How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Open the cap on the handle and slide the wand upwards until both the wand and hose release from the machine. Press the button on the end of the hose and remove the wand. Press the button on the bin handle and remove the bin. Press the tab on the base of the hose to remove it from your machine.
Located the clip located at the base of the hose, where it connects to the bottom of the DC25. Pull back on the clip while you are pulling up on the hose to disconnect it from the unit.
Firmly push the red bin release button. The bin will slide down, cleaning the shroud as it goes and the bin base will open. The bin base won`t open if the red bin release button isn`t pushed down all the way. Press the red wand release button and pull the wand away from the bin.

How do I replace the part where the hose snaps into? It’s directly behind the switch plate.
ANSWER : Hi Eric,

Thank you for your inquiry. If you are referring to the flexible hose and where it connects to the machine (which is at the base), the entire duct assembly would require replacement. However, if you are referring to the wand handle, and where it connects to the machine behind the power button (or where the hose connects to the wand handle), part replacement is possible.

We would appreciate the opportunity to help you determine which part is necessary to resolve this problem. Please call us directly at 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 0800 298 0298 (UK) so we can provide further assistance.

My bissell proheat upright steam cleaner is spraying out through the attachments just fine, but will not spray to the floor when using upright. we’ve taken it apart to find that there is no water at all going through one of the hoses, but it appears the hose is connected behind the on/off and heat switches, we can’t seem to figure out how to get in there to replace that hose….any suggestions on how to access this?? just curious how you would get in to replace the hose, we know it is the hose..

The switch on our Hoover Windtunnel vacuum cleaner is not working. I have located the replacement part on your website…part#Ho-28161067, I’ve removed the wires from the switch. Is there any trick to actually removing and replacing the switch itself? It seems to be in there rather tight.
ANSWER : No, follow the directions to replacing the switch and you should be good. if you got the kit then splice the wires and replace them with the wires profied and the wire nuts, you should be good.

Parts replacement We have a Hoover Steam Vac that has a broken part #10 in your picture or Part # 37271035. Does this part cover the whole top section of the Vac? Is it hard to replace? Where can you get the best prices on Hoover parts? I have been on Hoovers website and they don’t even recognize this Steam Vac. which is hard to believe they don’t even recognize their own unit? Thanks Ray
ANSWER : This the hood or top cover. There some screws on the bottom as well as on the top, then it comes off.

I’m using Miele Medivac vacuum and I just sucked in a small plastic eye drop container by accident(I sometimes take off the brush part to **** in ‘small enough’ articles). And it is jammed in the part where the plastic hose connector bends. I think I can take it out if I can just disconnect the long necked plastic hose connector that connects the metal wand part and the hose part.

Is it designed to be disconnected or should I not even try it?

ANSWER : I love the fact that the filter bleeped out s.u.c.k ha ha!

Hose Problem The hose broke just above the cuff on the inlet end of the hose.  I found that the hose doesn’t thread into this cuff but appears to be heat bonded in some way. Can I get a replacement cuff or do I have to replace the hose?
ANSWER : Looks like you can just get the hose, part #38479-4, It should just screw into the adapter or it may be glued in.

Lost Part I have a 6.5 hp 18 gallon shop vac ultra pro. There is a part that goes into the inside of the tank and screws into the collection hose that attaches it to the tank. This part accidentally got thrown away when someone dumped it and now I cannot attach the hose to use the vacuum. Can this part be purchased separately?
ANSWER : I found a manual online for the shop vac and found the part number. Did locate part online.
.Thanks,

I have an old Shop Vac model 3331.5. This is a 12 gallon 1.5 hight peak shop vac with a detachable blower. After many years I decided to use the blower feature, but have lost the lost the manual. Question; how do I attach the hoses to the blower? The motor has that cap on it the direct the flow of air in one direction and the wide hoses do not fit over it. I may be missing a part, but I would think the directional cap would have to come off anyway.
ANSWER : Remove the cap that directs the air and insert the hose in there.
