Oreck Vacuums
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Oreck Vacuum bags available for all Oreck upright and canister vacuums. Oreck XL is one of the most popular Oreck vacuum cleaners but there are two different types of bags that fit XL models (with bag dock or without bag dock) so it is important to use your model number to determine the correct bags for your machine.
Not All Vacuum Bags Are the Same
A good rule of thumb is to use the highest quality vacuum cleaner bags you can afford. You can find virtually any bag, even discontinued models, online if they are not available locally. The fundamental principle is always to use the bag recommended by the factory for your vacuum model.
Convenience – One of the most obvious reasons to choose a bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner is because it is much easier to manage. You don`t need to think about buying spare bags – ever! See your dirt – It is much easier to see when the cylinder needs emptying if you don`t have a bag inside your vacuum.
A senior test project leader stated that one of his top tips for lengthening a vacuum`s lifespan is “Don`t let the bag or bin get filled to the brim, which can clog the machine.” In addition to the extra work, dust escaping from a reused bag tends to go right back into the motor, causing damage.
So, you don`t need some sort of special vacuum sealing apparatus to suck the air out of most plastic vacuum seal bags. As long as your vacuum can pull air through its hose, it can be used to remove the air from a plastic vacuum sealing bag`s valve.
The Standard vacuum storage bags are available in a whole range of sizes, and sizing varies by manufacturer, but see our guide to vacuum storage bag sizes as a start. However at the larger and Jumbo sizes for duvets, make sure you buy a high quality bag or they can tear and not offer the better quality zips.
The Full Dust Bag Indicator in On
It is often recommended, however, that dust bags are replaced when they`re around two thirds full or once a month. Daily and extensive use of vacuum cleaners will create a need to replace dust bags more frequently.
I used drawstring kitchen bags, but large black garbage bags would work very well, as they are less prone to tearing.
Unfortunately, you can`t use any random plastic bag in your vacuum sealing appliance. Far from it. On the contrary, each brand of vacuum sealer comes with its recommended supply of bags – often produced by the same manufacturer and coming with patented technology.
If you are picking up fine debris, you need to add a high efficiency filter bag or HEPA collection bag to trap the fine dust. Without the bag the fine dust will go through the filter and blow back into your room.
You can remove the plastic strip on the bottom to quickly empty the dust bag. After emptying, slide the plastic strip back onto the dust bag and place the dust bag back into the appliance.
Remove the bag from your vacuum cleaner following the manufacturer`s instructions. Take the vacuum cleaner bag outside and dispose of it in your regular trash container. If possible, remove the bag from the machine outside to prevent messes. Do not recycle full vacuum cleaner bags.

To open the bag, you simply pull the zip apart. You don`t let the air in via the valve. All vacuum storage bags will leak in air over time – Neusu vacuum bags have been tested to keep out most of the air, with only minimal leakage, after over four months.

Hi, I purchased a used Oreck BB870-AD canister vacuum cleaner, but it didn’t come with the manual or any bags. Can you tell me where I can find the manual & what type of bags do I need?
ANSWER : The manual is available as a PDF here:
http://www.oreck.com/Owners-Guides . Scroll down to the Canisters section and then select the link for the Compact Canister vacuum.
The replacement bag that you should use is: Oreck Replacement Treated Filter Bags (12 pk. with
1 Micro Filter) No. PKBB12DW which cost $14.99 for each package from Oreck. On the Oreck site, these are the Hand-Vac Bags. See: http://www.oreck.com/Hand-Vac-Bags to order them online.
I hope this helps.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.
I do not have my users manual and have never vacuumed wet with this vacuum. How do I change it from a dry to wet vacuum.
Can’t find my manual and I need to use the shop vac for water in basement, do I have to change the filter or what
lost my user manual never used it to pick up water. need to know how to puit it in wet mode i want to clean the dirty water out of my pool.
ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.
.2. When picking up large amounts of liquid
.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off
.airflow. When this happens, turn off
.the vac, unplug the power cord, and
.empty the drum. You will know that the
.float has risen because vac airflow
.ceases and the motor noise will
.become higher in pitch, due to
.increased motor speed.
.IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage
.to the vac do not run motor with float
.in raised position
Won’t start. My son was using the vacuum & Didn’t change the bag. The vacuum was making the full bag smell, but the light was’t on & it didn’t stop. I stopped him, changed the bag, checked the filter, closed the compartments & turned on the vacuum. Nothing happened. I checked to be sure that it was plugged in, that wasn’t the problem. I’ve let the vacuum “rest” for several days, It still won’t start. Any suggestions?
ANSWER : There is a reset button at the back of the powerhead. The user manual can be downloaded from the electrolux website, although I didn’t find it very useful. There was some info on how to change the powerhead drive belt.
Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor, not contacting the carpeting?? I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting. Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.
I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.
Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)
I was given a Kenmore progressive hepa filter 22313 Bagged Canister Vacuum recently, but don’t have the manual.
We used it once to vacuum the house and it worked beautifully. Then we used it 5-6 days later and it started whining and getting hot.
What year was this vacuum manufactured? Where can I download an owners manual??
