Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 My machine is not picking up as well as it used to. There are no blockages anywhere, I have washed the filter and the cyclone. It picks up, but not nearly as well as it used to–I now have to go over an area several times to get it to pick up dirt that formerly needed ony one or two passes. When the machine is on and I remove the canister, the suction from the hose that goes into the canister has plenty of suction. Also, when I run the machine over carpet, it is doing the bouncy-thing when I pull it back in certain areas, which it never used to do before. I have tried everything suggested on this website and nothing is working. The Dyson site has been no help at all–it is slow and keeps timing out. Please help–I am ready to junk this machine and get something else!\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If your Dyson Ball Animal vacuum no longer sucks up dirt, dust, and debris when using the nozzle and its attachments, there may be a clog in the vacuum`s nozzle. Unplug the vacuum and use the Dyson Ball Animal Hose Replacement Guide to remove the vacuum`s hose and check for clogs at the base of the hose.
If you are still having problems with the suction on your Dyson vacuum after cleaning the filters then make sure the bin is empty remove your filters and quickly test the suction from the handle it should take no more than 5 seconds of running to do this. Removing the filters rules out any problems with the filters.
Your vacuum`s roller is clogged

If you are using the appropriate Dyson vacuum to clean your dog`s hair, but it is not still picking up the dirt, you need to check its roller. Since the vacuum is being often used, it is just normal that dirt, dog hair, and other things will be stuck there.

The suction control slider is located at the front of the cleaner head. The ball located between the bin and the cleaner head.
Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

A clogged filter in a Dyson vacuum can create a muffled sucking sound or a high-pitched squealing during use. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum`s filter. Remove the filter by twisting the purple dial labeled “filter” located at the top of the vacuum.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
Check the Rotator Brush and Wheels

Sometimes pieces of string or other objects get wrapped around your vacuum`s rotating brush or around the wheels of the vacuum. Unplug your vacuum. Turn it over and have a look at the wheels and brush. If you see any pieces of string or objects lodged there, remove them.

Low compression, an intake leak or tight valves also can cause low vacuum at idle. If the vacuum reading fluctuates within the normal range-the gauge needle bounces around a lot-uneven compression (broken rings or leaking valves or head gasket in one or two cylinders) is a likely culprit.
Gravity and friction are the two main forces that make vacuum suction work. While gravity pulls molecules in the air toward the earth, creating an atmospheric pressure, the suction cup and vacuum pump cause a pressure difference, attaching both surfaces.
The two main indicators to determine vacuum power performance are water lift and airflow. The water lift is measured in mmH2O, mbar or kPa. It represents the suction force and is the reference parameter for vacuuming liquids and heavy materials. The airflow is measured in m3/h or in l/s.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is the most powerful vacuum we`ve ever tested. The most powerful upright we`ve ever tested, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuumed 76.3% of our testing dirt in a single pass, far exceeding the upright average of about 33%.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
If your vacuum is leaving dirt behind, or even spitting dirt back out while cleaning, it`s usually due to a blockage. It sounds like you`re experiencing this from the base of your machine, so we would suggest having a look at this video here, on removing blockage from the cleanerhead.
Dyson cordless vacuums

Heavy duty performance for big cleans on all floor types. Lightweight and versatile for everyday use.

In many cases, you probably can repair a Dyson yourself, especially when it comes to common issues (see below). However, even if your machine needs some extra TLC by a Dyson expert, it can be worth getting it repaired.
The Dyson V6 is designed so that you can store the unit on the charger. Storing the Dyson on the charger will not harm the battery and it is not necessary to use the unit until the battery is depleted.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

All vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head or tool, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and/or filter system and then out the exhaust port. This airflow is created by the vacuum motor, which also may be referred to as the suction motor.
Suction pressure should be kept at less than 200 mmHg in adults. It should be set at 80 mmHg to 120 mmHg in neonates.
Suction pressure is the negative difference in pressure between two places that drags liquid or gas from a higher pressure state to a lower pressure state. The suctional force in plants is caused by transpiration. This force aids the plant in obtaining essential minerals from the soil.
Peristaltic pumps may also be referred to as hose pumps and are ideal for suction lift applications.

Dyson DC17 Animal Not Sucking as Well as it Used to
ANSWER : I have had very good luck calling Dyson.

.My machine seemed to be doing the same thing–but also dust and hair was building up on top of the filter after one use. I called Dyson, and they sent me a new canister–apparently something wrong with how it was sealing.

I’m trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?
ANSWER : Hi,

DC17 is much better than DC14. I always believe User’s review are much better than what Features Company usually Displays.

I need to replace the brushbaron my DC17 Animal model Dyson. It’s almost four years old. I can’t find the correct part number on the Dyson Website and I can’t seem to find a Dyson repair center in Albuquerque, NM.

What are my alternatives? If I can’t service this machine without returning it to Dyson, I won’t ever buy another one.

ANSWER : Hi,
.
.The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01
.
.If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.

Power shuts off on my dyson dc17 animal
ANSWER : I had the same issue. Got on the phone with Dyson. THe vacuum has a safety feature where if the motor gets too hot it cuts off. You have to leave it for 45 minutes or so and then it will work again. There is an underlying issue though. My problem was the black gasket thats in the debris bin shifted, probably from when emptying i pushed it on something. The black gasket should actually hang off the bottom like a skirt and the 2 groves should fit in on the groves of the gray mechanism. This seal is what provides 100% suction. Because of this..my vaccumm has been accumulating pet hair by the belt which i hear alot of people talking about and especially in the filter area. This is because I broke the seal by not having the gasket in place properly and it wasnt sucking 100%. They are sending me a complete new cyclone unit which has the debris catcher as well as she said its probably so caked up with debris it will never work again 100%. no questions asked they are sending it to me free of charge.
.
.So if you remove the clear cyclinder debris catch thing all you will have is the purple cyclone on top and on the bottom is the black rubber gasket….
