How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If the vacuum cleaner stops suddenly, the filters should be checked to make sure that they are not blocked or that they require changing. This applies to both bagged and bagless models. Also check if the nozzle or hose are blocked.
If your RoboVac has been used for more than one year, it may be time to replace the battery. Replacing the battery usually fixes this specific issue. You can purchase a new battery to replace the existing battery.

The filter assembly is not washable and should be placed every six months. As with the canisters and uprights, an excessively dirty filter leads to motor noise, loss of suction, and overheating.

The new Electrolux cordless vacuums have a long battery life, which makes cleaning your home a breeze. The batteries can last for up to 60 minutes on a single charge, which is more than enough time to clean your entire home. The batteries also charge quickly, so you can get back to cleaning in no time.
Blockages or dirty filters may cause this to happen, the safety cut off will activate and switch off the electrical supply. If the cleaner has cut out, simply unplug and check for a blockage or dirty filters.
If the washing machine suddenly stops working in the middle of a cycle and does not display an error code, this could be due to a problem with the water supply or drains.
Keep your robot plugged in and charging on the Home Base® or Clean Base™ when not in use. If your robot will not be used for more than a few weeks, we recommend placing the robot in ship mode. and storing it in a cool, dry place.
On average, a well-maintained robotic vacuum cleaner can last up to 4-6 years, but some models may last even longer.
A thermal cut off is a heat-sensitive device that automatically disconnects the power to a vacuum`s motor when the operating temperature exceeds a safe value.
Vacuum cleaners are often designed to turn themselves off if they hit a thermal cut-off point. Basically, if the machine is starting to overheat, there is an automatic system in place to prevent damage to your vacuum or other issues. The most common cause of overheating is blockage.
Electrolux consistently rates well in Canstar Blue`s customer satisfaction ratings, especially in the areas of value for money, quietness and ease of use, amongst others. It has a wide range of vacuums from stickvacs to handhelds, giving you plenty of choice.
Yes. The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it`s next used. Once the battery is fully charged, your machine won`t use any more electricity and will enter a standby/idle state.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
If the filter bag or canister is too full, it cannot pick up any additional particles and will simply jam or the motor will overheat and shut down. So, when you suspect your unit is about 75 per cent full, empty it!
If your dishwasher keeps beeping and stopping, the odds are that the door latch is loose. The reason why the dishwasher is stopping mid-cycle is that the sensor on the door latch is shorted or obscured. It could also mean that the door latch is simply broken.
Make sure that the machine contains enough moist content since dry content may result in erratic cycle times (cycle stops after a minute) If there is not enough moist content in the drum, the programme may finish prematurely.
Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

Electrolux model 2100 shuts off with slightest suction blockage
ANSWER : This is exactly the symptom you would expect from a defective bag control valve. The actual control valve sits under the dial on top of the vac and often cracks internally. It can be replaced in about 15 minutes by a good tech with genuine parts from AERUS Elctrolux dealer or repair center.
You can open the vac front to rear like a **** shell by sliding the bumpers out the front with the bag door open, however you must be careful not to disturb the wiring harness and to mark wiring locations. The body must be carefully realigned for closure. If it is not perfect you will not be able to slide the bumpers back in.

I have an easy flo vacuum model # 199C and it won’t shut off. It started out as an intermitent problem but now will not shut off when the hose is unplugged, nor when the off/on switch on the main unit is shut off. the only way to get the motor to stop running is to unplug the unit. Any ideas?
ANSWER : Just had this same problem. I unplugged the low voltage signal wires and the vacuum stayed on. Thus eliminating the possibility of the signal wires shorting out somewhere. I’m not really sure which wire(s) were causing the problem. But when I disassembled the top housing to expose the motor and wiring it seemed to work just fine. My theory is that the heat of the motor caused the insulation on a wire to melt which was then shorting somewhere inside the housing. I suggest removing the motor housing before buying any parts or calling easy-flo. If you’re lucky like me then your vacuum should be running again in a matter of minutes.

My vacuum cleaner will run for a few minutes and then shuts off. The plug light on the panel blinks. I thought the motor was shut, but after a long time it will turn on again, but again, only for a few minutes and then shuts off again. Any ideas? I bought an Oxygen Ultra a few years ago, but I don’t like it nearly as much as the old Epic.
ANSWER : I know nothing about your particular vacuum, but many vacuum cleaners these days have
.safety cut out’s, which causes the motor to do exactly what you describe. Sadly blockages, faulty switches, over stretched cables, carbon brushes etc could also give similar symptoms, so sounds like a job for the repairer on this occasion. Get a quote first if you can.

My electrolux oxygen vacuum cleaner shut off and will not turn back on. It’s less than a year old, but I bought it off Craig’s list–they were the orginal owner and they said they bought it in May of 2008. I’ve only used it a few times and it worked fine except for the last time when it suddenly just shut off. I thought maybe it had come unplugged and I didn’t really worry about it because I was finished vacuuming. But, I went to use it tonight and it would not turn on at all–no lights, nothing
ANSWER : No..Electrolux is really great about warranty service. They will help you even though you are not the original owner. http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/files/usa_english/0-999/OxygenOwnersManual.pdf owners manual. Here is a link to the site.
.http://smallappliances.electroluxusa.com/node82.asp Also, you might check for an obstruction. The Electrrolux is thermostatically protected. Means that if there is no airflow through the motor, the motor will shut down before overheating can occur. Remove your hose from the cleaner. Drop a quarter down through it, did it come through? If not, you have a clogged hose. If it came through, remove your wand from the power nozzle, look througfh the wand, is it clogged? Now, look at the power nozzle, can you see light through the elbow? Your cleaner will come back on after it has cooled. Try the machine. It should be working now. I hope I could help to Fixya! Please let me know if I helped you. Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)
