but was sold the FC 8033 filter. My machine seems to be overheating and I wonder if it has anything to do with the new filter.

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

It is the filter`s job to trap dirt and other particles from being expelled back into the air. Even so, filters are probably one of the most ignored aspects of a vacuum cleaner, especially when it comes to their maintenance and care.
Cleaning the filter in bagless vacuum cleaners

This filter consists of two different parts: A) a plated part (called HEPA/EPA or allergy filter) and B) a foam part: A) The pleated part (EPA/HEPA or allergy filter) cannot be washed. You can clean it by tapping it over a bin or brushing it. B)

Take the filter outside if possible to avoid stirring up dust inside your home. Use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove debris from the filter. Run the brush across the filter to gently loosen stuck-on buildup.
When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.
If the filter isn`t clean, it can impact the performance of the vacuum. Dirty vacuum filters can restrict airflow so the suction won`t be as strong.
Your Philips Air Purifier`s pre-filter (C in the image shown above) is washable and should be cleaned every month to ensure its optimal functioning. You should clean the pre-filter when F0 is displayed on your air purifier`s display.
Categories: Vacuum Cleaners. What is a HEPA filter and why is it so important? HEPA filter stands for high efficiency particulate air filter, which removes over 99.9% of airborne particles. This includes dust, dust mites, mould, pollen, bacteria and it can even remove COVID particles from the air.
Look for the serial number and test results printed on true or absolute HEPA filters. Make sure that the test results at 0.3 microns are 99.97 percent or above. The size of 0.3 microns is the testing standard, because most filters will perform better with both smaller and larger particles.
HEPA filters are not designed to be washed and reused. Doing so will cause damage to the fibers which makes the filter ineffective and it will become void of its job. Once a filter has reached the maximum capacity of harmful particles, it will need to be replaced with a fresh, new one.
Washing makes a standard HEPA filter unusable, so don`t wash a filter unless the manufacturer recommends it! Some filter types are washable. For example the activated carbon filter and prefilter in our Winix can both be rinsed with water to remove dust and chemicals, and reinstalled once completely dry.
Rinse the filter

Any fine dust remaining in the filter can usually be removed with a gentle rinse under a cold tap – hold the filter under the running water until the water runs clear. You shouldn`t need to use any detergent – just water.

When something in your home looks dirty, your natural instinct is probably to clean that item ASAP. But when it comes to air filters, soap and water don`t always do the trick. HEPA filters, commonly found in portable air purifiers, are one item that experts recommend replacing rather than trying to clean.
You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely. Liquids will damage filters, and you could even potentially ruin your vacuum if you suck up water before removing the filter.
Most vacuum makers recommend cleaning or replacing filters at set intervals—and those intervals vary wildly. Tineco, for example, recommends cleaning the filters on its stick vacuums after every few uses, while Miele says you need to change its vacuum filters only after every fourth bag change.
If you have dirty filters, you`ll notice a stale odor immediately when you turn on the vacuum and reduced suction as you work. For high traffic areas, the filter may need to be cleaned monthly. For most homes, vacuum filters should be cleaned at least every three months.
Usually, you should replace the filter every three months.
Factors that Impact Air Filter Replacement

If you have electrostatic or washable filters, they should be washed, dried, and re-installed once a month. The washable filters are more eco-friendly and, if cleaned and reused appropriately, can last 5 to 10 years.

Generally, you can clean your replaceable HEPA filters about once a month and replace them every four to six months.
Yes, you should run your air purifier 24/7 and you shouldn`t turn it off anytime. In fact it`s recommended to not switch off your air purifier at any time of the day or night, even when you`re sleeping or not at home.
In short, HEPA filters are capable of removing dust and other allergens, such as mold, while carbon filters are capable of filtering out smoke, fumes and other chemicals. Both, however, are necessary for improved air quality across many different industries.
A: The main difference between a HEPA filter is that it is made of thin fibers of glass and activated carbon-based materials. Regular filters are made of porous materials like cotton paper sheets and polyester. Q: How does a HEPA filter work? A: HEPA filters work by forcing air through a fine mesh.
A HEPA vacuum can help remove lead dust, but lead dust particles can be too small for even a HEPA filter, and their density means filters have a harder time trapping them than other particles of similar size. That is why using a HEPA vacuum is only part of the proper lead dust remediation procedure in your home.
Warm water is always best for air filters, but you can use dish soap on filters that are particularly dirty. Just be sure to rinse off all of the soap residue since it can restrict airflow.
Tip: If your air purifier has a carbon filter inside, remove odors by placing it in the sunlight for about two to three hours. Avoid getting carbon filters wet or attempting to clean them with a vacuum or compressed air.

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)

The original belt on my upright Kenmore Progressive broke and I replaced it with the spare that was in the vacuum. The vacuum and spare belt are about 10 years old. Then the spare broke after one vacuuming session and there was a burning smell coming from the vacuum. I ordered new belts and replaced it with the new belt. It seems to be working fine with no smell. I checked the belt after I vacuumed the family room and although it was in tact, the belt was very hot. Is that normal? Should t

.Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #. .Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The best way to clean the HEPA filter is to take it outside and use a blower over the trash can and blow off the dust and dirt, or use things like an old paint brush and brush it off, or you can vacuum it off with another canister vacuum or shop vac if you have an extra one. For the best filtration is to replace it, there fore the air flow will catch most of the dust and dirt and then you would have to watch how fast it gets dirty and then do the maintenance.

No vacuum My Floormate has plenty of air moving, but no vacuum at the nozzle. When I turn it on, the filter hops up to the black rubber “intake”, rather than staying in its spot. It seems to me that the intake should be in contact with the filter when the reservoir is installed. And I don’t understand why the intake isn’t closer to it, but it seems fixed there, almost an inch higher than the filter. When I remove the bottom reservoir and turn the h3000 on, I feel vacuum at the intake, and air
ANSWER : Someone must have lost the filter cover from the machine. It is a clear blue plastic cover that goes over the filter and has a hole that lines up with the motor intake. It is approx. 3 inches square and has an angular top to coincide with the motor intake. Look around the house for it or order a new cover.

Hello, I have a problem with my Eureka Powerline bagged upright vacuum. It has a 12 amp motor and is model #4352, Type D. It was probably bought new in 1998. My problem is, while vacuuming today the motor seemed to slow down all of the sudden and then began smelling like burning rubber. I shut the vacuum off to check for blockages but could not find anything blocked. When I then turned it on again it runs but seems to only be running at 1/2 the motor speed and still has the rubber buring smell.
ANSWER : It sounds like a rubber sealing in the motor has come loose and is being constantly rubbed against the walls of the motor with would cause the smell and loss of motor speed caused by the fricton of rubber against the rod so if you can get to the motor try to open it and see if you can get it if not take it to a small engine repair service hope this was helpful:)

Kirby Vacuum Hi Bruce, In my opinion, yes the Kirby would be worth it, as long as you are not replacing the motor. The switch would be the most expensive part besides the motor that would need to be replaced. The switch costs USD 49.99, the cord is roughly $39.99, and the carbon brushes are $29.99. I can easily walk you through any of these repairs should you need help. Kirby’s are great vacuum cleaners, that usually last 30+ years. Brand new these machines sell in the US for $1600 or more,
