How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
First, check to make sure the clean tank has water and/or the water & formula mixture in the tank. If your tank is empty, this could be the reason your machine is not spraying. You will need to fill your clean tank again. Reseat the tank and ensure it sits snug on the machine.
Inspect the vacuum hose for any small holes, kinks, or cracks. Any cracks or holes will decrease the amount of suction in the hose and will not allow the carpet extractor to properly remove liquid from the floor. The hose will need to be replaced if there is damage.
In Line Filter Assembly (includes Cap & Filter) for ProHeat 2X Upright Carpet Cleaners (equipped with In Line Filters) and Lift-Off Upright Carpet Cleaners. Fits in the top portion of the foot of the Carpet Cleaner, under where the Dirty Water Tank sits on the foot.
There could be several factors as to why your BISSELL PowerFresh steam mop is not producing steam. First, check to make sure the unit is plugged in and is in a working outlet. Next, check to make sure there is water in the tank. It is very important to make sure you are ONLY using water to fill the tank.
Flow Indicator
This is located on the machine base. It spins when the trigger is pressed to indicate that the machine is applying cleaning solution to the carpet and will stop spinning when the formula tank or bladder needs to be refilled, or when the trigger is released.

No Water My Bissell rug shampooer does not eject water or saop whan I pull the saop trigger on the handle. I checked both filters and they are clean. Then, I removed the container that sucks up the water and pulled the saop trigger, water barely came out of the tubes. I tried to clean the rug in our family room and the rug was not wet when I finished, no water coming out to clean the rug. HELP HELP HELP!!! I live in Colorado is there a Bissell repair shop near Denver, HELP!!! Thanks Dominick ema
ANSWER : Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn’t squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can’t spray, just re-fasten it down.

ANSWER : Take out the 2 long screws with the nuts on them, then furher down just beneath the hose wrap asm, there are 2 more screws to remove. Put the top part of the handle off, lay the handle down, on the front, at the top and in the center is a tab, push it in and pull the top half of the handle away from the bottom half. Then you will see the heater, don’t mix up the hoses after you are done.
I have a bissell quickwash 1950-e. I bought it Jan. 2006, and have only used it 8-10 times, I live in a very hard water area, so I though if I put some vinegar in with the cleaning solution it would get rid of any hard water deposits, unfortunatly the solution went lumpy in the tank and stoped spraying out water, I have opened it, hose clean, sprayer not blocked, x at bottom of water container when depresed water trickles out, component that opens the x when water container placed, also ran wate
ANSWER : Hard to say what is causing your problem, replacing the cap and insert on the water tank may help, part #2041111, even tho it may trickle out water when depressed, they can still be bad. The other thing would be the rod not relesing the water like it should. The big draw back to this model is Bissell has obsoleted all of its parts and most are no longer available. Might be wiser to buy new.

I have a Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet/Upholstery cleaner and I can’t get the soap and water to come out of the attatchment. The vacuum part is working, but the spray isn’t. I can see the fluid is trying to go up the tube but won’t spray.
Help.

ANSWER : Hello,
I have a Bissell “Little Green” cleaning machine that acted like yours. I found several clogs in the fluid system. The power for the fluid in my unit is provided by a small AC motor independent from the vacuum motor attached to a small plastic pump. This pump then fed into the input of the heater. Inside the heater is a sort-of mirror-image, redundant labyrinth that the fluid passes through before it exits. My heater was completely blocked on both sides, and exhibited signs of corrosion. My choice was to disable the heater and to instead hook its output line straight to the pump. I also found clogs in the fluid line, particularly where there were bends. One of the clogs was where the vacuum and fluid line made a right angle turn out of the base of the machine. The other was in the trigger handle itself in a jog of the small line that connects the valve to the spray nozzle connector.
I would suggest examining the trigger handle first. The only thing to watch for is the position of a small flat metal spring with a square hole in the center that lives between the trigger and the valve (which is also sprung).
I made good use of some slightly smaller standard aquarium air line so I could blow water and air through without having to actually taste the internal lines of the machine.
My new resolution is to run clean water through the fluid system before putting it to bed!
