engage. Brushes will spin when unit is laid down and the brushes are pushed upward, forcing the male brush linkage into the female receptacle , but when the unit is stood up it disengages. Turning the switch on and off does not make a difference.
That’s the way it’s supposed to work.
