How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Check to see if there is water in the water tank. If there isn`t, unscrew the water tank cap and use the filling flask to pour distilled water into the tank until it reaches the fill line. Replace the water tank cap and tighten. Power the device on, wait about 30 seconds for the water to heat up, and then try again.
Heating Element. A common cause to your cleaner not producing steam can be a failed heating element. As the heater is used to heat up the water, if that has ruptured or burnt out your steam cleaner will not produce any steam. With the water tank filled and switched on the steamer should sound like a boiling kettle.
Not Plugged In

You will notice a blinking blue light on the front of the device when plugged in correctly. If the light fails to come on then try to plug into a different outlet. If the light still does not come on, call the Shark Professional Customer Care at 1-800-798-7398.

If the spinning brush roll is clogged with lots of hair and other debris, that could explain why the shark vacuum brush is not spinning. To remove any hair caught in the vacuum cleaner`s brush roll, remove it by pressing the brush roll access buttons and removing the brush roll.
Manually turn your shark robot upside, find and press the power button for about 10 seconds, give it some 10 – 15 seconds, then turn it back on. Your shark robot will reboot and reset in the process. You can also use the Shark Clean app to factory reset your shark robot.
Pull the wound-up power cord out of the mop and plug it into a 120-volt outlet. The on/standby button will start flashing blue. The mop only takes about 30 seconds to fully heat up.
We have had some customers who have had their steam cleaners for 5-8 years and are still going strong. For less expensive models like the steam mops or handhelds, you should probably expect more like 3-6 years of consistent use.
You might wonder what the batteries are for since most steam mops need to be plugged in, but the Shark Steam & Spray mop can actually run on both- electricity AND batteries! The Shark Steam & Spray Pro is easy to maneuver through all the crevices of the home and gets into corners and under tables.
Hold down the steam trigger for about a minute to get the water circulating. You`ll be able to get the steam going in no time. If the garment steamer isn`t new, however, you may be out of water. Check the water reservoir inside of the machine and fill it up if it`s empty.
Many people think you need to mop with boiling water to thoroughly clean your floors. This, however, is a myth – rather than always giving you a better clean, the temperature of the water can actually have a negative effect.
A solid green light

If your Shark`s LED indicator is lit up solid green, this is just to say that the brush roll, motor, and other vacuum components are all operating correctly.

The power indicator light on the side of the dock will be green if it is receiving power and will turn blue once it is successfully charging your robot. If you do not see a green light, try plugging the dock into a different outlet.
To reset your shark vacuum, put the Power button in the On-Off position and keep the vacuum unplugged. If necessary, clear the hose. Once it has cooled completely, plug the vacuum back in again.
Using hot water also reduces the drying time after cleaning, which means the areas and items you`ve cleaned are available sooner.
Heat: To effectively sanitize, the steam cleaner must heat the water to 200 degrees. The hotter it gets, the drier the steam, resulting in a lower probability of damaging certain surfaces with excess water.
To prolong the life of your steam mop, we recommend using distilled water in the tank. Make sure you only add water to the tank – chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe.
If the device isn`t producing steam, please try the following: Check for any debris or blockages in the head and main body. Empty and refill the tank. Check for any limescale/debris in the tank itself and descale if necessary.
Steam mops are no good at mopping up large spills however, as they have no suction power (to mop up spills you need a traditional mop and bucket or a wet and dry vacuum).
Steam mopping over a painted surface is risky, even if the paint layer is sealed. The heat from the steam can cause bubbles beneath the paint, which may then peel. Best to avoid steam mopping on all painted floor surfaces.
Yes you can leave it in the charger.
The Carpet setting should also be used when cleaning stuck-on dust and debris. To truly understand how much time I need to charge and use my Shark vacuum. Most Shark robot vacuums require between four and eight hours to fully charge, although some models may take up to 12 hours.
Fill the water tank on your steam cleaner, and allow time to heat-up time. Your cleaner may have an indicator light to let you know when it`s ready, or you may just have to wait a few minutes.
It`s imperative that you vacuum the floor before steaming. You could alternatively sweep if you don`t have a vacuum. But good suction power will pull lint, dust, and other surface debris from the cracks, preventing them from dirtying the mop pad. Once vacuumed, your floor is ready to steam mop.
Check the power cable and make sure that it`s not damaged. A frayed cord is an electrical hazard. If your iron`s cord is frayed, stop using the appliance immediately and contact an authorised service agent. Make sure the temperature adjustment knob is set above the MIN position.

I have a Roomba 560 (it’s still in warranty !!) and, after my summer vacation, it has a problem.
When I’m charging Roomba, the orange light blinks (and this is normal!) but this orange blinking continues forever…. the light doesn’t change to green.
If I detach Roomba from the charger, the light become green and it works normally until the light changes to red and I have to charge it again.

WHY, DURING THE CHARGING PHASE, THE LIGHT DOESN’T CHANGE FROM ORANGE-BLINKING TO GREEN?

HAVE I

ANSWER : The problem is not with the charger itself but it is with the battery inside the Roomba. It sunds like one or more of the cells has gone bad so its not holding the same charge as it did. I would recomend sending it in while the warranty is still valid so they will replace it. Your charger and the Roomba itself should be fine.

A few tips to keep the battery working longer:
Only charge the battery when it is drained all the way to zero. It will help keep the battery active.

Only charge the battery until it is full and then disconect it from the power source. It will keep it active longer plus it will help keep your electric bill down.

My new H2O Mop Ultra (Danoz) seems to heat up ok then when the light switches to green and I start using it, the orange light comes back on as well as the green. Produces steam to start with but then it starts to spit water too and everything ends up wet. Any ideas on whats wrong or should I just send it back?
ANSWER : That is a major hardware fault, I have seen this numerous times with these H2O mop’s… They seem to either work perfectly for a long while or have problems right off the bat. You definitely want to send this unit back and either get a refund or at least have them send you a new one..

I have a Casa Blanca Intelitouch ceiling fan.
Panama5
12004T model no.??
serial no.: AU16550
A casa blanca tri-switch on the wall: lights-fan-power

When I turn it on, the lights and fan work fine.
After a period of time, the lights go off by themselves.
I don’t remember the fan ever going off by itself, only the lights.

ANSWER : The light are going off only because after a period of time the circuit lets off the trigger on the switching thyristor. So the fault is within the control box of the unit which must be taken out to confirm.
.Now attempt to do the job only if your are competent with high voltage circuits as the circuit must be checked before and after the lights switch off.
.It is also possible that the switching device the thyristor may be on dry soldering joint. So with the mains power off( or the power disconnected to the unit) have yourself insulated , use a soldering iron to touch up all the joints.
.Failure of capacitors in the trigger circuit is also possible to have this delay off.
.Trace the trigger voltage cut off at this point to come to the solution.( use a multimeter)

My dyson DC05 has been playing up for a while. The motorhead would start fine with green light on and after a few minutes would stop and light would go green. then the power would go on and off – seemed to only work when I had the handle a certain way. Now no power at all. is there a way that I can check if its the power in the handle section as thats the only way you can turn this machine on? Thanks in advance
ANSWER : As the wires that control the motorhead run all the way down the hose it is a break in the wires you will need to buy the hose assy sorry its not thesort of thing you strip down and repair
