Most cases of a jammed or stuck brush bar are quick and easy to fix, simply pulling the debris gently from the brush bar. Alternatively, if you need to clear a problematic blockage, you can take the brush bar out of the housing easily, for quick maintenance.
Dyson isn`t designed to ruin your carpet, and I don`t see how it would be able to do so. It does have motorized brushes that rotate in order to pick up dust and dirt from your carpet, so perhaps it`s not the best solution for high pile carpets, or carpets with fringes, because they might get stuck in the brushes.
The cleaner head housing is not washable and should only be wiped over with a damp lint-free cloth. To maintain optimum performance, check and wash your brush bar regularly. Make sure your machine is disconnected from the charger and take care not to touch the trigger.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Carpet Powder Can Ruin Your Vacuum Cleaner
As you vacuum up the deodorizer you`ve sprinkled on your carpet, you may not see some of the negative effects right away. Tiny particles may get kicked up and float to other parts of your room.
Carpet cleaning foams can damage your vacuum cleaner.
Once the foam dries, they become little powder particles that can block the filters of your vacuum almost immediately and cause the motor to overheat.
The DC33 uses a single motor for the suction and to drive the brushroll via a mechanical clutch as on the DC04, DC07 and DC14. This unit has been discontinued as of July 2013. No replacement model has been announced.
Although the pre-motor filter is washable, if it`s particularly dirty or damaged you should replace it with a new one. Dyson recommends that you wash the filter at least every three months.
`We do not recommend that owners expose their machines to water`. Dyson is urging customers not to clean their vacuum cleaners by leaving them in water, after a hack went viral online.
Just buy it. If you have hard surfaces, this attachment is a game changer and well worth the month, even if it`s a little ouchy to have to spend even more money on your Dyson. Clean hard floors better, faster. Struggles with large debris.
Most problems arise because of a blockage – if not a dirty filter or cyclone unit, then something could be caught in the wand or the brush bar. Once again, the lack of suction could be caused by a dirty filter or a blockage somewhere in the vacuum`s system.
Give it a break
By letting the battery run down to empty at least once a month, you`ll help to prolong its life.
Check the Rotator Brush and Wheels
Sometimes pieces of string or other objects get wrapped around your vacuum`s rotating brush or around the wheels of the vacuum. Unplug your vacuum. Turn it over and have a look at the wheels and brush. If you see any pieces of string or objects lodged there, remove them.
For a vacuum cleaner to glide easily on a carpet, air must flow into the nozzle and through the machine. Block the air flow and the vacuum seals itself to the carpet and is hard to push. And, unfortunately, that`s what many consumers have discovered when their new carpeting is installed.
Why should you avoid using Powdered Carpet Deodorizers? The carpet powder deodorizer instructions say, “sprinkle on carpet and simply vacuum it up!” However, sprinkle deodorizers can not only set stains, they can also cause wicking, crocking, and even potentially ruin your carpet or rugs.
If you don`t vacuum your carpet, the dirt will break down carpet fibers and create a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria. In addition, your home will begin to smell musty from the dirt, mites, and other organisms settling into the fibers.
Vacuuming every day, or even a few times a day, is not going to create any long term problems. `But,` you might be thinking, `doesn`t the brushes spinning over the carpet on a beater bar wear it out? ` Sure, but a very small amount.
Tip #4: Before using your vacuum, add a tablespoon of baking soda to the bag. If you have a bagless vacuum, sprinkle several tablespoons of baking soda directly onto the floor and vacuum it up. We use baking soda to absorb and eliminate odors in our refrigerators, so why not use it on our carpets and vacuums?

Wool absorbs humidity; as such, it is not preferable for damp areas. Another drawback to this material is the potential for color fading and even some shedding of the wool itself, though that particular aspect may lessen over time.
PLAIN SUCTION HEAD vacuums are recommended
Choosing a vacuum with strong suction is also important, it is safe for your wool carpet and it pulls up soil and dirt that may be stuck in and around the carpet fibres. Strong suction ensures your carpet stays clean and well maintained.
If your machine is making a whistling noise, this indicates that there is a blockage or a damaged or missing seal. Remove the floor tool from the extension tube. Check for blockages and remove as necessary.

We have a Bissell Proheat Cleanshot 2X Model 9500 Steam carpet cleaner. The first time we used it things were great. The second time we used it it left tracks in the carpet. We have no idea what caused this. We tried using the machine on an entirely different carpet and it did the same thing. After vacuuming the carpet about 10 or 12 times, the tracks are still embedded in the carpet – HELP!!!! We’re read and reread the manual and contacted customer service and received no help.
ANSWER : First things first. It’s only the second time you have used the machine, so it must be fairly new. If you have a receipt and the unit is less than a year old you should take it to an authorized Bissell repair center and have the machine inspected under warranty.

My carpet cleaner (bissell proheat plus) is not steaming, dispensing cleaner. Seems like there’s a little thingy that should be spinning or turning….. When I work a small area of carpet, it just leaves behind dry blobs of carpet gunk like pet hair. I had to use a carpet sweeper to clean up. FYI – I filled the cleaning fluid container and after trying to clean the carpet, it did empty out but the carpet isn’t wet. Any tips? The manual doesn’t help.

ANSWER : What is the exact model number of that unit. There are several with that name. The only things that it could be are the handle mechanism that activates the brushes or the indicator is not working nad the level that selects the brushes is not working. The unit has no belts.
Carpet stained recently cleaned my cream coloured carpet in my entrance hall with a carpet cleaning product, wet foamy spray type, ran out of this and found a part bottle of a different brand in my cupboard, used this to finish off however must be some sort of reaction and carpet gone a greenish colour i think (colour blind sorry ) any idea’s of any product that might restore my carpet, will try anything, nothing to loose. thank you Peter McGurk Goole East Yorks
ANSWER : Ok in the future try to have carpet cleaned only by a pro. For spot cleaning use white paper towels or dish towels and warm water. (ONLY WHITE) 99% of fabric is white and then dyed to color and if you use a color cloth you might pull the dye from the cloth into the carpet. Now what you can try is your basic dishwashing detergent like electrosal with warm water and a dishtowel. little at a time try to blot not rub. try AFTA if that doesnt work. wet the rag first with warm water. pour the afta on the wet rag not on the carpet.
My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

There is a rubber valve on the top of Dyson DC14 all floors. When the vacum is locked in its upright position or the hand wand is used there is a whistling sound coming out of the valve. When the vac is used as a floor vac, it does not make the sound. Is this something that I can fix? Is there an obstruction somewhere that would be causing this sound? thank you.
ANSWER : The Fixya user in this repair is giving out personal contact information rather then helping the customer out on the Fixya board. This defeats the whole purpose of Fixya if the “TheDysonTeam” just gives out his phone number and helps the customer over the phone where the repair advice he gives can not be seen by anyone else on fixya. I was also under the impression that giving personal contact information on repairs is strictly prohibited.
Kenmore canister vacuum model 116-25512506. It has a 2 stage switch on the handle, the vacuum motor will not work, the carpet beater attachment does work, the vacuum motor will not cut on at all with either stage, 1st stage is vac only, 2nd is vac a carpet attachment. Carpet attachment will work, vac does not.
ANSWER : Try to find the reset button. It should be somwhere near the bottom area. It looks like a red dot that you can push inward. If you can press and hold the reset button, it will restart your suction and solve your problem.
Power nozzle not working on my vac but does on another vac
ANSWER : If pushing the reset button doesn’t help try having your local Aerus dealer check out the 2 prongs in the power head where it all connects. Sometimes they go bad.
