Genie Company GV150 Wet/Dry Vacuum\015 I just asked a question a couple fo hours ago about the little paper liner inside, asked if I was supposed to remove the liner for wetsuction, but now I can’t figure out how to get the Vac out of blower mode and into suction mode!..There’s no switch to flip, as far as I can see, but there are two ‘holes’, a top one on the actual blower apparatus (which attaches to the top of the yellow ‘drum’ ) and a lower one that the hose fits neatly into. Maybe this has something to do with it?\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Wet and dry vacuum cleaners are ideal for cleaning floors as well as curtains. Floors and curtains collect a lot of dust and debris on a day-to-day basis. You can use wet and dry vacuum cleaners like ordinary vacuum cleaners to remove dust or debris from floors and curtains.
Wet/dry vacuums can handle: Floor Cleaning: Many wet/dry vacuums come with attachments for cleaning hardwood flooring and they can even be used as a standard vacuum for cleaning upholstery and curtains.
Shop vacs come with a more powerful motor than home vacuums because they need to suck up big and heavy objects. They have powerful lifting and suction capabilities. They can remove both liquid and dust particles with ease. Home vacs are less powerful as they only suck small particles.
A dry vacuum system does not use water to generate suction. A wet vacuum needs significant water flow to generate suction.
You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely. Liquids will damage filters, and you could even potentially ruin your vacuum if you suck up water before removing the filter.
An air blower uses a rotating impeller/rotor to create a vacuum. This vacuum causes air to rush into the blower. The air enters the centre of the impeller and is divided by the rotating blades. Centrifugal force increases the speed of the air and volume of the air stream within the housing.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
The bottom line is that Shop-Vac units shouldn`t be utilized without a filter. The vacuum will work without one, but it might not work better. Numerous other consequences might occur. You may create an even bigger mess than the one you needed to clean.
Not all messes are created equally, which is why a wet-dry vacuum that can handle wet or dry spills can be a useful tool for households big and small. “Wet-dry vacuums are extremely versatile and help to safely clean liquids and dirt in and outside your home,” says Leanne Stapf, COO of The Cleaning Authority.
Vacuuming can release and re-introduce pollutants back into your air, while washing the filters could potentially cause mold to grow if the filters are not dried fully. The only way to keep your filters fresh is to replace them regularly.
Most manufacturers recommend you change your filter on average every 3-6 months. However, it is recommended to change your filter even earlier depending on usage and allergy care.
The two main indicators to determine vacuum power performance are water lift and airflow. The water lift is measured in mmH2O, mbar or kPa. It represents the suction force and is the reference parameter for vacuuming liquids and heavy materials. The airflow is measured in m3/h or in l/s.
But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
Unlike regular vacuums, shop vacs are durable and capable of handling dust, debris, and heavy objects that need to be picked up. They have powerful suction and they do not throw dust and other irritants into the air the way that regular vacuums or sweeping might.
Water Can Ruin Your Vacuum Motor

If water invades the motor, you may have a completely failed vacuum cleaner. Again, not only will the water be inside your motor, but it will be carrying dirt and grime with it, making it unlikely (or at least very difficult) to restore the motor to a safe condition.

A wet/dry vacuum such as the Ridgid 14 Gal. 6.0-Peak HP NXT Wet Dry Vac with Auto Detail Kit paired with the Dustopper Separator can be used to clean the shop but also used to extract dust from small handheld shop tools. This type of setup is affordable and prolongs the longevity of the vacuum and air filter.
A blower uses high-pressure air jet flow to blow the leaves away, while a leaf vacuum uses high suction power to suck the leaves inside the collection bag.
A fan that sucks or draws the air toward it through airways or air pipes. The term generally used is exhaust fan.
Use Some Water

A little bit of water can do wonders for boosting a suction cup`s grip. Using warm water, rinse the whole cup so it softens it up. Shake the drops of water off the cup quickly and then put it up on the wall. That can often do the trick.

All vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head or tool, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and/or filter system and then out the exhaust port. This airflow is created by the vacuum motor, which also may be referred to as the suction motor.
Vacuum means the absence of all matter including air. As there is no air in the vacuum, air pressure will be zero.
Even though vacuum cleaners are great for removing dirt and dust from your home, it is necessary to maintain them properly to keep them doing an efficient cleaning job. Dirt accumulates over time, and if not removed regularly, it results in an unpleasant odour coming from your cleaner while you are using it.
As a rule, most of the smaller canister or shop-type vacs use high-speed vacuum producers. These tend to run at a very high rpm, which can reduce the vacuum`s lifespan to as little as 800 hours — or about 18 months, assuming you use your vacuum for about three hours each day.

Central vac our central vac will not work unless the main vac in the garage is switched on manualy…. its sucking fine but i have to switch it off at the main switch in the garage after i have used it normaly i just plug in the hose and vac away and it switches itself off we have just had cable installed with a fisher guy in the walls do you think that would be the problem thanks a lot
ANSWER : It is possible that the low voltage wiring that controls your central vacuum has been damaged during the cable work. You can check to see if the low voltage relay is working by shorting the two terminals together at the unit. Just disconnect the two small (18-22 gauge) wires from the unit and short across the terminals where the wires connect. If the unit comes on, the vacuum is fine, and it is most likely the low voltage control wires that have been damaged. It should be a pretty easy fix, if you can get to where the wires are located. They are probably just pulled apart at a joint. Good Luck!!

No suction I am getting no suction on my central vac at the vac. I do not believe that the piping is plugged up, the vacuum is not creating suction. What are the causes of no suction at the vacuum and how do I take the top half of the Nutone central vac off?
ANSWER : Use the guide at builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html to find the issue and solution. Most likely you need to test it without any filter and be sure the bottom of the unit is attached 🙂 To get access to the motors you need to unbolt the very top sides.

Hoover Windtunnel On/Off switch will not turn Off…Switch seems to work O.K. when pressed directly but not with handle switch…It will turn on but not off..Cam seems to be intact on switch actuator..How does switch come out? Thanx
ANSWER : Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.

Suction switch I used my new eureka optima once and now it has no suction. The suction only switch does not turn on. I’ve checked for blockage and can’t find any
ANSWER : Leave the thing off for about 30 mins, let it cool. Take that time to clean out all of pieces. Its a pretty simple machine, but has many suction points. Mine killed around Christmas time. Flippin pine needles got caught everywhere, clogged the whole works and it just died. Though she was toast, but its back in action now. I really like this vacuum for how much I paid for it.

I have an old Shop Vac model 3331.5. This is a 12 gallon 1.5 hight peak shop vac with a detachable blower. After many years I decided to use the blower feature, but have lost the lost the manual. Question; how do I attach the hoses to the blower? The motor has that cap on it the direct the flow of air in one direction and the wide hoses do not fit over it. I may be missing a part, but I would think the directional cap would have to come off anyway.
ANSWER : Remove the cap that directs the air and insert the hose in there.

Proteam Pro force 1500xp Upright vacuum… When I switch to the carpet setting I have no suction power but the beater bar is turning. If I switch back to the floors setting, the suction is excellent. Wondering if the problem is in the on/off switch?
ANSWER : Just undo the screws on the front part of the switch assembly, carefully check all the leads to the switch. Mine slide off all the time as the switch is poorly designed and subject to damage when the darn thing tips over (easily!!!) new switches are about 7.50 USD.
