Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 Looked for blockage and couldn’t find any. When you try to use the wand it is hard to get out as if the suction is pulling it back in the holder.\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
Check the vacuum cleaner to see if it tripped a circuit breaker or blew a fuse. Check the circuit breakers, or fuses and, if it has tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse, simply re-set the breaker, or replace the fuse, and switch the vacuum on again.
These are symptoms of bad or dirty bearings. You should remove the brush roll or rolls from the vacuum. Check to see that the bearings at the end of the brush roll allow it to spin freely. Make sure that there is no hair trapped in the bearings.
Check to see if the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced. The brush roll may be stuck or damaged. Check if the brush roll is rotating freely and if there are any visible signs of damage. There may be a problem with the motor or the battery.
Make sure the battery is charged fully. Sometimes when your Dyson vacuum is not working, the battery could have been placed improperly on the charger preventing the battery from receiving a full charge between uses. Also, make sure the charger is plugged in correctly too.
Relevant Questions and Answers :
the most relevant questions and answers related to your specific issue
.1) Pull the wand out as far as you can – if you can pull it out completely, separate it from the hose and apply baby powder to the metal rod. Stretch out the hose and unwind it. In the future, separate the wand and unwind/stretch the hose after use.
.2) If you can’t pull the wand out all the way, remove the u-bend from the bottom of the machine – turn that plastic screw at the bottom next to the gray hose 45 degrees anti-clockwise and take the u-bend off.
.3) Pull the hose out from the bottom (don’t pull it out all the way – just enough to release the wand) and pull the wand at the same time – separate the wand from the hose and unwind the gray hose and stretch it out. Rub baby powder on the metal rod of the wand and in future, disconnect the wand from the hose and stretch/unwind the hose after every time you use the wand.

What are my alternatives? If I can’t service this machine without returning it to Dyson, I won’t ever buy another one.

.The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01
.
.If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.
