Dyson motors are typically robust. Unless you do something crazy like use the max setting exclusively, it should exceed past the two-year manufacturer warranty. But in case the inevitable happens and the motor burns out, replacing it is simple. Fortunately, the process is simple, with simple tools like a screwdriver.
The Dyson DC07 was introduced in 2001 with brand new Root Cyclone technology.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
If you`re looking for a complete rebuild, you can expect to pay $100 or more. However, you may be able to get your Dyson repaired for free if the service is covered by the product`s warranty. According to Dyson, cordless vacuums have a two-year warranty while corded models have a five-year warranty.
Wash filters in cold water only
(don`t use detergent or wash in a dishwasher or washing machine). Rinsing under the water supply then gently squeezing the water out of the filter. Repeat until the water runs clear.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
The DC07 had a long production run from 2001 until 2008, and came in many different colour combinations.
There are two filters on a DC07, the first is the pre-motor filter, which are washable and is recommended by Dyson to be washed at least every 6 months.
If your vacuum makes a popping noise along with a pungent burning smell, a motor failure may be the cause. This will involve replacing the main body of the vacuum, which contains the motor. For help replacing the motor, call the Dyson help support number at 1-866-693-9766.
This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine continues to overheat, please refrain from using it until it has cooled down sufficiently and then carry out the performance checks.

If your vacuum cleaner had a strong acrid burning smell before it lost power then the chances are the motor has failed which will require a motor replacement.

How do you change a belt on a dyson DC07 – Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
ANSWER : Turn vacuum over so you can see the brush.
.Using a standard screwdriver, undo the three fasteners just behind the brush.
.Remove the base plate.
.Remove the belt.
.Remove roller brush.
.Place new belt on roller brush and center it in position.
.Feed belt through the hole, and return brush to position.
.Ensure the brush ends are located in the slots correctly.
.Pull the belt over the motor shaft.
.Rotate the brush a few times to ensure belt is centered and secure.
.Replace the base plate, tighten fasteners, and rotate the brush a few more times to make sure it turns properly and the belt isn’t caught.

Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor
