Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 My dyson is in the shop for the 3rd time this week… I loved the thing when I first got it (Feb 2007), but now I’m beginning to hate it! It started making this horrible loud vibrating noise, which I thought had something to do with the barefloor/carpet setting knob. Called Dyson, and they helped me out the best they could (I was completely impressed with the service representative!) Initially, I was told the suction is soooo strong that it is setting it off. Then, there was possibly a problem with the brush bar. After some finagling, it seemed quiet, but then the same noise started later that some vacuum session. Anyway, my the problem wasn’t corrected over the phone, so I took it in to a Dyson service center and the guy told me he already knew the problem. He replaced the clutch (common in this model, I guess?), which I guess engages when you suck up something like a sock, in order to stop the brish bar from spinning. (Funny, I never sucked anything out of the norm up with it!) Anyway, excited to vacuum, I start it up at home and the darn thing is still making the horrendous noise. It’s back in the shop again. I don’t think it’s fixable, and I’m upset that I spent this amount of money on a lemon. Maybe they’ll replace it?.We have a DC17 with the same problem. The phone service said it was because of pet hair built up under the belt where it engages with the brush bar. We cleaned that out and …no change. The vacuume does a good job, but its so noisy we can’t stand to use it.\015

Instead, Dyson says Auto/Med mode is best for general cleaning. At around 73 decibels, this is considered to be around the standard for a vacuum cleaner.
A clogged filter in a Dyson vacuum can create a muffled sucking sound or a high-pitched squealing during use. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. Remove the filter by twisting the purple dial labeled “filter” located at the top of the vacuum.
Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.

Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum – terrible loud noise
ANSWER : I have purchased six Dyson DC14 vacuums on eBay at rediculously low prices as they were being sold “as is” because they made a “terrible noise” when the brush bar was engaged. Each of the vacuums I received were like new, literally, and did make the terrible noise that was described. For less than $25 each, I purchased replacement beater bars (brushrolls) from an eBay seller in England and ALL six of the vacuums work perfectly.
.
.When I dismanteld each of the units, some beater bars only had hairline cracks and and others were falling apart. I first purchased beater bars from eBay that were very cheaply made and broke within one or two weeks. The beater bars I got from England have been going strong in a commercial business for over a year now. That’s equivalent to 5 years use in a residence.
.
.Defective beater bars are more frequent than most people realize. I’d lay odds that is your problem but you will never know until the beater bar is removed and closely inspected. Some fractures of the plastic can be hard to see.
.
.Hope this helps.

ANSWER : If the filter bag is bad and didn’t trap all of the dust, then it got into your motor, so you may have a problem with your motor now.

Terrible noise My dyson was working great then started making this horrible noise. I cleaned the bar but noise is still there. I discovered the beater bar went around three passes then froze and started horrible noise again. my husband got the bar turning but after 2 swipes vacuuming it did it again. Can it be fixed or is it time to retire it and buy a new one. Wendy Kiser
ANSWER : That noise is the clutch. A very expensive part and very hard to replace. When a problem with the clutch happens it’s generally not worth the time and money to replace.

I suggest getting a different type of vacuum, maybe a Miele or Sebo. With the money spent on one of those vacuums, you wont have problems like you would with a Dyson. And the cleaning power is so much more powerful than what any Dyson can offer.

Dyson noise. My Dyson Animal vacuum is making a very loud noise like screaming
ANSWER : Check all ports for a clog, there are removable covers you can take off, also check the hose for a clog. Make sure all filters are clean. Worse case is a problem with the motor.

Loud noise?? my vacuum suddenly just got really loud. it suctions fine, i changed the belt, but when the roller is off its not loud, but when i put it back on the 11noise is horrific. it vacuums fine i just cannot stand the noise. please help
ANSWER : I have the exact same problem. I’ve taken the thing apart and cannot figure out what is causing the noise. It’s not the belt and it doesn’t seem to be coming from the engine. It sounds like the spinning brush is hitting something, but it’s not, that I can see.

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.
