How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

What Thread Does It Need? Your normal sewing machine thread can be used in an overlocker. You might think it takes special thread because you see the giant cones on the machines, but it`s just a larger quantity of sew-all thread.
The overlock uses much more thread than a conventional machine, so plan ahead. Cone thread—more than 1,000 yards per cone—is usually less expensive than regular sewing thread. A low-twist nylon thread that allows seams to stretch is also available.
Tension settings:

The standard tension is 4. Janome recommends a range of 2 – 6 for straight stitches.

As a general rule, I recommend taking your overlocker to a certified dealership annually for a clean, oil and adjust.
The Janome machines only need a tiny drop of oil placed on the wick that sits under the bobbin case, for all other lubricating it has to be serviced by a dealer. Some members who are a bit isolated, AND have excellent dealers, have shown by their dealers how to self maintain their machines for the simpler tasks.
Best Air Threader Overlocker

It`s no secret that Janome machines are well-built and well-loved. This Janome AT2000D Overlocker is no different. It`s just as easy to thread as any other air threading machine, but not as expensive.

Overlocker needle tip #10: Replace needles regularly for ensured stitch quality (8-10 hours).
The needles are just as easy to thread, using the built-in needle threader which slides left and right, allowing the user to thread the required needle. More about the Janome AirThread 2000D Overlocker at Janome Australia.
Overlockers differ from sewing machines in that they`re not suitable to be used on their own when stitching together a garment. They work best in tandem with a sewing machine to complement the more versatile work that sewing machines can perform.
The overlock stitch is a combination of a straight stitch and a zigzag. It sews backwards and forwards in a straight line, but between every set of straight stitches, it sews a zigzag. If done correctly, this resembles serging, which is how most store-bought clothes are sewn.
Our Overlock Threads strength is not high, they are of regular tenacity. They are made of polyester net-thread with no twist, there by saving cost. Comparing it with the sewing threads, Overlock Threads have a lower strength. This is unlike sewing threads made of spun polyester with a twist.
The overlocker will not be able to form a thread chain if threaded in the wrong order. If one thread breaks, take out the others and re-thread in this order. Ensure the thread is actually between the tension discs. Make sure the thread is in all the thread guides.
A correct thread tension looks smooth and flat on both sides of the seam. The needle and bobbin threads interlock midway between the surfaces of the material.
So we`ll be talking only about the top thread tension since that`s where you`d usually make the adjustments. The dial settings run from 0 to 9, so 4.5 is generally the `default` position for normal straight-stitch sewing. This should be suitable for most fabrics.
Polyester thread has a small amount of bounce and is therefore more suitable for use with stretch fabrics. Polyester is also favoured for those making children`s clothes and it`s less likely to snap and is available in the widest range of colours.
The majority of overlockers have four spools that are threaded into the machine, with two threads passing through a pair of needles. The three right hand threads finish the raw edge of the fabric.
Just like your sewing machines, your overlocker needs regular cleaning and oiling. Unlike your sewing machine, knowing the proper time to do this may vary more from person to person.
The rule of thumb is that if you hear squeaking or clinging and see build up, then it is time for a refresh! First, unplug your machine.
Conventional Oil |Machinery Lubrication but to summarize, synthetic oil is a man-made oil with a specific purpose in mind. Synthetic oil adheres better to metal and provides better lubrication. Mineral oil also can be used with good results.
In general it would always be advisable to start threading the upper/right looper 1st. Secondly would be the lower/left looper. Then on to the needles from the inside/right and then to the outside/left needle which is last.
Although you can create knit garments on a sewing machine, you can also make them using an overlocker. However, I`ve often heard people say they only use their overlocker for finishing seams.
Long answer: No, you don`t need an overlocker, but it gives a more professional finish to many clothes. If you make clothes that you plan to sell, then I would say it is essential! An overlocker creates a stitch that trims and wraps the raw edges of your project and can sew a seam at the same time.
As I mentioned, overlockers can use universal, ballpoint size 130/705 H or 130/705 H-SUK, or HAx1 SP super stretch needles. With that said, for optimal results, go with Schmetz ELx705 as these needles are designed to work specifically with overlockers, not regular sewing machines.
Using a 3-thread overlock is a great way to overcast and finish raw edges of woven fabrics. A 2-thread option uses fewer threads, is less bulky and is good for finishing edges. The 4-THREAD OVERLOCK is the strongest construc- tion stitch. It uses both loopers, as well as both nee- dles.

.Here’s a link to a very helpful video that shows you step by step on how to access and replace the belt on your machine. When the brushes stop spinning, but the rest of the machine works fine, this is a tell-tale sign that your belt has gone bad.

I’m looking for a manual in English for the Janome JR 1012. I live in Holland and just bought this machine new yesterday. I was told the instructions were also in Englis, but the’re not. I want to keep the machine if I can get the manual online, other wise I will have to take it back to the shop 🙁

Mary Mewha

To start with, the manual is not easy to get for this manual. The only other way rather than contacting Janome is to request the manual at :-

Other than this, you could write an email to Janome. I know,it’s hard but these are the only options.

Note – The amount stated in the Bargain Box website is in Australian dollars and they would ship the manual.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ‘ Fixya ‘ and have a nice day!!
