How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Make sure the cord is fully extended before you begin vacuuming. Hold onto the cord with your hand as you vacuum. This will keep the cord from being pulled back into the vacuum. If the cord has a lock or lock button, use it to keep the cord extended.
They use a spring mechanism to provide the retraction force. As the cord is uncoiled and pulled out for use, tension builds up on the steel torsion spring. Once the electrical power is no longer needed, the stored energy in the torsion spring is released, retracting the cord back to the reel.
Why is the vacuum is blowing dusty air out of the back? Simple: the bag or canister is full and the vacuum has nowhere to store the dust it is collecting. Empty the canister or bag. If that doesn`t fix it, the vacuum filter needs to be cleaned or changed.
If your reel will not latch, it could mean the latch spring is broken or the latch pawl or latch plate is bent. The broken or bent part(s) will need to be replaced.
What is a Vacuum with a Retractable Cord? A vacuum cleaner with a retractable cord is exactly how it sounds — a vacuum cleaner that has a cord that`s stored internally. Usually, these types of vacuums are designed to automatically retract the cord as soon as it`s unplugged from a power source.
Twisted Cord – Oftentimes we see that the rubber exterior of a cord is very twisted and disfigured by one of the ends of the vacuum. This is caused by the user either winding the cord from the plug to the machine or from the machine side to the plug with the plug still in the outlet.
No. Never use duct tape as an alternative to electrical tape. Duct tape is strong, but it can`t wrap as tightly around wires and contains cloth fibers which can be an extreme fire hazard.
This pressure drop behind the fan is just like the pressure drop in the straw when you sip from your drink. The pressure level in the area behind the fan drops below the pressure level outside the vacuum cleaner (the ambient air pressure). This creates suction, a partial vacuum, inside the vacuum cleaner.
What`s happening with your vacuum cleaner is that a clog has built up and debris being agitated by the roller is spitting out or stirring up dust without sucking it in.

We bought a new cord winder for our Electrolux 1205 Canister Vacuum cleaner and we are trying to install it is not turning on. We get it all connected but it doesn’t turn on. Is there a reset button or some advise you can give me to get it working? I used a voltage detector to see if there was power running through the cord winder and there is.
ANSWER : Did you put a bag in the vacuum?
.I suspect there’s an improper wire connection somewhere, but there are other things that could cause this I strongly recommend taking it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux dealer and letting a trained tech check it out.
