NuTone® PurePower™ Series Central Vacuums combine powerful suction and unmatched filtration, to remove dust and other allergens from your home. Central vacuums exhaust the vacuumed air outside of your home unlike a traditional vacuum that recirculates air back into your living area.
FACT -The components that are in a NUTONE central vacuum are no longer manufactured and built in America – NUTONE`S are now equipped with China made motors, and relays. In fact, 100% of all NUTONE motors today are not made in America any longer.
The power unit is typically located in a garage, basement or utility room.
NuTone® is a registered trademark of Broan-NuTone LLC, and manufactures and distributes residential built-in convenience products including door chimes, central vacuum systems, ceiling fans, intercom systems, ironing centers and ventilation fans. BROAN® is proud to be an ENERGY STAR® partner.
As a central vacuum manufacturer we use the 120 and 240 volt motors. The 120 and 240 motors will not be adversely affected if used with lower voltages. The 120 volt motor will be fine on 110 volts. Likewise, a 240 volt motor will be fine on 220 or 230 volts.
There are five components to a central vacuum system that make it work: The Power Unit, the Piping System, the Low Voltage System, the Hose, and the Attachments.
Neglect your vacuum filter bags, and you`ll swiftly lose suction power. This, in turn, places unnecessary strain on your vacuum`s motor. Eventually, your vacuum will become a lot more difficult to maneuver, not to mention less effective at cleaning your rugs, carpeting, or other surfaces.

Will a dedicated electrical circuit be required for a central vacuum power unit installation? Yes. It must be either a 15 amp or 20 amp circuit depending on the specific power unit you are installing.
Central Vacuum Wiring

For installations, use insulated low voltage wire specifically engineered for appliances such as central vacuum systems. We suggest nothing less than 24-volt, 20-gauge wire, stranded pair. For runs more than 150 feet, 18-gauge wire can be used.

Installing a central vacuum system is a straightforward do-it-yourself project that doesn`t require special tools or skills. The procedure is quite simple if you take your time and follow the instructions carefully. Always fully consider the implications before you cut into a wall.
Most vacuums have a motor amp rating of 12, but sometimes this number can dip to 11 or 10.
Low voltage is traditionally ran to every inlet in order to switch the suction on/off. The cover plate that fits into the mounting plate has two screws where the low voltage wires are connected. Through either the hose being inserted into the cover plate or a hose handle switch the suction turns on.
Power Usage

Most central vacuum cleaners use the same standard 120V socket that a regular vacuum cleaner uses. A good portable vacuum cleaner has around the same amperage rating as a standard central vacuum cleaner (10-13 amps).

Cyclonic and filtered central vacuum systems are the two main types of central vacuums, differentiated by the method used to separate dirt and dust from the incoming airstream.
The bottom line. Many vacuum brands recommend changing the bag before it becomes full, at least every three months. The purpose of changing the vacuum bag when you need to is so that your vacuum cleaner is working at an optimal level.
Vacuum the air out through the seal and then close the valve once the air is out. Place your ear close to the bag and listen for the hissing sound of air reentering the bag. Pay particular attention to the area around the seal as well as the bag`s seams because leaks are most likely to spring in these areas.
A powerhead vacuum comes fitted with a separate motor in the floor head to drive the motorised brush and effectively eliminate allergen triggers. Proven to be more powerful than a regular floor head tool, it`s the best cleaning tool to help those living with allergies or asthma.
A senior test project leader stated that one of his top tips for lengthening a vacuum`s lifespan is “Don`t let the bag or bin get filled to the brim, which can clog the machine.” In addition to the extra work, dust escaping from a reused bag tends to go right back into the motor, causing damage.
Ducted vacuum systems work by attaching a vacuum cleaner motor to a large pipe via a wall inlet on the outside of your house. This pipe runs throughout your house, opening up into a number of different access points called inlets.
The answer is yes! There are replacement parts for most intercom systems such as M&S and NuTone that can be repaired in order to get the system up and working again.

My home has a central vacuum system hook-up but no vacuum installed. My friend upgraded his central system and gave me his Eureka Mega Boss central vacuum system and the accessories, including the pow
ANSWER : The power head requires 120 Volts. Some hoses have a receptacle in the handle for the power head plug, and the hose has a cord at the wall inlet end that plugs into a receptacle. Some hoses have a plug at the wall inlet end that plugs into a 120Volt receptacle built into the inlet. The hose plugs into this receptacle when you push the hose into the inlet. The power for this built-in receptacle is wired with line voltage when the system is installed.

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)

I purchased a utilitech 7-day digital in-wall timer #0141224. My house wires are two black wires and a green ground wire. The new timer has a w,g, r, and b, wires. My question is what wires do I connect. I found the black power wire from the house. I have no white wire in the switch box. Where would the red wire go? Thank you
ANSWER : Hi!!.
..

    .

  • The Green wire goes to ground,
  • .

  • The White wire is the neutral. (in this case is used to supply power to the clock.)
  • .

  • The Black wire will have to be connected to the incoming black hot wire and,
  • .

  • The Red wire will go to the black wire going to the light.

.In order for the timer to work, you’ll need to run a Neutral wire from a nearby outlet into the switch box to power the timer..
.Good Luck!! A HELPFUL – 4 THUMBS – rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.

While vacuuming the red light for the bag of the vacuum came on and the vacuum stopped. The bag was no where near full so I replaced it with a new bag – same problem. It vaccumes for a minute or then stops with bag light on. It is the correct bag for the machine – so what’s the problem?
ANSWER : I’m assuming this is the Epic 6500 or similar model.
.Detach the hose, turn vacuum on. If it runs, place palm of hand against inport hole. If it shuts off the problem is with either the control valve setting or the control valve assembly itself.
.For cvs, turn dial on top of vacuum all the way to the largest dot, and try above test again. If that doesn’t work, then it’s the CVA. It needs to be cleaned or replaced, which is an in shop job. Fro repair, take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store. I recommend a full clean and service to remove any dust/dirt from the motor, fan assembly, and other internal parts.
.
.Another problem, which relates to the dial setting, is that fine dust will quickly clog the pores of the bag, resulting in the machine “thinking” the bag is full. Turning the dial to the proper setting helps get the bag fuller. The middle setting is the normal setting, and is for areas without fine dust and sand.

I have a central vacuum system. When I disconnect the hose from a wall outlet the central canister does not shut down dispite my turning off the vacuum at the handle of the hose. The only way I can get the system to shut down is to pull the plug at the canister.

What gives?

Rob

ANSWER : What I’m hearing is the canister(Not the Powerhead) portion of the unit is running all the time unless you unplug it. this problem could be caused by a short in one of your low voltage lines running through the house. To determine that just unplug one/both low voltage lines from the canister, and plug it back into the recepticle. If it doesn’t start up then you figured out that it is in the house somewhere and not the unit. If it is in the house I would check for water in the valves, or you’re just gonna have to chase down the short. If the unit is still running with the low voltage wires disconnected then it is probably the relay on the board, which means you will need a new board unless you’re expereinced at soldering and want give it a try replacing just the relay. Which you’ll probably need a new board by the time you’re done anyhow. LOL
.
.Good Luck
