How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Check that the brush bar is clean and not damaged
If the cleaner becomes noisy or starts vibrating, it may be because some debris has got tangled around the brush roll or agitator situated in the bottom of the cleaner.
Worn out bearings on the brush roll will make a vacuum much noisier. This is a good time to check them after cleaning and inspecting the brush roll. Try spinning each bearing by hand. Some brush rolls have only one bearing on the roll, and the other bearing is in the head where the roll is mounted.
Should the brush not rotate freely there may be debris tangled around the ends of the brush, carefully remove any obstructions or replace the brush with a new one. We recommend that you fit a new belt and brush once per year to keep your Reactive vacuum working efficiently.
Carpet cleaner smells like burning and may be caused by overheating debris in the machine or a malfunctioning motor. To resolve the issue, unplug the cleaner, inspect for blockages, clean the filters, and check for damaged components. If the problem persists, contact a professional or the manufacturer for assistance.
If your machine is making an abnormally loud noise it is likely due to the belt slipping or the brush roll being incorrectly installed, follow these steps to resolve: Turn off and unplug machine. Use a Phllips-head screwdriver to remove 3 screws, 2 in the belt cover and 1 on the brush roll mount. Remove belt cover.
The most common causes of clicking in washing machines are door latches and foreign objects stuck somewhere in the drum. Once you`ve made sure there are no foreign objects and have tightened the legs and components, your clicking is probably caused by a faulty part.
Sound enclosures, noise reduction blankets, sound curtain noise barriers, or sound barrier walls are a few options to consider when reviewing noise reduction materials. If the vacuum pump is indoors, a noise enclosure would be the recommended solution.
Clear the brush roll of any hair and debris and inspect by placing it on its end and spin. The brush should spin freely. If it doesn`t spin; it may be time to replace.
The brush roll or its bearings may be clogged with hair, threads or dirt. Make sure they are clean and the roll spins. The belt may also have slipped because it was loose. Check the fit of the new belt when it is installed.
One of the main reasons why carpets smell after a deep clean is the underlay. Basically, this part of the carpet padding is not exposed to direct light or air, so it takes a lot more time to dry properly. And you know what excess moisture leads to? Precisely – mould and mildew smell after carpet cleaning.
Most experts will recommend you invest in a carpet underlay to maximize your carpet`s soundproofing capabilities. This is simply an extra layer of material that goes between your carpet and the floor, and it is made of material that is known to be successful at blocking airborne sounds.
Typical reactions to new carpet VOCs and PFCAs include headaches, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, and asthmatic reactions. The aroma that`s making you feel unwell is mostly down to the odor of 4-PC, which is an eye and respiratory-tract irritant that may also affect the central nervous system.
The most common reason your washer makes banging sounds during the spin cycle is that an unbalanced load has thrown it out of whack. When you put your dirty clothes in your machine, make sure to distribute them evenly in the drum. Heavy items mixed with lighter ones can cause it to spin unevenly.
Washing machines that are not balanced can result in loud thumping or knocking sounds, especially when operating at high speeds. To remove these loud noises, check the feet to ensure that the washing machine is evenly balanced and resting on a flat surface.
Introduction: Duct Tape Vaccuum Belt
Have you ever broken a belt on your vaccuum and didn`t have a chance to buy a new one? You can make your own out of duct tape for a TEMPORARY fix. This belt is for TEMPORARY USE ONLY, you might damage your vaccuum if you overuse this belt.

If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
Luckily, changing a vacuum belt is a very simple repair on most vacuum cleaners. Vacuum owners should never have to take their machine to a shop just for a belt replacement. The first step in this (and any) part replacement is to accurately order the needed part for the repair.
Loose or Worn Serpentine Belt
If the belt is slipping or has become damaged, it can cause excess friction and heat, which can result in a burnt rubber smell.

Hi folks,
my beam vacuum makes a very loud roaring noise quite often.
the problem started when i was vacuuming up a quantity of vermiculite from my chimney.
i think i overloaded the vacuum i think and it made this loud roaring noise.

