.I have made a video of the two most likely causes for lack of suction in the handle of your dyson DC07. Watch the video and see if it helps. The other thing to check is your washable filter, this can cause a big resuction in suction if dirty. If this is helpful take a moment to leave a testimonial or a thumbs up please.

Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor

I suspect the belt you are to refering to is the one from the clutch to the brush bar. Unfortuenately the other belt is hidden under a plastic cover, so you cant see if it is okay or not without some dismantling. This cover is not easy to remove and requires a Torx driver to under the securing screws.
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com, but unless you have access to such a tool, probably time to call Dyson or a Vacuum repairer.
