How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Yes, you should keep cleaning the carpet until the water is clear. This will ensure that your carpets are clean and free of dirt, dust, and other allergens. However, you should be careful not to scrub too hard or use too much water. Doing so can damage the carpet and lead to more stains in the future.
Remove the hose wand from the base, and check for a clog in the wand or base. Next, use a long, narrow object such as the crevice tool or a broomstick to clear away obstructions along the length of the hose.
These filters can be hand washed in warm water. A mild detergent may also be used. Close the lid and return the tank back to the vacuum. Press firmly until you hear a “click”.
Fill clean water tank with hot water to top water fill line. Remove clear cap and foil from bottle of formula and insert onto gasket of clean water tank. Squeeze bottle until the easy fill line on the tank is reached.
The ProHeat® Carpet Cleaner has a built-in heater to heat tap water up to 25 degrees hotter for optimum cleaning.
Our Carpet Cleaning Formulas, including the Wash & Protect, Wash & Refresh and Wash & Remove ranges, can be used in all upright carpet cleaners – even in non-BISSELL machines. The Spot Cleaning formulas are only for use in BISSELL portable/handheld carpet cleaners or Spot Cleaners.
Most cleaning methods simply can`t remove all the old hair, dust mites, dirt, soapy residues and chemicals. After the cleaning crew leaves, the gunk remaining in your carpeting acts like a magnet for a whole new layer of grime.
It is recommended that you try to stay off the freshly cleaned carpets until they are dry – about 6 hours. If you MUST walk over your damp carpet before it is dry use EXTREME caution. Where you transition from carpet to another hard surface, like tile or hardwood, can be very slippery.
Open windows – air flow can help to improve drying times and opening windows can help, unless it is very humid outside. Use floor fans – running floor fans in areas with damp carpet will help to move the humid air created by evaporation out of the space, and dry the carpet more quickly.

How do i use my bissell 7920 – Bissell 7920 ProHeat Pro-Tech Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum
ANSWER : The 7920 is a great little carpet shampooing vacuum. Look up manual information for detailed assembly and starting/breakdown procedures. Make certain that the carpet/floor has been vacuumed previous to cleaning with the shampooer! The small nozzle opening will get clogged with as little as a toothpick or cheerio! Step on the rear release arm pedal and drop the handle down to the floor, Pull up on the resevoir bucket handle and place the handle of the resevoir back down to open the top of the tank and fill the bladder with hot water. Replace bucket top and place bucket back into vacuum. Raise the handle until it clicks into place. Fill on board soap/shampoo dispenser by lifting out of chamber on unit and fill with appropriate Bissell or upright shanpoo cleaner. Replace unit and make certain the top is tight. Plug unit in and turn on both vaccuum switch and preheat water switch and wait approx. 2 minutes to get water hot enough to proceed with cleaning. Start by rollling cleaner onto carpet and engage trigger approx 2-3′ pathway away from you and then release trigger and draw vacuum /shamppoooer back over wetted area, repeat without using water again unless heavier traffic area. Do not over wet area draw unit back and forth a few times until water runs clear thru the front clear window. Proceed to make another path along side cleaned area and so on.
.Once you hear the water run out or you have finished cleaning an area then shut of heater and vacuum. release handle with foot pedal release and lift out bucket and pour out dirty water and rinse area/tank /resevoir etc. You should also clean the small red filter in the resevoir of any debris by popping out and replacing. Also, there is an onboard filter under the clear window (where spinner is located) . unscrew clear top , take out spinner device and pull out small plastic screen and rinse or blowout. Clean also the front clear cover if there is debris, by rinsing off with sprayer or wiping clean. You may also find that you have to take off the clear plastic hood window, by unscrewing two screws on either side of nozzle opening (top ) and rinse out as well. Do not, get water under unit into motor area. Place unit upright and in a warm place.. Do not let freeze if in climate that is known to freeze. Good luck cleaning!!
