Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum\015 My Eureka 4870 worked fine for the first year, but now the brush/roller won't stop turning in “carpet” mode when the handle is in the upright position. I've read other posts with a suggestion to move the carpet/bare floor switch, which will stop the brush from turning, but the brush is supposed to stop turning in the carpet mode when the handle returned to the upright position as indicated in the manual with the following note:..NOTE: When handle is in upright position, brush roll.automatically shuts off...I've replaced the belt multiple times and made sure it is installed properly and aligned, but it has not fixed the issue. Can someone please provide a solution? Thanks.\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Inspect the belt to see if it is broken, stretched out, or out of place. If the drive belt is broken or stretched out, replace it. If the brushroll is sticking, it will cause too much friction and put too much strain on the belt. Remove the brushroll and clean all hair, string, and lint from the brushroll bearings.
To reset the thermostat, press the vacuum`s power button into off position and unplug the vacuum. Check the vacuum for potential causes of overheating, such as clogs or a full dust cup, and allow the vacuum to set and cool off for 30 minutes before turning it back on.
Vacuum Cleaner: Why doesn`t my vacuum cleaner`s brush roll spin? A broken drive belt, damaged brush roll, jammed brush roll bearings, tripped brush roll motor overload, failed brush roll motor or a wiring failure in the wand or nozzle can prevent the brush roll from spinning.
Clear the brush roll of any hair and debris and inspect by placing it on its end and spin. The brush should spin freely. If it doesn`t spin; it may be time to replace.
A Revolving Brush Roll Greatly Enhances Carpet Cleaning

These brush rolls revolve at a very high speed, agitating the carpet fibers in the process. The effect of this is to loosen dirt and move it toward the top, aiding in its removal from the carpet fibers.

The brush roll or its bearings may be clogged with hair, threads or dirt. Make sure they are clean and the roll spins. The belt may also have slipped because it was loose. Check the fit of the new belt when it is installed.

Placing the handle of my Dyson DC07 into its upright and locked position causes the beater bar to stop turning. It will not start turning until the handle is first lowered to the working position and the Carpet/Bare knob is moved to the Bare Floor position and then back to the Carpet position. Then the beater bar turns until the handle is placed into the upright position. What might be the problem?
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the “on” position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Now that I just fixed my Lux Legacy canister vacuum, I need help on my other Electrolux Regency Series upright! The vacuum works fine but the rotating brush does not work and the brush motor does not turn on. Tried cleaning the brush and hitting hte reset button to no avail. This upright has a triple setting switch and I checked the each of the wires seem to be attached. Tried rotating the brush by hand and it would not budge. Was going to “encourage” the brush to turn with a set of articula
ANSWER : There are a couple rectangular holes on the bottom of the power nozzle, beside the wheels. These have tabs in them that need released with a standard screwdriver.
.rogerpotts_10.jpg.Once they release, turn the vacuum over and lift cover of power nozzle at the back. This pulls the front of the cover out of the lip on the “bumper”.
.Once this is done, you’ll need to unscrew the screw at each end of the brush. Lift the brush out and thoroughly clean it, including the ends.
. rogerpotts_9.jpg.
.Check the wiring to make sure they’re connected to the terminals of the motor. Also, check the belt for wear and tear. These belts can last for five years or more, but if it looks bad a good time to replace it is while you have the power head apart.
.When reassembling the vacuum, ensure the belt is fitted properly around the motor shaft and brush.
.Insert the front of the cover first, ensuring the edge fits neatly beneath the lip on the bumper all the way around. It takes a little manipulating to press the back into place. Make sure both tabs click into the locked position. Turn the vacuum over and reinstall screws. Try to rotate brush by hand a few times.
.At this point, plug the vacuum in and turn it on. If the power head doesn’t run, press the reset button. If the power head motor still doesn’t run, it could be due to loose or disconnected wires that lead to the reset switch, a bad reset switch, or even a bad motor. The vacuum needs to be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for further diagnosis and repair.

My machine (Hoover Wind Tunnel – bagless) is only 1 yr. old. The agitator brush doesn’t turn all the time. I know it’s not supposed to turn when in the upright position. However, it only seems to work when I have the setting on high. When I stop, but have not put the machine in the upright position, it stops again and then slowly starts moving. Could the V-belt be worn out already? In the owner’s manual it states that this belt is not normally replaced. The exact same thing happened with my old
ANSWER : Sounds like you should do two things:.1- Remove and clean the beater brush of all debris as best you can. At the end of the brush you will see a hard rubber piece, at both ends, that holds it in place in the body of the vacuum..Add some WD40 between the brush and these pieces and turn until they move freely..2- When you reassemble, put a new belt on..
.This should be all you need to do..If you find this information to be of help, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you..Be well,.Paul
