Eureka 4874 Bagged Upright Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Locate the Thermal Motor Reset button on the back of the vacuum. Press button and resume vacuuming. If problem continues, contact your Authorized Simplicity Retailer.
Change the vacuum bag when the full bag indicator light is flashing RED or suction power is weak. The bag compartment will not close without a bag in the unit or if the bag is not properly installed.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
If the filter isn`t clean, it can impact the performance of the vacuum. Dirty vacuum filters can restrict airflow so the suction won`t be as strong.
If your lights dim briefly as soon as you turn your vacuum cleaner on, then return to normal, this is usually nothing to worry about. In fact, it`s normal for this to occur. Vacuum cleaners use a lot of electricity and starting yours up may cause the voltage to temporarily drop.
Short answer, the manufacture decides to either to add or not add a light. A light does help in showing if the carpet is clean or not. Most older vacuums and many higher priced vacuums have lights.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.
Without an air filter in place, the engine may also be sucking dirt and debris in at the same time. This can cause damage to internal engine parts, such as valves, pistons and cylinder walls. The result is excessive oil consumption, poor engine performance, and eventually engine failure.
If your Roomba® i Series Robot Vacuum is not turning on or is not able to charge, rebooting your robot tends to solve most related issues. To reboot your Roomba: Press and hold the CLEAN button for 20 seconds. After you release the button, the light ring will show a white clockwise swirl while it reboots.

Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

The problem may lie in your vacuum cleaner`s adapter, charging dock, or battery and the electrical outlet. Try plugging your vacuum cleaner in to another outlet. If it is now working, the problem was in the first outlet that you have used. You should contact a certified electrician if you need to fix that outlet.
Since electromagnetic waves do not require a medium for their propagation and since light is an electromagnetic wave, light can travel in vacuum.
It`s important to fully charge the machine before using it for the first time, and after every clean. This helps to improve the algorithm`s accuracy. The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it`s next used.
An LED is a solid-state lighting technology, or SSL. So, instead of emitting light from a vacuum, like the incandescent bulb or a gas, like a CFL, the SSL emits light from a piece of solid matter.
If you`re smelling rubber, the belt has either burned out and snapped or the belt has become so stretched out that the roller is not moving and the vacuum belt is getting super heated from the motors RPM.
When a thermal cut off activates, it shuts the motor down. This prevents the motor from overheating to a point where it will no longer function and will need replacing.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
Vacuuming every day, or even a few times a day, is not going to create any long term problems. `But,` you might be thinking, `doesn`t the brushes spinning over the carpet on a beater bar wear it out? ` Sure, but a very small amount.
If you don`t vacuum your carpet, the dirt will break down carpet fibers and create a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria. In addition, your home will begin to smell musty from the dirt, mites, and other organisms settling into the fibers.
Vacuums often cause “nuisance tripping” with AFCI circuit breakers because vacuums produce a small amount of sparking as they run. And because sparks are essentially small electrical arcs, they`ll occasionally trip your AFCI breaker. Other devices that are prone to “nuisance tripping” include: Flat screen TVs.
Vacuuming can release and re-introduce pollutants back into your air, while washing the filters could potentially cause mold to grow if the filters are not dried fully. The only way to keep your filters fresh is to replace them regularly.

Our problem with our Rainbow E Series is that it has sucked water up and blown it out through the lower part of the hepa filter, making the filter wet and dirty. This had happened before and the repair shop did not see any problems with the machine, so we replaced the filter and were very carful not to overfill the tank and to change the water often. Now it has happened again and ruined another filter. Do you know what could be causing this issue? Can the filter be cleaned or will a new one be

1. There is no reason to waste money on an EXPENSIVE replacement. While some people may like the fact that something that may be brand new may work better, this is not always the case.
.

2. You can easily set the filter out to try as long as there is NO WET ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, if so, you will be facing electrical damage
.

3. Once you have performed a natural or sun dry on the old filter, ensure to check your unit for anything that may have caused the back clog.
.

4. Back clogs for your model are often times associated with a BUILD UP of dirt and HAIR. YOU may always use pressure air for example at a gas station to flush out the build up.
.

