Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 I have had my machine for almost 2 month. This vacuum just doesn’t pick up much at all. I ordered it from HSN and they don’t do returns after 30 days. The brush is spinning, but it won’t even pick up ‘lint’ type objects from the floor! No matter how many times I go back and forth…nope. I’ve checked for clogs. There are none. I haven’t even finished paying for the thing (5 ‘easy’ payments) and I’ve gotten out my old Hoover Windtunnel again. The Dyson is useless.I don’t have animals, btw.\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
If the machine will no longer efficiently pick items up, the filter might be dirty. If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out.
A clog is a common (perhaps the most common) reason that a Dyson unit loses suction. They have a number of choke points in the airflow paths. Some considerations follow: Hoses: because of their often rough inner surfaces and inevitable bends, hoses are prime locations for clogs.
If your Dyson Ball Animal vacuum no longer sucks up dirt, dust, and debris when using the nozzle and its attachments, there may be a clog in the vacuum`s nozzle. Unplug the vacuum and use the Dyson Ball Animal Hose Replacement Guide to remove the vacuum`s hose and check for clogs at the base of the hose.
Which Dyson vacuum is the most powerful? In terms of sheer suction power, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra is the most powerful option in Dyson`s current lineup, offering 290 AW, or air watts, of suction power. Among the brand`s cordless stick vacuums, the Dyson V15 Detect is the most powerful, with a rating of 230 AW.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.
If your vacuum is leaving dirt behind, or even spitting dirt back out while cleaning, it`s usually due to a blockage. It sounds like you`re experiencing this from the base of your machine, so we would suggest having a look at this video here, on removing blockage from the cleanerhead.
Loose connections will cause your vacuum cleaner to lose suction. Make sure that the dust container, the hose, the tube and the brush are all attached properly. If the problem continues, your vacuum cleaner might have a technical problem. If you suspect this to be the case, contact an authorised service agent.
The suction control slider is located at the front of the cleaner head. The ball located between the bin and the cleaner head.
Hot environments speed up battery aging. So it`s best to avoid cleaning the car in hot weather or leaving your vacuum in rooms that experience direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The same goes for cold porches and garages in winter.
Next, you need to consider suction power. Typically expressed in Pa (pascals), this is a measurement of how powerful the motor is inside a robot vacuum. A good number to look for here is around 2,000Pa or above for an effective clean.
The two main indicators to determine vacuum power performance are water lift and airflow. The water lift is measured in mmH2O, mbar or kPa. It represents the suction force and is the reference parameter for vacuuming liquids and heavy materials. The airflow is measured in m3/h or in l/s.

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

Dyson DC14 doesn’t pick up much of anything.
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.
I am surprised to hear you are having difficulties with your Dyson.
If you have already completed the full blockage procedure and washed the pre filter, it may be worthing checking the internal hose on the base of the machine.
Lie the machine on its side and you should see a small corrigated pipe. Twist this a quarter turn clockwise and then try the machine again. You may find that this hose twisted pulling the cleaner head up very slightly preventing it from contacting with your surfaces correctly.
If this still does not solve the issue, your machine is still covered by warranty so call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON so we can help you further.
Kind regards

My filter queen just had the motor rebuilt last year and was basically a brand new unit when I got it back. It is not picking anything up now when I vacuum. The beater bar on the carpet attachment is turning fine and when I take all the attachments off the hose I can feel the suction being created like it should be picking up debris just fine. I have emptied the canister even when it did not have much in it; however, it still will not pick anything up off the carpet. It picks up debris tempo
ANSWER : It sounds as if you have a clog inside the “Power Nozzel”. They mention that there are “no user serviceable parts within the Majestic® Power Nozzle” My advice would be to see if you can see a clog with in reachable distance and try to remove the clog. One way to check for a clog which may work for you is to remove the attachment and shine a flashlight on one of of the attachment and look through the other side and see if you see light, if no light, most likely a clog. Past that you might void the warrenty if you try and open it up the Power Nozzel itself. You may want to ask a Phone service rep about clog removal.
My hoover windtunnel is not picking anything up all of a sudden. Also the roller underneith is not spinning. I’ve replaced filters and the attachment part is working fine, just when it’s in the upright position it won’t pick anything up. It also doesn’t seem to be self propelled anylonger either. It use to **** everything up, including the dog. Please help!
ANSWER : The belt that drives the brush roll has broken. That’s why it doesn’t pick up and why it doesn’t pull itself forwards. Check the User Manual (download from Hoover website if necessary) for information on replacing the belt. Good luck!
I’m trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?
ANSWER : Hi,
DC17 is much better than DC14. I always believe User’s review are much better than what Features Company usually Displays.

Poor Suction Heya! So I just picked up a used Dyson, but when I vacuum with it, the suction is pretty weak and it spits all kinds of stuff out the back and into my feet. When I pull the hose I have good suction, but in regular mode it hardly picks up anything. The brushes are spinning, and it eventually will clean an area if I go over it again and again. Maybe a clog somewhere? Please tell me that Dysons have better suction than my $50 Dirt Devil! Thanks!
ANSWER : I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad.
.
.I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.
.
.If I was going to attempt the same procedure I’d remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.
I have a Eureka Altima vacuum cleaner that doesn’t pick up very well. The suction seems fine but the brush roller doesn’t seem to pick up from the top of the carpet. When you lower the height of the vacuum the belt rubs and smells horribly. How can I get the vacuum to pick up better?
ANSWER : That means that you need to replace the belt. Here is the belt you need to replace and the manual which has instructions:

Vacuum doesn’t vaccum!
ANSWER : Sounds like there is a clog near where the hose conects to the lower brush part.. Try to look up in there.. Under the brush there should be an opening that goes into the hose.. There might be a clog there..