ANSWER : If the filter bag is bad and didn’t trap all of the dust, then it got into your motor, so you may have a problem with your motor now.

Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled V Belt
ANSWER : I had this same problem with the V belt on my Hoover Vaccuum..
.There are three (3) basic things that will cause the brush roll not to spin..
.1. When handle is upright, brush roll is OFF..2. When switch is set for HARD surface, brush roll is OFF..3. Broken/worn FLAT belt or V Belt, brush roll will not spin.

.I noticed that the brush roll was not spinning when my vacuum was set for CARPET. After removing the cover I noticed that the V belt was loose, I thought the belt was worn so I purchased a correct replacement belt and installed it, but the new belt was also loose and when I turned the large flat belt pulley it did not turn the V belt pulley at the same time..
.I double checked the surface setting and I had the vacuum switch set for carpet, but still when I released the handle out of the upright position the brush roll would still not spin..
.My aggravation finally led me to this posting on FixYa’s website..
.The first thing I did was checked the screw to the left of the V belt as suggested by ejmjr5 and this did nothing to solve the problem or create more tension on the V belt, even when the upright handle was not in the upright position..

.VOILA, the brush roll now spins correctly even though the V belt seams to be too loose for the pulley..
.You really have to force the switch into the CARPET setting. Be sure that you hear the switch/nob click into place..

When I vacuum w/ the brush control in the on position it make a really loud noise, almost like a grinding sound. I have looked at it and nothing seems to be wrong, but I notice that the pin that engages the belt seems to vibrate a bit, possibly creating the noise. It started when I accidentally got part of a plastic grocery bag caught in the brush. Could it have stretched a belt? Nothing is caught any other place and it only makes the noise when the brush in in the on position.
ANSWER : Yes, the belt could have been stretched and is now vibrating and hitting other parts and creating a noise if much of the bag got caught under the belt. If you have another belt for this vacuum, please put it on and see if the noise stops. If it does, then problem solved, if not let me know and we can try something else and you can send a picture or video to me of the problem.

I have gone exactly by the manual instructions and made sure the belt and end caps were on correctly, but the bristles still rub the back and it makes a very loud noise. .I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.The Royal Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum has just bushings in the ends of the brushroll and not bearings and once the bushings are bad I suggest that you replace the brushroll in the vacuum and put a new belt on the vacuum as well. There is no way to repair the bushing s in order to it to work properly. The suggested belt change is every 4 to 6 months and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. Suggest looking at a local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover bagless cannister 3765 – belt on power head slips off spindle. bought new belts – same problem. is this a design problem or can it be fixed? I don’t want to take it to a repair shop 100 miles away and have them just put on a new belt. saw idea of smaller belt – what number? couldn’t find suggested royal 104425001 belt.
ANSWER : I would not recommend a smaller belt. You will only wear the motor. This model series power nozzle needs to have a metal clip installed near the belt on the brush roller housing. I know that most of them left the factory without it. Remove the cover to see if one is ther. if not have your dealer send you a clip or a housing with one on it.

Windtunnel belt I have a new Hoover Windtunnel canister. The belt keeps coming off. It happened a couple weeks ago (several times after putting the belt back on) so I assumed I might need a new belt as it might have dried out at the store. I ordered new belts and today I used it for about an hour and the belt came off again, twice. There doesn’t seem to be anything to hold the belt on the stem as it seems to slip off. I have tried it centered, to the left and to the right….can you help. I am v
ANSWER : I’ve successfully used a compatible belt – Royal 104425001 .It’s still new, but for the time being at least – it works.

I have vax 1800 pet vacuum. It is picking up fine but very noisy. I have replaced the belt in the past and the noise started then. On looking at it closely today I noticed brushbar was getting worn where it slots in at the side so I suspect it wasn't fitted in properly after replacing the belt. Now in properly but still making terrible noise. There is a bit of a rubbing noise when brushbar moved round. Do you think the brushbar needs replaced? How do I lubricate the bearings to try that bef
ANSWER : Spray the end of the brush-bar were the bearings are with WD-40 if that solves the problem replace the bearing when it starts screeching..
