How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

My Henry has been running for a long time and it has stopped working. Henry is fitted with a thermal cut out. If it has been running for an extended period of time, the overload will cut in and stop Henry from working until he has cooled down.
Should the brush not rotate freely there may be debris tangled around the ends of the brush, carefully remove any obstructions or replace the brush with a new one. We recommend that you fit a new belt and brush once per year to keep your Reactive vacuum working efficiently.
Henry hoover can operate without a filter in place though it won`t work as well and you will likely damage the motor in the process. Nonetheless, it will still operate as the motor will still run and you will be provided with some level of suction.
Answer. You can access the microswitch by gently levering off the knob. You must disconnect the wires underneath the tap and then with a pair of long nosed pliers lift the switch out of its housing. Feed the wires on the new switch through the hole and ensure that the switch is pushed firmly in position.
How Vacuum Switches Work. Once the switch registers a change in the negative pressure based on the preset sensitivity of the setpoint, the diaphragm of the switch will open or close the attached circuit, turning off or powering on a device. Vacuum switches can be used with NO and NC states.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.
Henry`s filter is clogged up – Henry vacuum cleaners have a pre motor filter which is washable. It`s a good idea to wash your filter every time you replace the bag. Simply wash it with warm water and replace the filter once it is completely dry.
If the bag gets too full, this will put a strain on the motor, resulting in a loss of suction. It depends on how often you use the vacuum, but it`s recommended that you change the bag every six months.
A two way light switch is a switch that can be used in conjunction with another two way light switch to turn a light (or lights) on and off from more than one location.
A Micro Switch is a small, very sensitive switch which requires minimum compression to activate. They are very common in home appliances and switch panels with small buttons. They are typically inexpensive and have a long life meaning they can function for a long time – sometimes up to ten million cycles.
Vacuum switches can have an electro-mechanical or solid-state switch construction.
There are three main vacuum switch designs: mechanical, pneumatic and electronic.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
– Some vacuums have an in-line thermal fuse (often located between the switch lead and the motor coil). If the fuse is blown it will need to be replaced. – Check your home circuit breaker – it may have tripped. – Some vacuums have a brushroll on/off control.
Henry Vacuum in 2023

Today, all Henry vacuum cleaners come with a standard 620W motor, instead of the more powerful version that was in the older machines.

The Commercial version has a longer power cable at 12.5metres long, whereas a standard Henry only has a 10-metre power cable. A stronger drum design intended for commercial applications.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
Start the engine and spray

Scope out all the vacuum lines under the hood. Then start the engine and spray each connection with a light stream of water. If a connection sucks in the water, you`ve found your leak. A vacuum leak can cause a rough idle, high rpm, poor gas mileage and even trigger a check-engine light.

The most common reason for vacuum motors failing is overheating. Most `dry` vacuums have a flow-though motor. These motors use the air they have sucked up the dust with, to cool themselves. When there is a blockage, flow-though motors are unable to cool themselves due to the lack of airflow.
First, How long should you expect a vacuum cleaner to last? On average, According to Consumer Reports, vacuum cleaners last a median of eight years. But the lifespan varies wildly by not only brand but your own personal use. This should be expected.
The most common problem with a vacuum cleaner is also the easiest to remedy: clogs in the hose or attachments. Also the electrical cord, motor, switch, fan, brushes, and motor bearings can all need repair or replacement.
Henry`s face was invented to help keep cleaning staff company. It is believed that when Chris Duncan developed the Henry vacuum cleaner in 1970– the same man who runs the company today, he did so with the intention to prevent late night and early morning cleaning workers from feeling lonely.

Hetty hoover not working. It was working ok until I opened it up to search the bag for a missing jigsaw piece and I put it all back and I hoovered the mess on the floor, then switched off and switched on and hoover would not work? Is there a cut off button on Hetty hoovers?
ANSWER : Know cut off switch, its just not getting power ? 2 things its ether at the wall plug or in side the unit. I have never found a fuse in side them , so it may be just a lose wire did you try other plugs in the house . good luck DFD

Hoover Windtunnel On/Off switch will not turn Off…Switch seems to work O.K. when pressed directly but not with handle switch…It will turn on but not off..Cam seems to be intact on switch actuator..How does switch come out? Thanx
ANSWER : Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.

We have a dyson dc 07 animal the machine was working fine then switched off after returning to the machine minutes later it wouldnt switch on, i removed on off switch cover and used a short piece of wire across the brown wires flicked the wall switch and it worked, aha i thought faulty switch aquired a new one to no avail and now even the short piece of wire trick doesnt work, has the motor died do you think, it wasnt over heating or making strange noises prior to refusing to work
ANSWER : It could be the motor. I’m having to replace the brushes on my DC 05. It appears that you can only get brushes for the YDK motors in the DYSON, not the Panasonic motor. Which might be saying something about the YDK motors. What happens is that the carbon brushes wear down which is normal. However, the contact wire from the brush to its connector is set so that when the brush wears down, the wire is short enough to stop the spring etc from damaging the commutator. The end result is that you get an intermittent operation of the motor before it finally dies.
.I believe all the DYSONs come with the option of both motors and you cannot really tell which motor you have until you take the thing to bits. You also cannot change motors without changing various other parts on the hoover. On my DC 05 the writing on the YDK motor tells you which one it is.
.This website www. tasweb.org ,select the DC 05 option and scroll down tells you how to take the thing to bits. A search on google etc for your DC 07 may give similar results. Best of luck!

Henry Hoover throwing trip switch in house
ANSWER : Sounds more likely to be the switch than the motor, especially if it is the model with the top switch rather than the side “rocker” switch. If you are in the UK, speak to the technical people at www.a1cleaningsupplies.co.uk they can post a replacement. Otherwise outside or even within the UK you can contact the manufacturers technical people. Website is www.numatic.com

My vax power 8, 2200 watts 300 air watts 4L capacity upright Hoover is brand new, I emptied out the dust/dirt collecter and cleaned the motor filter yesterday for the first time, i switched it on and all fine, the brush is spinning and the hose is sucking, put the Hoover to work it’s fine for about 30 seconds then then suction stops and its dead it won’t collect no more, so switched off taken apart again and the motor filter is blocked and full of dust, so I unblocked it, do the same process aga
ANSWER : I had the same problem. It looks like the seal on the lid on the bottom of the cylinder has fallen out when it was emptied. There is no longer a proper vacuum being created so you don’t get the cyclone effect and the dirt doesn’t collect where its supposed to. it just clogs up the filter. I put sellotape to seal the lid and it works fine.

The switch on our Hoover Windtunnel vacuum cleaner is not working. I have located the replacement part on your website…part#Ho-28161067, I’ve removed the wires from the switch. Is there any trick to actually removing and replacing the switch itself? It seems to be in there rather tight.
ANSWER : No, follow the directions to replacing the switch and you should be good. if you got the kit then splice the wires and replace them with the wires profied and the wire nuts, you should be good.
