How do sewing machine feed dogs work? Sewing machine feed dogs are metal teeth-like ridges that protrude from a hole in a sewing machine`s throat plate. As you sew, feed dogs softly hold the bottom cloth, assisting it in passing through the sewing machine and producing a high-quality stitch.
Below the presser foot in the base of your machine are metal “teeth” called the feed dog (15). These teeth work together with the presser foot to move the fabric towards the back of the machine while the needle and bobbin threads make the stitch line.
For them, 40-50% carbohydrates (dry matter basis) and 12-17% fat is appropriate, with 300-400 calories per cup of food. These dogs should have small meals the day before an event and receive carbohydrates post activity, especially if they do multiple short events in one day.
For that reason, working dogs benefit the most from food containing a whole protein for muscle-building and recovery – such as turkey or lamb, or another form of meat, poultry or fish – and food with a higher fat and calorie content than normal dog food, to ensure slow-released energy and endurance (2).
Most contemporary sewing machines have a switch that lowers the feed dogs. Some older machines have a plate that is used to cover the feed dogs. Some quilters use plastic or even playing cards to cover feed dogs that cannot be lowered.
Feed dogs are meant to be up and engaged so you can sew evenly spaced stitches. This is the way the machine is designed to be used!

I want to disassemble a canister vac model #5561209 for cleaning. Vacuum bottom plate says to check manual for instruction. Can’t find manual for instructions…:)
ANSWER : I can’t find the manual for that model number. Here’s the Kenmore site with most of their models.
.Double check the number, and type it into the given space. Again, that model number comes up blank. Googling it also provides no hit.
.However, I did find one for the 55612-90, which may be what you want, or at least very similar (55612).
