How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Hand vacuums bring you perfectly portable power in the palm of your hand for vacuuming furniture, stairs and even your car! They`re the all-stars of all-around versatility.
NOTE: The reset button is located on the upper left-hand side of the unit where the low voltage wires connect to the unit. It is most noticeable when popped out after the breaker has been tripped.
A dust devil (also known regionally as a dirt devil) is a strong, well-formed, and relatively short-lived whirlwind. Its size ranges from small (18in/half a metre wide and a few yards/metres tall) to large (more than 30ft/10 m wide and more than half a mile/1 km tall). The primary vertical motion is upward.
Dust devils get their name from the dust they pick up and spin into the air. Dust devils can form any time of the year but are most common during the warmer months and come to life on relatively calm, sunny days when the sun heats the ground and the warm air rises.
If your Dirt Devil Gator (Model Number: BD10100) isn`t starting or staying on for more than 15 seconds, you may need to replace the battery. Follow this guide to replace the battery to keep your Dirt Devil Gator in use! However before using this guide, you may not need to full replace the battery, just charge it!
Remove the brushroll and clean all hair, string, and lint from the brushroll bearings. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn`t spin after you clean the brushroll, consider replacing the brushroll.

I have a 2 fluorescent light fixture in my bathroom. The right side light quit working. I took the starter out of the left side and put it in the right and it worked. Starter, right? I bought a package of 2 Leviton starters FS 2 15w. They didn’t work. Thinking bad, I returned it for another package. Still not working. The original starter is a Sylvania FS 2. Is it possible to have FOUR bad “new” starters? Do I need to replace it with the EXACT same starter? This light fixture is 38 years old. No
ANSWER : It is not likely that you had 4 bad starters.I assume you have more modern lights in it too(not 30 yrs old). Here is a link to Sylvania. It may be just that it requires certain something(who knows what)that only Sylvania has.It seems strange because they are all basically the same and a generic one seems like it would work.I also googled flourescent light starters and under one that talked about operation,it did refer to some older models. But like I said,it probably has newer lights so who knows what the heck.Well, here you go.You may also just want to call Sylvania and ask where you can find a replacement instead of paying $5 to ship $2 worth of parts.

Our kenmore progressive model #11634922 was working fine today. And then – it’s not. Plugged in – nothing is working on it. We let it cool down (though it didn’t seem hot). Still nothing – no light, no motor. Tried it in some other plugs that we know are functioning well – and still nothing. Any idea what might be wrong with it? It’s six years old but doesn’t get heavy use.

Thanks so much ~ Susan Golden

ANSWER : Hi, it could be a number of things, cord may be bad as well as a problem with the motor. There also is a fuse that could have blown. If you go to sears.com, click on parts, put in your model number, when the page loads, click on the first link and you will have a parts list, and scroll down there will be a parts break-down picture that you can look at. You can also order parts thru the Sears website.

I have a hayward 1HP superpump with an Ao Smith UST 1102 motor on it. Last year I had a leak in the pump, and I believe I got some water in the bearings of the motor. Over the winter I replaced all the seals in the pump, and have no leaks this year, but the pump is sounding pretty loud since opening the pool this year.

I have (2) fold question:

(1)I can not find any information on the where I can find a replacement bearing for this pump.

(2) I can not find a procedure on HOW to go about

ANSWER : Hello. I get my parts here http://www.poolcenter.com/parts_pumps_hayward_superpump.htm

I heard that a class action lawsuit against Oreck Vacuum is being started because of all the problems customers are having with their vacuums. Does anyone know about this? My Oreck is only a couple of years old and keeps burning up belts. I took it in after only one week of usage when I started to notice white smoke coming out of it and the smell of burning rubber. I feel like I got the old run-around, when the service tech told me he couldn’t find anything wrong (but replaced the burned up belt
ANSWER : You are correct about the fact that legal action has been taken. Go to this link to read more

I recently took out a stand mixer that is probably over 50 years old. It belonged to my mother and I wanted to use it. It probably hasn’t been used in at least 10 years. With some effort, I removed one of the beaters but cannot remove the other one nor can I even budge it. I have used WD-40 but it’s not helping. It’s a Westinghouse product. Any ideas? Thanks.
ANSWER : If you used WD40, you should have the unit inverted so the WD40 runs down into the beater socket.Use a small piece of wood and place it against the bottom of the beater and tap lightly with a hammer while pressing the beater release button/lever, just enough to break any crusty seal that may have formed..If this does not loosen it enough to remove, using two pieces of wood about 1″x1″x12″ put them around the stem of the beater, above the beater cage and tap with a hammer while pressing the release button/lever for the beaters..
.This has me a bit intrigued. Please let me know how you make out..All the best.

Dyson animal We bought a Dyson Animal from Sears a few years ago along with a service contract. We took it each year to be serviced. One year I took it because it lost it’s suction. They sent it to the factory, but it came back still not working right. We did the same procedure over ands over many times than I can remember. I now have the cleaner in my garage and am using my old vacuum because I just can’t seem to get anywhere with Sears. Please help me. We paid almost $600.00 and now it can’t b
ANSWER : As someone who works for Sears, let me just say right now.. The service contract you bought sucks.. and does not really do anything for you. it was just a wast of money ( they have a new one now.. thats so much better because you get your money back in full on a gift card but anyways) When you buy a dyson from any place you really have no need for that contract, since sears CANT touch your dyson. Your really better off calling Dyson up and talking to them yourself, i know you said sears sent it out.. but wait heres a shocker.. Sometimes they never *really* send anything out to be fixed.. if it does not bring them in money, they don’t care.. and then they can get you to buy a *new* vacuum from them with that same S.C. that is of no use!.
.Sorry i cant help with your problem, but just wanted to give you a little insight on how Sears works since K mart bought them.
