How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Unplug and check to see if your clean tank is seated properly. Also, remove the dirty water tank and make sure there are no clogs in the hose below it. Remove the filter and clean both the screen and filter of any build up or debris and empty the tank before replacing it.
Using the marks on the inside of the formula cap, add 7 oz of BISSELL 2X formula to tank. Add water to the tank until you reach the original formula fill line. The next time you fill your tank, use the new fill lines instead of measuring the formula.
Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.
Check to see if the collection water tank outside the bladder is full. The float will activate to cut off suction. Empty the collection tank and test for suction. If there is still no suction at this time, please visit a BISSELL Authorized Service Center.
While extreme suction power may offer peace of mind to homeowners who want to feel confident that their vacuums are effective at sucking up dirt and germs, it can be very damaging to your carpet and should be avoided! For high pile and premium soft carpet, be sure to avoid vacuums with concentrated or sealed suction.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.

I just got a new machine (new to me anyway) new home hf106 model. i need to thread the bobbin on the new thead i am using and am not sure where to put the empty bobbin and how to thread it. help!
ANSWER : Janome New Home?

Unfortunately, Janome doesn’t put the manuals for older machines on their website. Your best bet is to contact your local Janome sewing machine dealer and ask for a “copy” of the manual from them. A photo copy should be sufficient for your purposes. Otherwise I understand you’ll have to buy a manual and wait to have it shipped.

But carefully look at your New Home. On the top toward the right there should be a fitting that looks like the bottom half of a spool. and next to it is a thing that almost looks like a mushroom.

Put the spool of thread on the spool holder, run the tread to and around the tension discs on top then thread the end through the hole in your empty bobbin. Place the bobbin on the thing that looks like a half a spool and push the whole thing to the right toward the “mushroom.”

Press start, or hit the foot feed. Wind slowly for best results.

When full, stop and move the bobbin winder back to the Left (sewing mode)

Now… hold your bobbin between your right thumb and fore finger… pull the thread a few inches… your thread should be coming off the LEFT side of the spool, if not flip it over and try again. Open the bobbin area, drop it in with the thread coming off the left to the bobbin.

hold bobbin still with right index finger and with left hand slip the tread between the bobbin race’s tension spring then if your model has a channel for the tread… follow it… otherwise pull straight back, replace the bobbin cover on the machine…..

Thread top thread then use the hand wheel to take up the bobbin thread.

(Of course this all assumes your New Home is similar to my janome or brother.) Have fun!

Be sure to get some good needles…. 😉

Help hi there. i have a hoover savvy u8172-900 vaccum. the hose has great suction, but there is limited suction on the main unit and the brush does not spin when i try to use the product. we have cleared the brush of any debris and have also installed a new bag. a few days ago, we disconnected the hose to make sure there was not any foreign bodies stuck in the unit…nothing seems to help. any advise?
ANSWER : As the hose fits into the base (if i am correct) the power at the base should be fine, make sure the base is clean and free from blockage,.you say the brush doesn’t spin, has the belt broken, if so replace it, (very cheap) and only a couple of screws to undo, the roller not rotating will effect the power of suction dramatically,.start from there and see how you go..if i have helped please rate me

My new Hoover 2100 Model number PU 2110-001 stops for 20 minutes every 4-5 minutes of use. It seems to get too hot. It has done this since new, I have changed the dust bag & all filters, but it makes no difference. Help
ANSWER : AS new return to shop, Not fit for purpose, they should replace it. sounds as if thermal fuse is tripping in the motor, resets itself when cooled down.

Help Hi I have had my irobot roomba model 4000 now for 3 months now, I just LOVE it sooo much. I have used it everyday since I got it. But now it is not working. I cleaned it all out I even sprayed it with that air spray can. What happens is, It starts to go then it acts like there is something in the way and stops then goes the other way, then goes off. What is wrong? Please help!!!
ANSWER : I had the same kind of problem with my model 400 today…after starting it and having it go in a circle for 30 seconds or so it would finally run into something and then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, etc., etc.. I tried cleaning off the four pairs of sensors under the bumper and blowing out various things underneath (by mouth since I didn’t have any canned compressed air). It didn’t really help. It then occurred to me that I had a leaf blower! I put the Roomba upside down on the grass, put the leaf blower on high, and blew at it from all directions and up close. More dust came out than I thought would. It has been running normally now for the last 45 minutes.

I bought a used Miele vacuum with the SET210 wand, but the push button to release and clamp the telescoping wand was missing. I can get the wand to slide by pushing with my finger, but it’s a little difficult. The main problem is that nothing holds it in place at the desired position. I bought a replacement push button online, but it came with no instructions. How do I install it?
ANSWER : Your best bet would be to put on your friendly face, and take the unit into a Vacuum Repair Shop, and have them assist you, or at least give you tips on the procedure. Chances are you will have to disassemble the unit a lot more than you might want to. You might try to contact Miele support to inquire about any diagrams, etc., and their support site is here:

.Wish I had more ideas. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Central vac system is 18 years old. Recently started to shut down during vacuuming. Motor may be over heating. Electrolux has been out and is pushing a new system but not sure if it is necessary.
ANSWER : The motor can be replaced for a lot less than the cost of a new machine. A new motor comes with a one year warranty if installed by the service tech. A new CV unit alone may be over three times as much, but does have a five year warranty.
.At 18 years, there are other things that could be getting worn out as well. If you happen to need to replace them over the next year or two, then you would have been better off getting a new machine. Just the motor and hose can be over $600. Add the power module, power nozzle or parts, and wands, and the costs can end up being over $1000. So take a look at the hose and accessories. If they show a lot of wear and tear, then it might be better to replace the whole thing. A new machine carries a five year warranty, which also covers accessories.
.Also, have you notice a loss of suction? This usually results from a worn out, leaky hose, and with a 30 foot hose can result in a tremendous loss of suction.
.Just take all things into consideration.
.Personally, I’d recommend a new canister vacuum. Depending on the model, they come with a five to twenty year warranty, with five on the accessories from the hose down.

I have a self propelled Royal Dirt Devil vacuum model number 087900 and it goes backward fine but forward has to be pushed so hard it’s impossible. Is this a switch? Do you know about how much the part would cost and can it be done by a beginner. We fix a lot of things ourselves but we aren’t mechanics by no means. We put a brand new belt on it. I don’t think it can be put on backwards and brush turns fine. Where is the switch? Use layman’s terms.
ANSWER : You might try a new belt and/or brush roll. The brush roll is what helps pull a vacuum forward, the power drive helps, but if the brush isn’t turning like it should, then it will hinder forward motion. The belt may look ok, but they stretch to the point that under load they won’t drive the brush roll.
