The first vacuum cleaner in action

To conduct the miraculous cleaning, long hoses were fed through windows, the petrol-powered motor (and later electric engine) was started and air was drawn by suction from the hose and nozzles through a filter.

If you want to clean your carpet without a machine sprinkle some powder carpet cleaner before you vacuum. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes before vacuuming it up.
The Vax 6131T is capable of dry vacuuming, carpet cleaning and can also pick up spills.
The History of Vacuum Cleaners

McGaffey invented the first vacuum cleaner, called the “Whirlwind,” in Chicago in 1868. However, the Whirlwind was difficult to use because the operator had to turn a crank while pushing it across the floor manually.

The ancestor to our modern vacuum cleaner was a “carpet sweeper” invented in 1860 by Daniel Hess of West Union, Iowa. The non-motorized machine used a complex system of bellows for suction, and spinning brushes to pick up dirt.
The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Cleaner does not heat the water itself. Please fill the clean water tank with hot tap water. The use of hot water as opposed to cold, significantly improves cleaning performance.
Although Hoover of course recommend their own detergent, we are using a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water, with a few drops of essential oil (tea tree oil) in it to improve the fragrance. This has worked well for us and is very inexpensive.
One most certainly can use a carpet cleaner to clean a couch. Carpet cleaners usually come with an upholstery attachment that is gentle enough to clean the sofa and get into all the nicks and folds. The same cleaning solution can be used; the only determining factor is the sofa`s material.
Push a broomstick through the hose to force any large clogs out. Take the end of the broomstick and feed it through the hose. Push the stick in slowly so you don`t accidentally break or puncture the hose. If there is a large clog in your hose, the broomstick will force it out from the other end.
The short answer is that you should not use vinegar for carpet cleaning. There is truth to the idea you can use vinegar as a natural disinfectant for cleaning but it cannot remove dirt or soil from a surface or from carpet.
The ideal temperature range for carpet cleaning is between 100°F to 150°F. At this temperature, there would be enough heat to accelerate the chemical reaction during cleaning, but it will not be hot enough to create problems with the carpet or the carpet cleaner.
No. While it does act as a vacuum for water, you would get a giant mess if using as a regular vacuum without the water running through it.
Unlike regular household vacuums, wet/dry vacuums have the capacity to clean all types of messes, including saw dust, large scraps from home improvement projects, and, most importantly, even standing water. Removing the water from your home quickly is integral to preventing further damage to your home.
Some of the best vacuum cleaners come with a standard attachment (like an extension wand or upholstery tool) that will help you get to those hard-to-reach spots or smaller nooks where crumbs and debris get trapped.
First, check that the cord is properly connected to the vacuum cleaner (again, this is surprisingly easy to overlook) and that there are no splits in the rubber. If the cord is damaged, it will need immediately repairing or replacing. The on/off switch can break over time and need replacing.
Replace the Brush Belt

If the vacuum is still hard to push, tilt it back far enough that you can inspect the moving brush while the vacuum is running. Be careful to avoid getting too close to the moving parts. If you see that the brush is not turning, that means you will need to replace the brush belt.

Laundry Detergents aren`t Formulated for Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning solutions are specifically formulated to clean and not damage the machines they`re used in and the material they`re treating. Laundry soap is designed to be used in washing machines to clean clothing.

You are leaving too much foam in the carpet

Dirt particles stick to it, and it is this that makes your water dirty when it is sucked up. If your carpet cleaning solution is too foamy, or you leave foam in the carpet, more dirt will be attracted to it.

Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

To fix a clog in the hose, feed one end into a garbage bag, and poke the other end with the back of a mop pole, until you push the clog material out into the garbage bag. To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.
Carpet should be professionally cleaned at intervals of 6 months up to 2 years to ensure longevity and cleanliness. Under this type of maintenance schedule, carpet can easily last 20 years or more.

lost my user manual never used it to pick up water. need to know how to puit it in wet mode i want to clean the dirty water out of my pool.
ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.
.2. When picking up large amounts of liquid
.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off
.airflow. When this happens, turn off
.the vac, unplug the power cord, and
.empty the drum. You will know that the
.float has risen because vac airflow
.ceases and the motor noise will
.become higher in pitch, due to
.increased motor speed.
.IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage
.to the vac do not run motor with float
.in raised position
