Sewing Parts Online. eBay – There are many old manuals sold on eBay. Alternatively, you may find someone has a machine the same as yours for sale, and the seller may be willing to make a copy of the manual for you. It never hurts to ask!
Find Your Model #

For sewing machines manufactured since about 1990, look for the model number on the handwheel side of the machine near the on/off switch or the electric cord receptacle.

Sewing machine manuals are considered a “part,” or an essential piece of equipment to the machine. For those who know the make and model of the sewing machine, it`s likely they`ll be able to locate a manual. The first step is finding the machine`s manufacturer and model number.
Manual vs Automatic

The manual industrial sewing machines work much like a domestic sewing machine. Filling a bobbin is done manually as is threading a needle and cutting the thread. While some domestic machines can do the last two tasks, they are the more expensive machines on the market.

Depending on the model and condition, Singer sewing machine values can vary dramatically from about $50 to upwards of $500.
Singer sewing machines was founded by Issac Singer in 1850. This model was manufactured in 1865 in Singer`s factory, New York. The first factory outside of America was built in Glasgow, Scotland in 1867. In 1870 Singer sold 170,000 machines and opened up its first factory in England.
Tension settings:

The standard tension is 4. Singer says that “90% of all sewing will be between `3` and `5`”.

Sometimes abbreviated as model or model no., a model number is a unique number given to each product made by computer hardware manufacturers. Model numbers allow manufacturers to keep track of each hardware device and identify or replace the proper part when needed.
While vintage machines might be heavier, sturdier, more well made, they can also be finicky and expensive to fix at a shop (emphasis on the can! I know they can also be wonderful and well made and totally worth it).
Industrial sewing machines are built to sew at high speeds for their intended purpose, making them ideal for repetitive tasks or production work. Domestic sewing machines typically have a lower sewing speed, which is more suitable for light to medium-duty use.
Manual sewing machine is powered by hands or legs. That is to say, the users have to operate the machine by their own hands or legs. Comparing with electric sewing machine, the production capacity of manual sewing machine is low.
Industrial sewing machines can be grouped into 2 general categories; lock stitch sewing machines and chain stitch sewing machines. Lock stitch machines construct stitches using a needle thread and a bobbin thread against one needle and are applied mainly to woven materials.
You can use them for longer, and with tougher fabrics, than domestic sewing machines, and they`ve been built to last so they`re less likely to break in the process. They are worth considering if you`re looking to start dressmaking for a living or if you want to start making curtains or other chunkier items to sell.
Singer 221 and 222 Featherweight – One of the most sought after Singer machines is the 221 and 222 Featherweight, which are still popular with quilters, craftspeople, and seamstresses.
Singer sewing machines are good choices for home use. Many crafters, sewists, and quilters rate Singer machines as their top choices. The Singer company has earned a reputation for manufacturing reliable, high-quality sewing machines for more than 170 years.
Sewing is a very forgiving craft so feel free to experiment and try a variety of fabrics and the different stitches your machine has to offer. Make full use of your manual to guide you through the steps of sewing buttonholes, using the zig zag stitch or other decorative stitches.
If you want to start sewing so you can make a quilt, DIY project, or fashionable shirt for yourself, you need an easy-to-use sewing machine that can create an array of even stitches, bind fabric in a flash, and handle thick material. The good news is that there are a lot of sewing machines that check those boxes.
Probable Causes: – Top or bobbin thread has not been set correctly. – The thread does not match the needle. – Thread tension is not properly set.
Isaac Merritt Singer invented the world`s first practical sewing machine in 1850. Since 1851, the name SINGER® has been synonymous with sewing. This was the year of Isaac Singer`s patent on the first practical sewing machine, making the official beginning of SINGER as a company and its leadership in the industry.
Having obtained 22 patents until then, the brand was turned into an incorporated company. It started to sell 20.000 sewing machines on annual basis. Singer sewing machines were started to be manufactured in Glasgow, Scotland. The company assumed the title of being the first overseas company in the world.
In general, sewing machines are known to last well over five years and sometimes as long as 25 years.
The dial settings run from 0 to 9, so 4.5 is generally the `default` position for normal straight-stitch sewing. This should be suitable for most fabrics. If you are doing a zig-zag stitch, or another stitch that has width, then you may find that the bobbin thread is pulled through to the top.
Model code means a nationally recognized document developed by a private entity for use by State or local jurisdictions in developing codes as defined in this section.
Model and serial numbers are used to identify a specific product. The model number differentiates between models of devices—for example, iPhone® 13 and iPhone X. Many devices can share a model number, which means they`re the same model. But every device has its own unique serial number, sometimes abbreviated as S/N.

Our beautiful Bernina 730 sewing machine has been stored in the garage in its original case, and that wrapped in plastic, for a few years now. Temperatures have been both hot and cold in the garage, but the environment was dust-free.

We have brought the Bernina in, set it up, oiled it as specified in the manual, with the original sewing machine oil. We have correctly threaded the machine and the bobbin thread is up.

When we press on the pedal to sew, the machine gets electricity and buzzes

ANSWER : Hello and thank you for using Fixya ….
From what you describe there can be only 2 causes…Either the machine is still stuck ..and the motor buzzes cause it can not spin it ..and in this case it needs to be oiled more..and be spun by hand until it moves well and free…and after that it will work ..or during the storage ..from condense or so ..the motor is stuck ..and needs to be checked…In this second case ..it probably need to be oiled too (the motor ) ..and the coils changed..
Have a nice day ..!

With my K6 Industrial Singer sewing machine the top thread seems to be too tight. The bottom thread is looping too much on the top of the fabric. The timming is ok. I have checked and rechecked that I have threaded it correctly. It was working great the other day. Please help as we are live out on a property and too far out to get someone out to look at it. Thanks Tania Sorry no category for sewing machines on your list
ANSWER : Hello there, loosen your top thread tension,if it looping on top of the material the tension is way too tight, you will also find changing the thread size to smaller thread, the top tension will also reduce, depending on application a good size thread to use is 25 grade, bobbin tension should have just a slight amount of drag as the top thread and bottom work against each other when sewing.

My Singer Izek sewing machine starts and stops and wont sew continuously. When I push down the pedal it sews about 2 inches then stops and light starts flashing, I have to let off of the pedal and push it again, over and over. It did this once before for awhile and then just started sewing right for awhile and now its started it again. I’ve checked everything.
ANSWER : If it’s not the thread and not the pedal then it’s definitely a power problem. You need to replace the power cable and then check again the functionality.
