How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

You can remove the plastic strip on the bottom to quickly empty the dust bag. After emptying, slide the plastic strip back onto the dust bag and place the dust bag back into the appliance.
Simply plug the product back in or restore the power and then switch off the appliance using the button on the control panel. The door will now unlock.
To fix a clog in the hose, feed one end into a garbage bag, and poke the other end with the back of a mop pole, until you push the clog material out into the garbage bag. To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.
If your vacuum seems to have lost its suction, there`s probably a clog somewhere in the system. If your vacuum has a bag, check to make sure it isn`t full. If it`s not full, but the compartment that houses it has lots of dust and dirt inside, that means there is likely a hole in your bag and it`s time to replace it.
Stick Vacuum Not Running

First make sure you have charged your device. If the vacuum still will not turn on after that, try to unplug the vacuum charger from the outlet. Leave the charger unplugged for at least 1-2 minutes. Next, turn on the stick vacuum and let run until the battery completely drains.

For best results the filters can be washed in warm water but check they are thoroughly dry before putting them back into place, this may take up to 24 hours. Hoover recommend that you fit new filters once per year to keep your vacuum cleaner in tip top working order.
There are 4 filters fitted to the product, for best cleaning results they should be removed and cleaned at least once per month.
It is the filter`s job to trap dirt and other particles from being expelled back into the air. Even so, filters are probably one of the most ignored aspects of a vacuum cleaner, especially when it comes to their maintenance and care.
Assuming that you`re vacuuming your house once to twice a week, you should clean your vacuum filter once every three months. You may need to clean it more frequently, up to once a month, if you`re using your vacuum more often.
A full bag will reduce the effectiveness of your vacuum cleaner, as well as contribute to poor air quality. It could even cause damage to the machine itself which could be expensive or impossible to repair. The take-home message is: check vacuum bags regularly and replace them when they are more than half full!
Buying reusable vacuum bags will help you save a lot of money. That`s why we have chosen this product which can be reused multiple times. They come in four different sizes — 2 jumbos, 5 XL, and 4 large and medium bags for storing additional items with ease.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Vacuuming can release and re-introduce pollutants back into your air, while washing the filters could potentially cause mold to grow if the filters are not dried fully. The only way to keep your filters fresh is to replace them regularly.
How to Tell If an Air Filter Is Washable. Your filter should indicate somewhere on it whether it`s washable. If you aren`t sure, get rid of the old filter when its time is up and buy a new filter you know is reusable. New filters should say on their packaging if you can wash them.
ULPA Filter Vacuum

So, if you`re looking for the absolute best in indoor air quality, vacuums with ULPA filters are the best on the market. ULPA stands for `ultra-low particulate air,` and vacuums with these filters are perfect in environments that demand an extremely high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.

Foam Filters: Usually circular, foam filters can be cleaned with soap and water. Pleated Paper or Synthetic Cartridges: These inexpensive filters are often not washable but you can clean them several times before replacing them.
HEPA Filters

HEPA is the short form of High-Efficiency Particulate Air, which is rated as the ultimate filtration system due to its effectiveness in removing 99.995% of harmful airborne particles from 0.3 microns.

It would also mean vacuuming was just moving dirt around the house! To avoid this, all vacuums come with filters. The purpose of these filters is to remove dust and dirt before it escapes back into the room. Where vacuums vary is the effectiveness of the filters they use.
Vacuum filtration is a procedure in which a pressure differential is maintained across the filter medium by evacuating the air below the filter paper. Vacuum filtration provides a force on the solution in addition to that of gravity and increases the rate of filtration.
“You cannot clean a HEPA filter by using something like a vacuum because the particles are trapped not only on the surface of the filter but also deep inside the media,” Bloemer says. Don`t even think about running it under your sink, either—liquids like water and soap will destroy the filter media, he adds.

ANSWER : Have you made sure the plastic filter cover with the round hole in it that covers the filter is in place ( part # 59177096 ). This piece seems to get lost, and without it there is no pick-up. The other common problem is that the wheel assembly has been damaged. Look at the bottom of the Floormate. You will see a black plastic wheel assembly. There are two pegs at the rear attaching it to the base. If this piece has a crack in it where it attaches to the base, there will be no pick-up.

Need help with my vacuum
ANSWER : You can wash the foam filters but make sure they are dry before putting them back. I have just ordered spare filters online from www.espares.co.uk You can search for your vacuum cleaner model number to find the correct filters. Alternatively, you can ask them.
On my Hoover dust magnet cyclone cylinder machine I found another filter beneath the plastic box that collects the dirt & dust. I removed it and washed that too. I didn’t know there was one there until I read it somewhere. You shouldn’t use soapy water to wash it, just plain, cold water. It has made a big difference to the vac’s performance.

Does the hoover runabout u427-930 have a filter? I replaced the belt and next to the light bulb was a square gray mat that looked like a filter covering a screen full of holes that looked like the motor was behind. I think it was a mat of cat hair so I took it off and threw it away; I just want to make sure that it wasn’t a filter that I need to replace.
ANSWER : From doing a search on the internet and hoovers website it looks as if this unit does not have a filter. Such as a hepa that needs to be replaced or that is washable. So i think you are safe and dont need to worry about it.
