How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Air Is Stuck in Pump or Hose

If the cleaner is still not spraying despite the water and detergent tanks being full, there may be a bubble of air stuck in the pump or the hose. To fix this, you need to turn the cleaner on and lower the hose down to the floor.

Description. The Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner features high velocity suction that removes dirty water and detergent, leaving carpet revitalized.
Most carpets typically need 6-10 hours to dry completely. However, it could take up to 24 hours to dry depending on the time of year your carpets are cleaned, and the air circulation, humidity and temperature in your home.
How Steam Cleaners Work. Water is heated past the boiling point and forced out as pressurized steam through a nozzle, brush, or other attachment. The vapor loosens dirt and kills dust mites, mold, staph, and other allergens and harmful bacteria. No suction is required, since the high-heat moisture dries quickly.
If the product is not making steam please check that there is water in the tank fitted at the top. If the product is not making steam please check that there is water in the tank fitted at the top. Pull the tank up and fill it up with water. Please do not add any cleaning solutions to the water in the tank.
If you notice that your Hoover shampooer or carpet cleaner doesn`t spray water or the brush roll doesn`t spin, then typically you need to replace your turbine assembly. This is another very common repair need for these shampooers because the turbine is air-driven.
A steam cleaner uses actual steam to clean various types of surfaces, and this steam can damage carpet fibers and remove the protection. A carpet cleaner is designed to force a mixture of hot water and cleaning solution into the carpet to clean deep down.
Fill the tank with water; if you live in an area with hard water, using distilled water in the steamer`s tank will yield a better result. Select the appropriate attachment for the task at hand, and affix it to the machine. Turn the steamer on and allow it to heat up before beginning to clean.
Steam Cleaning

Using carpet extraction is probably the best deep-cleaning method you can use on your carpets. Because it combines hot water with chemicals, it cleans much more than just the surface of your carpet-it can remove dirt and debris that have sunk deep into your carpet.

Heat helps to loosen and lift stains from fabric without causing damage to the material. It also accelerates drying time so that moisture doesn`t settle in and cause mold or mildew growth. Cleaner. Steam cleaners can also use a cleaning agent or detergent to accelerate the removal of stains.
Carpets that still look dirty or have stains reappear after cleaning is a result of something called wicking. This is due to over wetting the carpet, the backing, and pad which causes them to return back to the surface once dry.
As the water slowly evaporates and the carpet dries, the residual soap and chemicals dry into the carpet fibers. It is this residue that gives the carpet a stiff, sticky, hard or “crunchy” texture.
No matter what your couch is made of, you should be vacuuming it regularly. (Every week or two is ideal.) Use your vacuum cleaner`s crevice tool to get into tight corners, and the upholstery attachment or soft brush attachment for the couch`s surfaces. Lift each cushion up to reveal the dust and crumbs underneath.
We recommend rinsing your carpets after cleaning to remove any solution residue.
You get the best results after eliminating dirt and dust from the surface of your carpet. If the carpet is not vacuumed before steam cleaning, your carpet will look clean on the surface but remain dirty underneath. The steam cleaner cannot get rid of loose soil that is embedded deep inside the carpet fibers.
Ultimately, running your vacuum over your carpets after a professional deep clean is great but remember to do it only after your carpet is completely dry. Vacuuming your carpet when it`s still damp could cause dirt to be transferred from your vacuum cleaner, so patience does pay off.
Sweep and Vacuum

It`s imperative that you vacuum the floor before steaming. You could alternatively sweep if you don`t have a vacuum. But good suction power will pull lint, dust, and other surface debris from the cracks, preventing them from dirtying the mop pad. Once vacuumed, your floor is ready to steam mop.

Although some carpet steamers and cleaners have a suction mechanism to remove the cleaning fluid and water from your carpet after cleaning the area, you should only use them for steaming or cleaning a carpet and never use them like a vacuum cleaner.
Anything with fabric or upholstery needs frequent vacuuming. Dust settles deep into the fibers, holding onto pollutants, bacteria, and unwanted smells. Plan to vacuum carpet and area rugs at least twice per week, even if they don`t look dirty.
I boil the water and pour it in carefully—boiling hot. Most home cleaners do not use the power of boiling water, but I do. I have done this for 14 years now, and without any problem.
After you get out your carpet cleaner, fill the clean tank to the line with hot (not boiling) tap water. Hot water does a better job cleaning than cold but, if you boil it, you run the risk of melting parts of your carpet cleaner.
Laundry Detergents aren`t Formulated for Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning solutions are specifically formulated to clean and not damage the machines they`re used in and the material they`re treating. Laundry soap is designed to be used in washing machines to clean clothing.

Mix 4 oz. Simple Green per 4 oz. water into your carpet cleaning detergent tank. For carpet cleaning machines without a separate solution tank, mix a 1:10 ratio of Simple Green to water.
When choosing between steam cleaning and shampooing your carpet, you really can`t go wrong with both, but steam cleaning would be the better option. It removes more unseen pests and dirt, and can handle heavy-duty cleaning without making you wait long for drying.

I used my Hoover FloorMate, SpinScrub Hard Floor Cleaner for the first time today. My intent was to clean the grout in my kitchen/family room floor. Since the water was dirty I know it cleaned the grout but I was only so-so pleased with the results. Any hints? What about the grout solution? Do you mean I can only use the Hoover product?
ANSWER : The Hoover model 800 has seperate brush assembly to do grout. The 500 model (yours) has only the one hight brushes so other means must be taken to do grout. I have a 500 and all tile floors and I’m bumbed too.

I have a new Hoover Dual V steam vac that I bought from a neighbor who only used it once. I have only used it once since then and it worked great. This time, because I am pregnant, I bought some non-toxic cleaner that was much thicker than the very watery Hoover soap. This vac has a wash option and a rinse option. The rinse option works (sprays and sucks properly), but the wash cycle doesn’t at all-neither soap nor water comes out. Nothing comes out, but it still sucks. I took everything o
ANSWER : There’s a powerful electric motor attached to a fan that sucks in air.Did you checked and cleaned that motor. If the dirt is got stuck up ion the motor then the motor will not spin as per its regular speed. For rinsing the motor spin on one cycle but for washing it spins on reverse side. Its a dual spin motor. If its getting blocked on other side then that particular function will not work..————————.Empty the recovery tank of the Hoover SteamVac if the cleaner fails to pick up dirt. Once the tank is full, many Hoover models have an automatic shutoff that stops the cleaner. If this does not resolve the pickup issue, check the hoses of the machine and remove any blockages.———-
Examine the water tank if water does not dispense from the SteamVac. It could be empty and in need of a refill, or you may not have locked the dispenser firmly in place. The detergent tank should also be looked at and filled if empty.———-
.Determine if the valve cap is clogged if detergent won’t dispense from the Hoover cleaner. To remove clogs, unscrew the cap and then place it in hot water for at least 20 minutes. Once dry, screw the cap back in.—–
.Clean the filter screen at the bottom of the vacuum cleaner if the brushes fail to rotate while in use. To access the filter screen, place the machine on its side and pull the tab at the base of the unit. Wipe off the debris with a clean cloth.————
