How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.
Check the Circuit
Check the vacuum cleaner to see if it tripped a circuit breaker or blew a fuse. Check the circuit breakers, or fuses and, if it has tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse, simply re-set the breaker, or replace the fuse, and switch the vacuum on again.
If you have lost suction from the wand handle on your Dyson vacuum, remove the handle and check the hose suction, if the hose suction is good then obviously you have a blockage in your wand handle. Common sense but its surprising how many callouts I have had for this simple problem.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on. Please note: In normal use, the Brush bar automatically turns off when the machine is upright and automatically turns on when the machine is in the vacuuming position.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
Description. This genuine Dyson vacuum part is the reset switch for the Dyson DC24 and D25 uprights. This switch needs to be activated if you experience a power surge while vacuuming, and your vacuum turns off as a result.
Press and hold the power button on the machine for approximately 20 seconds. The WiFi light will flash both green and white in a rapid sequence of flashing lights, before switching itself off. Once this sequence has been completed, the machine will have been reset and you can release the power button.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
Brush Head Bearings Are Clogged or Have Failed
These are symptoms of bad or dirty bearings. You should remove the brush roll or rolls from the vacuum. Check to see that the bearings at the end of the brush roll allow it to spin freely. Make sure that there is no hair trapped in the bearings.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
If your dyson vacuum isn`t turning on, don`t panic – there are a couple possible causes. It could simply be that the vacuum overheated and shut itself off. If that is the case, wait 24 hours and turn it back on. However, another problem with dysons are failed power switches.
To add any Dyson attachment to your hose, simply slide the opening over the end of the wand. Rotate the attachment as needed to adhere it to the end of the wand. You will not hear a click or anything since the attachment relies on the tension between the 2 openings to stay in place.
If there is a strong burning smell coming from the motor area of your Dyson DC14 or DC07 then it is most likely that your motor has burnt out.
Over time, all batteries are subject to degradation. So if your run time has declined when the machine is not in Max / Boost mode, it might be time to buy a new battery.
Open the cap on the handle and slide the wand upwards until both the wand and hose release from the machine. Press the button on the end of the hose and remove the wand. Press the button on the bin handle and remove the bin. Press the tab on the base of the hose to remove it from your machine.
and so you just need to rinse this under cool lukewarm water don`t use any soap or anything like that just give it a rinse and make sure it dries for 20 at least 24.
Dyson Pulsing No Blockage
Check to see if the filter needs to be cleaned or replaced. The brush roll may be stuck or damaged. Check if the brush roll is rotating freely and if there are any visible signs of damage. There may be a problem with the motor or the battery.
Most problems arise because of a blockage – if not a dirty filter or cyclone unit, then something could be caught in the wand or the brush bar. Once again, the lack of suction could be caused by a dirty filter or a blockage somewhere in the vacuum`s system.
Resetting your carbon filter life Press and hold the Oscillation button on your remote control. The display on your machine will countdown from five, the filter life will be reset and your machine is ready to use.
In many cases, you probably can repair a Dyson yourself, especially when it comes to common issues (see below). However, even if your machine needs some extra TLC by a Dyson expert, it can be worth getting it repaired.
Check Your Battery & Charger:
Make sure the battery is charged fully. Sometimes when your Dyson vacuum is not working, the battery could have been placed improperly on the charger preventing the battery from receiving a full charge between uses. Also, make sure the charger is plugged in correctly too.
All batteries, even Dyson`s high-end lithium ion batteries fail given enough time, and the blinking red light problem is an indication that your battery has failed. The battery cannot be fixed. It has to be disposed of and replaced.
As a general rule, if the repair is going to cost less than half the cost of a new vacuum cleaner, it`s best to go ahead and get it repaired. When the service tops half the price of a new machine, it`s probably best to invest in a newer model.

I have Dyson animla and the wand stop working….no bloc anywhere
ANSWER : The hose is getting twisted on the machine and that makes it difficult to pull it out.
.1) Pull the wand out as far as you can – if you can pull it out completely, separate it from the hose and apply baby powder to the metal rod. Stretch out the hose and unwind it. In the future, separate the wand and unwind/stretch the hose after use.

This is embarassing, but I have just looked at the Dyson DC07 manual and at my Dyson for about 20 minutes, and I can’t for the life of me find the wand release button on my actual Dyson…..the manual pictures don’t look like the parts on my Dyson….I don’t have a hose with a wand release button….the hose just goes straight up inside the handle….Can someone help me? ANSWER : Hi the wand release button is located directly above the the Cylinder release button. The wand release button looks like the picture below. In order to releease the wand you must firstly make sure the Electrical cable is not wrapped up for storage. So unwrap the electrical cable. then find the item as in the picture. Press this button in and at the same time lift the wand. This will realease the wand from the spine of the Dyson.

Hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but when you got to use the vac for floors little suction but wand still got suction even while vacuming floors is it suposed to stop suction from wand
ANSWER : My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It’s a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

Wand in stowaway dyson is hard to extend. Seems like u have to pull 3 clips from grooves in 3 rings around wand to extend and shorten wand which is a struggle
ANSWER : Hi there, you should just be able to hold the telescopic wand in one hand, press the button and pull the whole length of the wand out to its fullest position.
If the telescopic wand on your particular Dyosn is very stiff, you may need a replacement.

My dyson seems to have lost its suction therefore is not picking up anything yet i have found that when my dyson is standing upright it has a little more suction but nothing like how it use to work. This has only happend in the last 2 weeks. I sanded a floor & though the sander picked up majority of the dust i did use the dyson to pick up the excess and it is since then that my dyson has not been working to its full potential.

When connecting the wand into the brush component. sporatic power (sometimes runs sometime nothing) the power is on again off again. when hold pressure down on the wand the power stays on. do you think the coupling connection is bad on the wand? would the wand replacement likely be the culprit?
ANSWER : There is is switch or sensor in the connection. Likely that piece is worn or shorted out. You may be better off getting a new wand piece

Need connector wires inside wand. Electrolux central vac. 16″ wand 1 1/4″ wand dia. Don’t need wand, just the wires.
ANSWER : Go to a store like Lowe’s and look in their electrical department. You need wire the same gauge size (stranded or solid) and comparable insulation. Hope this helps!
