Hoover U6616-900 WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum\015 The cord on my Hoover WindTunnel upright vacuum is damaged from having been run over while vacuuming. I purchased a replacement power cord, agitator brush, belt, and filters from the Hoover web site.I have installed the new brush, belt, and filters. I’m ready to install the replacement cord, but I can’t figure out how to access the interior part of the vacuum! I tried removing many different screws but none of them seemed to give me access to the necessary area. Any help would be appreciated!\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Fixing a broken or damaged vacuum power cord is another common vacuum repair that do-it-yourself-ers can easily handle at home. Home repairs on vacuums, tools, outdoor equipment, and other appliances can save you a truckload of money at the repair shop, and anyone can take on simple repairs like this one.
It`s also important to pay attention to the vacuum cords. Tishko recommends checking them daily. Replacing a cord might cost $85 in labor and up to $130 for the new part.
The damaged component — cord, plug, or both — should be replaced. Often, the hardest part of replacing an appliance cord is determining how the appliance comes apart so that you can remove the old cord and attach a new one. Sometimes all you have to do is remove the cover from a connection box.
Regardless if a cord is damaged by age, heavy use, pinching, or bearing too much weight (when an appliance is hung by its cord), a damaged cord increases the risk of electrical shock, fire, or electrocution, and should NOT be used. “The electric cord on your appliance contains a live wire that is securely insulated.
Always replace if yours has any damage to the insulation, or at the first sign of intermittent power. You can buy the Henry cable on our site, and fit using the instructions or video below. This is a fairly simple job but take your time and if in doubt always recruit the help of a professional.

WindTunnel technology and Multi-Cyclonic filtration lifts and removes surface debris and deep down embedded dirt with no loss of suction. The 25ft. power cord automatically retracts in seconds so you never have to wrap a cord again.
Retractable Cord Reels
They use a spring mechanism to provide the retraction force. As the cord is uncoiled and pulled out for use, tension builds up on the steel torsion spring. Once the electrical power is no longer needed, the stored energy in the torsion spring is released, retracting the cord back to the reel.

How to replace power cord on Hoover WindTunnel upright vacuum
ANSWER : The aforementioned solutions probably never even attempted this fix on this model. The handle does NOT need to come off. but the 5 screws on the front housing DO: 2 above the light and 3 below it. Then to get the colored housing off you need to access 2 screws on the underside that are beneath the agitator roller. To do that, obviously the 4 screws holding the bottom plate need to come off too. Here’s a link to a schematic that might help as you attempt to do this, (assuming that you still do!) http://www.elkypro.com/hoops2005/vacuum_parts/hoover/U5461-900.html
Once you have the main body housing cover off, then you can access the 2 screws atop of each trunnion cover that holds the motor assembly cover halves together. If you’ve made it this far, then gently pry apart the motor halves keeping even as yo do. Now you can see all the wiring necessary to cut and splice. Happy cord replacing! As for me, I am headed for the store, as I am not so sure I can remember how to get the darn thing put back together. But it was fun taking it apart!

I replaced the entire wand assembly and it worked great for a year or so and now it’s doing the same thing again. I was told to keep the power switch on the handle set to off when connecting the power brush attachment or it will bu
ANSWER : This is from the prongs not making a good connection causing an arch inside the plugg causing what looks like rust on the plugg. I would try snugging up the connection by squeezing the female section to get a better connection on the prongs when it is plugged in together.
Replacing a fraayed and twisted power cord on a Hoover windtunnel upright
ANSWER : Ok so I took this vaccum apart completely except for the electrical and motor systems. It seems to me that without dismantling both of these systems on the vaccum you can’t replace the power cord. And I wouldn’t recommend taking them apart unless you know what you are doing since replacing the power cord seems to require cutting the old power cord and soldering the new one onto the old terminals. All in all its probably easier to get a new vaccum altogether.

Replacing Power Cord Kenmore Progressive Upright
ANSWER : That actually sounds correct, if it’s the model I’m thinking of. As long as you’re talking about connecting to the wires that are held in by the wire nuts you should be good to go.

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)
