Fixing a broken or damaged vacuum power cord is another common vacuum repair that do-it-yourself-ers can easily handle at home. Home repairs on vacuums, tools, outdoor equipment, and other appliances can save you a truckload of money at the repair shop, and anyone can take on simple repairs like this one.
For a simple, straightforward way to repair a cord, fit it with a new plug. If you can`t find a new plug and wish to preserve the cord`s length, you could apply metal solder with a soldering iron for a stronger fix. Then, plug in your repaired cord to see that it works as well as a new one again.
Regardless if a cord is damaged by age, heavy use, pinching, or bearing too much weight (when an appliance is hung by its cord), a damaged cord increases the risk of electrical shock, fire, or electrocution, and should NOT be used. “The electric cord on your appliance contains a live wire that is securely insulated.
The damaged component — cord, plug, or both — should be replaced. Often, the hardest part of replacing an appliance cord is determining how the appliance comes apart so that you can remove the old cord and attach a new one. Sometimes all you have to do is remove the cover from a connection box.
It`s also important to pay attention to the vacuum cords. Tishko recommends checking them daily. Replacing a cord might cost $85 in labor and up to $130 for the new part.
You can take your time neatly wrapping the cable to reinforce it, but the best way to prevent any more damage is to wrap the split or fraying part of the cable several times with electrical tape, then work your way out from that spot. This immobilizes any breaks in the cable and helps prevent further damage.

Simply replacing a socket is easy to do. After ensuring the electrical current has been turned off in the work area, remove the outer cover of the plug from the base. This task should be very quick and easy with a screwdriver. Next, simply connect the cables to the device.

ANSWER : I dont know if you had your unit looked at yet but it sounds like the Power module is going. I repair the machines so I know some of the work.

How do I change the electrical cord? It has broken off right at the unit.
ANSWER : If you can disassemble the vacuum and get to where the wire goes into the machine, you can probably repair this.
.Once you locate the wire inside the machine, you either have to disconnect the wires from the switch at the terminals or if there is a place where there is room you may be able to use wire nuts to splice the wires together.
.Strip the cord coming into the machine, remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from all wires and connect matching colors.
.Use normal electrical cautions.
.Let me know how you do or if you have more questions?

I cannot charge my two year old electrolux pronto. I purchased a brand new hand held vacuum for it, but even the new one does not charge. When I plug in the cord nothing happens. If I turn on either the long handle or the portable unit within the long unit, the blue charging light comes on for a few seconds, then out. This tells me that the circuit is intact without a broken wire somewhere. I took it all apart carefully and could see nothing broken or out of place. On re-constructing it, it
ANSWER : It must be the charging transformer. We have already ruled out the vacuum unit. Unfortunately the transformer is not a serviceable part, and will need to be replaced.

Hooked everything up per directions. I plugged it in to the closest electrical outlet and nothing happened. The lights did not light up, the connected wall control and sensors leds do not light up. It appears the unit doesn’t have power. The electrical outlet socket is fine as everything else I plug into it works fine. I have tried every other electrical outlet available. The unit won’t power on from any outlet, and all of those outlets run other things, like power tools an refrigerators
ANSWER : Dear Davehibshman,

Firstly; dismantle the plug and replace the fuse with the same rating as the one you have just taken out. Replace the plug cover, put the plug into the socket and try again. If this doesnt work, there may be a problem with the internal fuse (if one is fitted). Two choices here, either refer this unit to a qualified service personnel/ the place where you got it from, or do the job yourself (which will save you a whole bunch of cash). In your circumstances, I would take it back to the place you got it and ask them to put the fault right, or replace the unit completely; if it is past its warranty or guarantee time, then get back to me with a make and model number of the unit, and I will give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve this.

Yours sincerely

I have a hoover 3000 i have not used in awhile, and since I removed a large rug, I would like to use it again on my slate floor. HOWEVER, I cannot get it to pick up ANY water in the water recovery unit……it is dry, dry, dry. I have put in a new filter, cleaned the nozzle unit, the scrubber , and reconnected both the recovery unit and the water unit several times, but to no avail. I would like to get a graut attachment a well as replacement part, but since I can’t get the basic unit to work, I
ANSWER : Have you made sure the plastic filter cover with the round hole in it that covers the filter is in place ( part # 59177096 ). This piece seems to get lost, and without it there is no pick-up. The other common problem is that the wheel assembly has been damaged. Look at the bottom of the Floormate. You will see a black plastic wheel assembly. There are two pegs at the rear attaching it to the base. If this piece has a crack in it where it attaches to the base, there will be no pick-up.

The power cord is split near the base unit
ANSWER : There are 2 screws on each side of the top cover of the Rainbow ‘E’ series vacuum cleaners located behind the decal windows. To get to the screws; use a non-scratching tool such as a plastic putty knife and pry out a corner of the plastic window, carefully pull out the plastic window and decal and remove the 2 screws. Repeat this process for both windows and then just lift up the top cover to expose the inside.
