If the motor filter (located below the bag) is dirty, hand wash with soapy water. Rinse with clear water, squeeze out excess water, and allow it to dry completely before returning it to the vacuum. Insert a new dust bag and close the cover.
This washable filter (part number KC38KCEN1000) is for vacuums. Foam Filters: Usually circular, foam filters can be cleaned with soap and water. Pleated Paper or Synthetic Cartridges: These inexpensive filters are often not washable but you can clean them several times before replacing them.
It`s best to change your air filter approximately every six months and/or when your CHANGE FILTER light comes on your LED control panel.
Check its label or user`s manual. If it says washable or permanent (these are two different types of filters and aren`t interchangeable), you can clean it. If your HEPA filter isn`t washable or permanent, then you should replace it. If your filter is labeled permanent, you`ll need to vacuum it.
Can you clean a HEPA filter? If your HEPA filter is not specifically labeled as washable or “permanent,” then the answer is no – while it may still filter the air it will have reduced effectiveness after washing.
Many vacuums have not one but two filters. The pre-motor or air inlet filter can be found before airflow travels past the motor.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #. Go Ahead. Use Us. I had used Dyson DC08 to **** out a wet car carpet. A few days later when using the V/C, there was a burning smell. Subsequently I washed the flexible hose, changed the pre-filter and post filter , but I wrongly put the pre-filter in the spot for the post filter. When the V/C was next used, there was again a burning smell and sparks. The filters were switched, but the V/C would not re-start.
What shall I do?

Our problem with our Rainbow E Series is that it has sucked water up and blown it out through the lower part of the hepa filter, making the filter wet and dirty. This had happened before and the repair shop did not see any problems with the machine, so we replaced the filter and were very carful not to overfill the tank and to change the water often. Now it has happened again and ruined another filter. Do you know what could be causing this issue? Can the filter be cleaned or will a new one be

1. There is no reason to waste money on an EXPENSIVE replacement. While some people may like the fact that something that may be brand new may work better, this is not always the case.

2. You can easily set the filter out to try as long as there is NO WET ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, if so, you will be facing electrical damage

3. Once you have performed a natural or sun dry on the old filter, ensure to check your unit for anything that may have caused the back clog.

4. Back clogs for your model are often times associated with a BUILD UP of dirt and HAIR. YOU may always use pressure air for example at a gas station to flush out the build up.

5. Other occasions, users accidently build the vac WRONG causing continual backup and water going where it is NOT suppose to go.

I just received my Hepa filter in the mail today. Product #XSH621 – Hepa filter for EP619 & EP621 :005-04 When bought my vacumn, I was told that the filters were free and all I do is pay Postage. Today I received one filter and it lookes like I got charged the postage for two filters. The packages slips: One stated order #11152282 The other order # 1151940 If I get charged for two I expect to receive two. Can you help me with this matter or where can I go to get resolution. ANSWER : This isn’t really a problem that can be fixed here on Fixya rather than advise you as a buyer. You’d have to contact the people/company you have purchased the filters from and take it up with them regarding the postage. Hope you get a decent reply.
Kenmore progressive upright filter is being bypassed, clogging screen at outlet. Tried new filter, no change. 7 or 8 passes with the vacuum and the screen at outlet gets clogged.
ANSWER : Take the filter out and hold your hand over the filter connection. Turn it on and see where the air is being bypassed. What you see should suggest the fix.

Bad Motor I have purchased two of the Kenmore direct drive beltless systems with Progressive systems. The first died after a year, the vacuum motor start making a grinding noies. I pulled the side HEPA filter and could see a fine coating of graphite like dust. Took it to a vacuum repair shop. They said the brushes were going and thus the motor was shot. I liked the vacuum and bought a second, 1 year later the motor is making a slight noise that and removing the HEPA filter I find a slight metall
ANSWER : That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt has stretched and needs to replaced. If electrical, then something is causing the motor to run hot, like a clogged filter, or it could be a motor going bad.
Kenmore 21875 One day it’s working fine. Next day, it won’t turn on. When I attach the hose to another vacuum cleaner, it runs. Is there a reset button on the canister? Could it be the receptacle is bad?
My Kenmore Progressive won’t turn on today either -but was fine last week. I cleaned the filters checked for blocked air, tried a different outlet and no luck. I’ll check the pins on the connections and see if one of them is not matching up or appears worn.
ANSWER : Give the prongs a wiggle and see if there is any play in them.Might just be a plug end.
