Technically, yes, you can change a cambelt yourself. However, the process will be a long one, as it involves deconstructing many components of your car and putting them back together correctly.
Since you`ll likely only replace your serpentine belt once during the life of your car, it`s generally recommended to take your car to a professional mechanic. You can do a lot of damage to your vehicle if you drive on the road with an improperly installed serpentine belt.
Luckily, changing a vacuum belt is a very simple repair on most vacuum cleaners. Vacuum owners should never have to take their machine to a shop just for a belt replacement. The first step in this (and any) part replacement is to accurately order the needed part for the repair.
Insert your belt through the left-side loops first.

Take the end of your belt and insert it into your belt loops with the loop on the front left side of your pants. Thread the strap end through each loop, pulling the belt through as you go. Once you reach the last loop, buckle your belt.

The engine drive belt is located on the front of your engine and is used to rotate the engine accessories. The belt is driven by the engine crankshaft, and while the engine is running, the belt turns with the crankshaft, which in turn rotates any pulley that the belt wraps around.
You would need significant mechanical knowledge to change a timing belt yourself. The main challenge is accessing the old timing belt, which – depending on the model – may involve the removal of fan/drive belts; front motor mount; water pump pulley; timing belt cover; crankshaft pulley; and idler pulley.

How do you change the belt – Dirt Devil M086700 Vision Bagless Upright Vacuum
ANSWER : On the bottom of the vacume you should see about 4 screws ( philips ) that hold the plate in place, remove the screws and plate and this will expose the motor shaft, belt and roller ( you should also see the broken belt there two ) — pop out the roller ( pull straight up ). put new belt onto the motorspindle and then onto the roller, snap roller back into place ( note: on the edges of the roller it is somewhat keyed to only fit into the vacume a certain way ), replace the the plate and screws and you are good to go. also while you are getting dirty — clean the air filter and examine the hose between the floor roller and the suction hose for dirt build up and debris.
