How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Check to see if there is water in the water tank. If there isn`t, unscrew the water tank cap and use the filling flask to pour distilled water into the tank until it reaches the fill line. Replace the water tank cap and tighten. Power the device on, wait about 30 seconds for the water to heat up, and then try again.
After use, unplug your steam mop and let it cool before removing the Dirt Grip pads. Empty the water tank before storing. Wait until it has fully cooled and all the steam has been released. Machine wash your Dirt Grip pads separately, with warm water, using liquid detergent.
If the lock is stuck and the cap turns freely even when there is no pressure you will need to break off the cap from the valve. Either using a flat blade screwdriver, carefully prise the cap away from the base – or carefully strike the cap a `glancing blow` to fracture its base and lift off the cap.
Heating Element. A common cause to your cleaner not producing steam can be a failed heating element. As the heater is used to heat up the water, if that has ruptured or burnt out your steam cleaner will not produce any steam. With the water tank filled and switched on the steamer should sound like a boiling kettle.
Check if the mop is properly plugged into the outlet and turned on. If it is on and still not functioning, try resetting the mop by plugging it into a different outlet. Add water to the tank if it is empty then try selecting the `STEAM` setting once more.
Check for a clogged hose or filter; unclog the hose and replace the filter. Wait 45 minutes for the vacuum to cool; then plug in the vacuum. Turn the power switch to the “I-On” position to start the vacuum. If the vacuum still does not start, contact Customer Service at 1-800-798-7398.
And thankfully, it`s a simple process. You can machine wash most mop pads, but they`re also easy to hand wash. Simply soak them in a mixture of laundry detergent, baking soda, and hot water, then scrub them clean and rinse. Don`t clean your floors with a dirty mop head!
Soap only lifts dirt and oil into water, making them suspend in water. Therefore, the more soap you use, the more your mop gets saturated with dirt. So, if you do not remove all the soapy water from the floor, the dirt remains, forming streaks on the floor.
A: Hey A. McStyle, As a precaution and to extend the life of your steam mop, we do recommend using distilled water in all of our steam products, especially for folks with naturally hard water, but if you have soft water at home, that should be fine as well.
check the cap of the water tank to make sure it is correctly and securely attached to the water tank. check your water tank to make sure it is securely and correctly fitted in to the body of the garment steamer – incorrect placement of the water tank can block water from feeding in to the body and boiler of the steamer.
Tap the mop firmly on the floor a few times to get it steaming again. My mop is still not steaming. Try running a bit of vinegar through your mop. There may be a mineral build-up from your tap water.

I have a Dyson Animal upright (purple). I took it apart to clean the cyclone chambers. When re-assembling the bottom closed before the opening rod was inserted. I can’t get the opening rod installed with the bottom opening closed. How do I open it? Thanks.
ANSWER : I looked in our DC07. I would try removing the top again and getting a long dowel or the opening rod, insert it down into the unit and PUSH. The opening rod opens the latch by pushing it, not pulling it. Here are some pictures of the latch. Top pic is in the unlock position. Bottom is the normal position.
I hope this helps.

I can’t get the vacuum to **** and can’t get to the point of the clog. The pieces don’t come off. Also need to know how to get the filter piece off the machine.
I have a window fan with two fans in it & I cannot get the cover or back off so I can clean it. I* have taken all the screws out that I can get to , but there are two clamps that I can’t get off, I’m not sure why the clamps are there but they are on the side with the accordian extention. Please tell me how to get it apart – after 2 years it is really filthy!!
Thank you,
Janet
ANSWER : Remove all the screws, pry clips off that hold on the extensions, than fan will pull apart. The clips must be pried off. They will not break. Then remove screws holding in the fans and remove them as well. Fairly simple process.
How do I open my Kenmore Whispertone 12.0 to get to the cord reel
ANSWER : The motor / cord compartment cover must be removed to access the cord reel. There are four screws that hold the cover to the chassis. Two of the screws are found under the cord-retractor-foot-pedal on the top back of the canister. To access these screws the pedal must be removed. To do this, press the pedal down and look (from the top) for the four plastic clips that attach/hold the pedal hinges to the cover. There are two at the end corners and two in the middle. Using a long, thin flat-head screw driver (or similar instrument) press each clip to unhook/popout the hinges. Note: the foot pedal spring will also come out when the pedal is removed.
The other two screws are found under the curved hinges of the vaccum bag compartment cover. To access these, lift the cover as if accessing the vacuum bag. Keep pulling the cover back until the hinges release from the motor cover. Don’t worry, it is disigned to do this and will not break but it may require a little force. A long phillip-head screw driver will be needed to access and remove each screw. Good luck. – Gary
I am getting very little suction from the motor. The hose is clear, the bag new. When I open the bag cover, plug the hose in and turn the vacuum on, there is next to no suction from the motor. What do you think is wrong? How do I remove the cord retractor to get to the two screws that hold the back of the canopy cover?
ANSWER : Your problem is probably is you don’t have a proper seal in your chasis. A vacuum has to be sealed tight or the air will leak out and the seal broken. Check around the whole body after the bag is in and check for any airflow noise. I could help more if I knew the make and model. Chris
Suction problem I have a Hoover Widepath Fold Away, 12 amp motor vacuum cleaner and the problem I am having is every time I vacuum, the vacuum gets clogged up with carpet. I am probably only able to do one stroke then it gets clogged and I have to stop and unclog it or it spits it out on the carpet. This is very frustrating and I don’t get much vacuuming done. Please can you help me. Thank you. Gwen email is
[email protected]ANSWER : Get rid of the carpet its shredding and falling apart.no sence in vacuuming old rotten carpet.or try using a vacuum without a brush roller and just suction
I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.