5. Other occasions, users accidently build the vac WRONG causing continual backup and water going where it is NOT suppose to go.

I just received my Hepa filter in the mail today. Product #XSH621 – Hepa filter for EP619 & EP621 :005-04 When bought my vacumn, I was told that the filters were free and all I do is pay Postage. Today I received one filter and it lookes like I got charged the postage for two filters. The packages slips: One stated order #11152282 The other order # 1151940 If I get charged for two I expect to receive two. Can you help me with this matter or where can I go to get resolution. Catherine Fantini e-
ANSWER : This isn’t really a problem that can be fixed here on Fixya rather than advise you as a buyer. You’d have to contact the people/company you have purchased the filters from and take it up with them regarding the postage. Hope you get a decent reply.

Does the hoover runabout u427-930 have a filter? I replaced the belt and next to the light bulb was a square gray mat that looked like a filter covering a screen full of holes that looked like the motor was behind. I think it was a mat of cat hair so I took it off and threw it away; I just want to make sure that it wasn’t a filter that I need to replace.
ANSWER : From doing a search on the internet and hoovers website it looks as if this unit does not have a filter. Such as a hepa that needs to be replaced or that is washable. So i think you are safe and dont need to worry about it.

I have a light ballast that stopped working. The lights around this one bulb still work but changing the light bulb did not fix the problem. Any idea what is going on here?
ANSWER : The ballast is like a fuse and the ballast is blown .
.you will need to replace the ballast as it will let current thru for some bulbs but not enough to light them all up.
.also if you use old bulbs that are alomst blown and new ones it puts ware on the ballast and it wont last as long.
.if you do not know how to change the ballast you should get an electrician in to do it for you. he could also look for other problems and better detect the issue you are having.
.however i find that replacing the ballast is usulally the easiest fix.

My electrolux oxygen cannister has the “bag change” light on when there is a new bag. The light stays on when the suction power is high (to pick up small particles) and it won’t pick up, but the ight goes off when the suction power is low (to pick up big objects). I changed the hepa filter, cleaned the motor filter and changed bags, but all that didn’t help.
ANSWER : You may have a clog in the hose, and/or the inlet by the brush roll. A clog will turn on that light as well as a full bag.

I have a 2 fluorescent light fixture in my bathroom. The right side light quit working. I took the starter out of the left side and put it in the right and it worked. Starter, right? I bought a package of 2 Leviton starters FS 2 15w. They didn’t work. Thinking bad, I returned it for another package. Still not working. The original starter is a Sylvania FS 2. Is it possible to have FOUR bad “new” starters? Do I need to replace it with the EXACT same starter? This light fixture is 38 years old. No
ANSWER : It is not likely that you had 4 bad starters.I assume you have more modern lights in it too(not 30 yrs old). Here is a link to Sylvania. It may be just that it requires certain something(who knows what)that only Sylvania has.It seems strange because they are all basically the same and a generic one seems like it would work.I also googled flourescent light starters and under one that talked about operation,it did refer to some older models. But like I said,it probably has newer lights so who knows what the heck.Well, here you go.You may also just want to call Sylvania and ask where you can find a replacement instead of paying $5 to ship $2 worth of parts.

I have a Casa Blanca Intelitouch ceiling fan.
Panama5
12004T model no.??
serial no.: AU16550
A casa blanca tri-switch on the wall: lights-fan-power

When I turn it on, the lights and fan work fine.
After a period of time, the lights go off by themselves.
I don’t remember the fan ever going off by itself, only the lights.

ANSWER : The light are going off only because after a period of time the circuit lets off the trigger on the switching thyristor. So the fault is within the control box of the unit which must be taken out to confirm.
.Now attempt to do the job only if your are competent with high voltage circuits as the circuit must be checked before and after the lights switch off.
.It is also possible that the switching device the thyristor may be on dry soldering joint. So with the mains power off( or the power disconnected to the unit) have yourself insulated , use a soldering iron to touch up all the joints.
.Failure of capacitors in the trigger circuit is also possible to have this delay off.
.Trace the trigger voltage cut off at this point to come to the solution.( use a multimeter)
