Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Rinse the canister in cold water. Note: I use Basic H and a wet microfiber cloth to wash mine out for deep cleaning. Dyson says not to use any kind of detergent on the canister, but I haven`t found any problems with doing this.
To add any Dyson attachment to your hose, simply slide the opening over the end of the wand. Rotate the attachment as needed to adhere it to the end of the wand. You will not hear a click or anything since the attachment relies on the tension between the 2 openings to stay in place.
Wipe the inside of the canister with a dry microfiber cloth. Wash the canister in the sink with warm soapy water. Rinse away all soap suds. Let the canister dry completely before replacing it.
Can you wash the cyclone part of a Dyson? The cyclone part of your Dyson vacuum is the special filter that filters out finer dust particles using centrifugal force. Technically, you can wash it.
Unplug the vacuum and use the Dyson Ball Animal Hose Replacement Guide to remove the vacuum`s hose and check for clogs at the base of the hose. Next, check the hose itself. Feel along-side the hose to check for a blockage. If a blockage is present, use a tool to pull out the blockage.
Adds up to 24in of flexible reach to any tool attachment, to clean up high or down low in your home or car. Engineered to fit Dyson Gen5detect™, Gen5outsize™, V15™, V12™, V11™, V10™, V8™, and V7™ vacuums.
This is unlikely to ruin a vacuum cleaner completely; however, it can still create a mess within your bag or vacuum chamber. You`ll probably need to let it dry out before using the vacuum.
Most pleated filters have a replacement schedule and are considered disposable by manufacturers. Paper filters should never be soaked or rinsed in water. However, some filters are made from a non-woven synthetic material (similar to a dryer sheet) that can be rinsed with water a few times to remove dust.
Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

A few reasons why your Dyson is pulsing are potential blockages or problems with the bin or filter.
`The only component that can be washed is the filter, which should be washed every three months to maintain the machine. `If the machine is dropped into water, please do not use and contact the Dyson Helpline, and if any owner has any concerns about their products, further information can be found online.
No, water and liquid should not sucked up by the vacumn. It will void the warranty.
Step 4: Let Your Dyson Filter Dry

Before you can place your filter(s) back into your vacuum, you need to let them dry. You can do this by leaving them in a warm area for 24 hours until they are completely dried out. Do not put them in the dryer or near an open flame.

I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.

Dyson absolute dc17 = can I hose out the top of the canaster with water to clean it?
ANSWER : Which part of the canister, the clear part. if you are talking about the clear part, yes. You can take that off and clean that with water. The cyclones cannot be cleaned without being dissasembled

No Water My Bissell rug shampooer does not eject water or saop whan I pull the saop trigger on the handle. I checked both filters and they are clean. Then, I removed the container that sucks up the water and pulled the saop trigger, water barely came out of the tubes. I tried to clean the rug in our family room and the rug was not wet when I finished, no water coming out to clean the rug. HELP HELP HELP!!! I live in Colorado is there a Bissell repair shop near Denver, HELP!!! Thanks Dominick ema
ANSWER : Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn’t squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can’t spray, just re-fasten it down.

ANSWER : There are 2 filters, make sure they are clean, one is on the tank lid, the other is from the bottom, it is red, pull it out and clean it. I’m trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?
ANSWER : Hi,

DC17 is much better than DC14. I always believe User’s review are much better than what Features Company usually Displays.

I have a Sunbeam Model Number 4065-000 and there is white particles comming out of the holes in the bottom. I think it is because we used tap water and there is a lot of deposits in the water. I read on the box that it was ok to use tap water and not distilled water. Is ther any way to clean the inside out to get the deposits cleaned out without affecting the possibility of doing something to the cloths that I will iron after cleaning the iron?
ANSWER : If the deposits are recent and still fairly soft, running a tank of vinegar through the machine should remove the deposits (obviously not using on any clothes, hold it over a sink). if the deposits are more stubborn, you can use a cleaning agent like CLR. rinse the tank out thoroughly after and run through a tank of clean water. good luck!
