Hoover U6446-900 WindTunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum\015 We purchased one in December and has been working great, however, recently it started making a lot of noise by the roller. We took it apart and examined the roller and belt, and they were fine, however the height adjustment knob doesn’t work properly and vibrates loudly. The manual doesn’t address this issue at all, can anyone help? Other than the horrible noise, it works wonderfully.\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
No need to worry about keeping bags on hand or where to find more. There is no extra expense for buying bags. If your bagless vacuum has a clear cylinder or tray, it`s cool to actually see all of the dust and dirt particles swirling around in the dust cylinder under high pressure.
The vacuum filter will stop all the fine particulates and dust from getting into the inner workings of your vacuum, but can also store a lot of the odour causing material. We advise replacing your vacuum filter every 6 months to maintain performance and to prevent those smells.
Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

.I had the same noise problem as everyone else here and found no solutions on the web. i took the thing apart a few different times to no avail. i read here that it could possibly be the brush bearings but i didn’t believe that was the problem. i removed the brush and spun the bearings in my hand and they seemed to be ok, i didnt feel or hear anything wrong. i looked around the house for something to use to lubricate the bearings but i found nothing. i then remembered the all purpose wonder tool that is olive oil. i carefully added some to brush bearings on both sides and spun them in my hand a little bit and put everything back together. Voala! The vacuum now runs as quiet as the day i first bought it. i no longer feel ashamed to vacuum at 11pm and my neighbors can get some sleep 😀
.I called the manufacturer (1-800-282-2886) and spoke with a very nice woman on the phone. While I was speaking with her I noticed that a silver screw was lodged within the “brush roll control” yellow selector switch. With some shaking it became dislodged and I was able to put the “brush roll control” into the hard floors setting and turn the “carpet height adjustment” all the way to the right, so that it was facing the word “low.” I then followed the instructions for replacing the belt again.. (1) remove base plate (2) remove brush roll (3) place new belt around motor shaft and then around brush roll (4) insert left side of brush roll before right side (5) rotate brush roll to be sure belt is centered (6) replace base plate, making sure to insert under 4 little tabs before securing with screws.
.It appears that it is very important that the carpet height and brush control adjustment are set to their highest point possible (hardwood setting) in order to get the brush to roll in a carpet setting.
.″R” is the correct belt for the 4870 and should be correct for all other 4800 models.
.Thank you for posting your problem to this website. If I hadn’t seen that others were having trouble, I would have just given up. I hope this long post helps someone that was in my situation.
.Tear in Eureka Upright “The Boss” 4870
.Posted by kdunnett on Jun 07, 2008
.I have a tear in the hose of an upright Eureka “The Boss” 4870 vacuum. I cannot find how to release the parts I need to get the hose out and put in a new hose (which I already have) I’ve searched the Eureka site and the owner’s manual – nothing about how to replace the hose itself. Thanks in advance.
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum. In answer to your question, the owner’s manual may or may not give an example to install the hose only, but on most vacuums the hose sometimes will screw in to the hose cuff on both ends unless if it is a hose assm then it will then twist and turn. Check with the Eureka website and have them send out a schematic and owner’s manual for you so that you can install your hose properly. Sometimes you have to place hose glue on the end of each side in order for the hose to screw in properly. the website address will be listed below and they certainly should supply you with the owners’ manual and maybe a schematic of the parts breakdown that also may help. If not; check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
