How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If the appliance is not cold enough check to make sure the door has not been left open or ajar by mistake. If the door has been left open this can allow warm air into the machine which will raise the temperature inside and can cause soft fluffy ice to build up in the back of the machine.
If your freezer is not cold, the problem may be caused by a broken condenser fan motor. The condenser fan draws cool air through the condenser and over your freezer`s coils. If this fan is broken, your freezer`s inner temperature will rise, and the compressor will overheat.
There are a few reasons why the freezer in your cabinet may not have been working, like an automatic shutoff of the energy controls, the fridges power supply being interrupted, or your fridge simply taking time to turn on again.
There are several causes for a refrigerator that doesn`t cool, including dirty condenser coils, poor ventilation, improper installation, faulty or dirty gasket seals, unorganized food storage, appliance location and malfunctioning internal parts.
Place a container filled with water in the freezer compartment. 2. As soon as the water has completely frozen, place a coin onto the surface of the ice. Now, if your freezer really is failing from time to time, over time the water in the container will thaw a little and the coin will gradually sink downwards.
Most foods above 40 degrees Fahrenheit for more than 2 hours are at risk for bacterial growth, which might lead to a foodborne illness and should be discarded. Meats and poultry (uncooked) can be refrozen if the freezer temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and the color and odor of the foods are good.
Steps To Reset Compressor

Turn the fridge and freezer off or temperature control to “0” inside the unit. Then plug the refrigerator back in. Change the temperature setting of the refrigerator to the standard number of “5” and let it reset itself for 24 hours.

After you`ve turned the system back on, it will take a bit of time for the air conditioner`s internal circuitry to reset. It usually takes about 30 minutes, so sit tight until then.
The average refrigerator repair cost ranges from $200 to $1,000 and depends on what caused the issue. For example, refrigerator compressor repair cost will run between $200 and $450.
The compressor can be found at the bottom of your chest freezer. Refrigerant gas flows through the compressor, and is then pushed into the condenser at high pressure.
Dirty condenser coils can reduce your freezer`s overall cooling capacity since dirty coils make the condenser retain heat rather than release it. This causes the compressor to overcompensate. To prevent this from happening, make sure to clean your condenser coils regularly.
Keeping the freezer nearly empty

A full freezer retains cold better than an empty one. When you open the door, the mass of frozen food will help keep in the cold, and the unit won`t have to work as hard to cool empty space. But don`t jam pack the freezer either; you need air to circulate.

Fridges and freezers are full of fluid that`s used to cool the compartments. In transit, your appliance gets shaken around, so it`s best to let everything settle before you plug it in.
The answer is yes it should be unplugged.
A compressor also circulates coolant through coils, and that regulates the temperature inside your fridge. Without this regulation, all food or beverages stored inside a fridge will spoil quickly. No refrigerator can function properly without a working compressor.
A compressor in trouble is not able to pump refrigerant through the system, resulting in a lack of cooling power. However, it`s important to note that this symptom can also be caused by a refrigerant leak. If the system has been gradually losing cooling power for some time, this could be the cause.
If your compressor is failing to work properly, it could simply be from a nearly empty oil tank. Power switch failure — When the compressor fails to power on, it could be due to a lack of contact between the pressure switch and inner circuitry. This can possibly be remedied with adjustments to the pressure switch.
Replacing a compressor is a very difficult repair to make and involves welding. You should only attempt this repair if you are experienced and/or a qualified technician. It is also a very dangerous repair to carry out, as it involves working with highly flammable gasses.
Perhaps the most obvious sign of a compressor issue is poor air conditioning performance. If you notice your cabin feeling warmer than usual or your air conditioner is blowing warm air, you know that your system is experiencing some troubles.
Unplug the refrigerator and check the condenser coils for dust and dirt buildup. Clean the condenser coils if they`re dirty. Continue to clean the coils when you perform routine refrigerator maintenance. Check to see if the condenser fan works when you see the freezer not getting cold enough.
Manually Defrost the Freezer

As long as your frozen food is stored somewhere cold, there`s no need to hurry. Simply prop open the freezer door, and let the ice melt overnight while your towels soak up the water. In the morning, move remaining chunks of ice to the kitchen sink to finish melting.

Some fridges don`t show the temperature but work on a setting that is listed from 1 to 5. The numbers on the fridge`s temperature dial indicate the refrigerating power. Therefore, the higher the setting, the cooler the fridge will be. Choosing setting 5 will make your fridge the coldest.

We have a dyson dc 07 animal the machine was working fine then switched off after returning to the machine minutes later it wouldnt switch on, i removed on off switch cover and used a short piece of wire across the brown wires flicked the wall switch and it worked, aha i thought faulty switch aquired a new one to no avail and now even the short piece of wire trick doesnt work, has the motor died do you think, it wasnt over heating or making strange noises prior to refusing to work
ANSWER : It could be the motor. I’m having to replace the brushes on my DC 05. It appears that you can only get brushes for the YDK motors in the DYSON, not the Panasonic motor. Which might be saying something about the YDK motors. What happens is that the carbon brushes wear down which is normal. However, the contact wire from the brush to its connector is set so that when the brush wears down, the wire is short enough to stop the spring etc from damaging the commutator. The end result is that you get an intermittent operation of the motor before it finally dies.
.I believe all the DYSONs come with the option of both motors and you cannot really tell which motor you have until you take the thing to bits. You also cannot change motors without changing various other parts on the hoover. On my DC 05 the writing on the YDK motor tells you which one it is.
.This website www. tasweb.org ,select the DC 05 option and scroll down tells you how to take the thing to bits. A search on google etc for your DC 07 may give similar results. Best of luck!

Power head attachment works great when plugged into the hose part of the vacuum. The problem is when I attach it to the tube for normal use there is no power. I have checked all the connections and switched the power switch on and off still no power from tube to power head.
Is there anything else I can try? Model Callisto
ANSWER : Try having someone turn the machine on and off while you pull the cord in and out with the cord more angled towards the on/off switch. Sometimes these models have a break in the cord rewind and will not put the power through to the motor.

Keep in mind this is repairable, and if the unit is less than 5 years old it should still be under warranty.

Good luck .

Power Consumption Refridgerators
ANSWER : I have a 10KW stik welder/generator. I have no problem running a large freezer and 2 fridges except for the startup current draw. I have a $300 transfer switch connected to a 60amp sub panel with current meters on each leg. I have to watch the current draw and turn on & off breakers. I do have to play the “green acres” game because I have the water heater, well pump, and kit ckt all connected as well. Coffee machine, toaster, oil furnace, microwave all have to take turns as well as the water heater(4500WATTS). Cost was about$3500 in 2001 and $600 for a generator shed. lots of my labor. Last time we lost power it payed for itself. 28 hours without a generator would have been a trip to a hotel and lots of spoiled food to dump. hot shower and coffee anytime a big +

Hoover floormate Hi, I’m not sure what the model number is on my Hoover Floormate, but I can’t get the cleaning liquid to dispense. The vacuum(dry pickup works fine). The handle squeezes without a problem. It used to work without a problem and then I didn’t use it for awhile. When I came back to it, it wasn’t working. Thanks, Alissa
ANSWER : The tank sits on what is called the reservior asm. it is actuated by the control rod inside the handle. With the tank off, watch and see if you can see that rod hitting the reservior asm when you squeeze the trigger. If it is moving up and down on it, then the resorvior asm may be bad. Also check the valve at the bottom of the tank, manually push it in and see if it releases water.
