Name. Although vacuum cleaner and the short form vacuum are neutral names, in some countries (UK, Ireland) hoover is used instead as a genericized trademark, and as a verb. The name comes from the Hoover Company, one of the first and more influential companies in the development of the device.
Vacuum cleaners work because of Bernoulli`s Principle, which states that as the speed of air increases, the pressure decreases. Air will always flow from a high-pressure area to a low-pressure area, to try to balance out the pressure.
Loose connections will cause your vacuum cleaner to lose suction. Make sure that the dust container, the hose, the tube and the brush are all attached properly. If the problem continues, your vacuum cleaner might have a technical problem. If you suspect this to be the case, contact an authorised service agent.
vacuum. For the electrical appliance that cleans surfaces through suction, North Americans tend to use vacuum cleaner, or just vacuum, and Britons tend to use hoover.
Hoover in American English

1. a vacuum cleaner. noun. 2. [ h-]; British.

They are majorly used to remove dirt and dust from upholstery, carpets, velveteen furniture and floors made of hardwood and many varieties of floors, including laminated floors. They are also used to clean cars and stairs.
The boxy part of the has a motor inside it that does the same job as your mouth. The rotating fan of the motor creates a vacuum and begins to suck in air through the suction nozzle at the end of a pipe. Any dust that comes within range of the suction of the nozzle gets pulled into the pipe and is collected in a bag.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.
Broom and Dustpan

You can use a small dustpan or one with a handle to reduce the need to bend. Start at one end or corner of the carpet and work toward the other end to avoid missing areas. Use short, quick strokes. If debris begins to pile up, sweep it into the dustpan before you reach the end of the job.

The British association of the vacuum cleaner with the word `Hoover` came from the American company`s advertising strategies and dominance in the British market.
/ˈhuː.vɚ/ to use a vacuum cleaner (= a machine that sucks up dust and dirt) to clean floors and other surfaces: He was busy hoovering the bedroom carpet when I got home. I hoovered this morning.
Before serving as America`s 31st President from 1929 to 1933, Herbert Hoover had achieved international success as a mining engineer and worldwide gratitude as “The Great Humanitarian” who fed war-torn Europe during and after World War I.
The Hoover Company is a home appliance company founded in Ohio, United States.
When the U.S. entered the war in 1917, President Woodrow Wilson appointed Hoover to lead the Food Administration. He became famous as his country`s “food czar”. After the war, Hoover led the American Relief Administration, which provided food to the starving millions in Central and Eastern Europe, especially Russia.
“We would recommend vacuuming at least once or twice a week—and more often if we have pets—with the right tools to remove dust quickly and effectively,” Patel advises.
If you don`t vacuum your carpet, the dirt will break down carpet fibers and create a breeding ground for dust mites and bacteria. In addition, your home will begin to smell musty from the dirt, mites, and other organisms settling into the fibers.
At Thrasher Termite & Pest Control, we`ve found live bed bugs inside of vacuum cleaners. Vacuums suck up small particles, including bed bugs and bed bug eggs. Vacuums have lots of nooks and crannies for bed bugs and bed bug eggs to hide: the rug beater, the corrugated hose, the filters, the bag or the dirt receptacle.
The vibrating of the cleaner`s body – noise happens as air moves around inside the machine and hits various parts of the cleaner. This creates vibrations, which are the sounds you can hear. Many cleaners are made with plastic bodies, which make loud noises when they vibrate.
Even though vacuum cleaners are great for removing dirt and dust from your home, it is necessary to maintain them properly to keep them doing an efficient cleaning job. Dirt accumulates over time, and if not removed regularly, it results in an unpleasant odour coming from your cleaner while you are using it.
To protect the motor – filetering the air as it passes through the vacuum prevents fine dirt and dust particles from gettign into the motor and building up over time.
Stick Vacuum Not Running

First make sure you have charged your device. If the vacuum still will not turn on after that, try to unplug the vacuum charger from the outlet. Leave the charger unplugged for at least 1-2 minutes. Next, turn on the stick vacuum and let run until the battery completely drains.

It is the filter`s job to trap dirt and other particles from being expelled back into the air. Even so, filters are probably one of the most ignored aspects of a vacuum cleaner, especially when it comes to their maintenance and care.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

I just bought a foldaway hoover with wide path. I plugged it in and started to vacuum and dust flew everywhere. Walmart would not give me my money back so they gave me another hoover foldaway with the wide path. I thought this one might work. This one does the same thing. It blows dust out the sides and you can’t vacuum with it. Any help would be great.
ANSWER : Your Vac probably does not have a filter installed inside the unit, that is why fine dust escapes through the vents. Remove the dirt canister/cup from the unit and you will see a filter frame behind. Possibly the filter itself is missing or wrongly installed.

My vacuum just stopped working, so I don’t know what the problem is. I used it in the kitchen to vacuum the hard wood floor. I turned it off, and a few minutes later, turned it back on to finish vaccuuming the kitchen floor. It just would not turn on. I had not unplugged it or did anything to it. I then tried to see if it would work in another plug, and no luck. I’m trying to figure out if it can be fixed or if I need to look for a new vacuum.
ANSWER : When I get most Vacuums that have dies on people most of them the wire has been worn and cut one or more wires on the plug cord. Sometimes the cut can be over looked. Please unplug and check the wire carefully.
Also please post the make model and year you bought it would help in getting you a answer.

Brushes only work when Dust Bin is removed!!
I have cleaned & cleaned this thing! It runs for about 2 mins & stops, says “Clean Brushes”! and now it’s very noticeable it’s not picking up well… but is picking up a bit. If the brushes work , without the bin, the problem , the problem could be caused , due the failure at the bin lock mechanism. There is a sensor that checks if the BIN is connected properly or not. This problem is best resolved by getting the same replaced .

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.

Infinity Vaccum by Shark, model number NV31COS, will not start. The vacuum was running just fine until it grabbed the edge of a curtain. Turned it off to release the suction. Turned it back on and was working fine. About a minute later the vacuum was making an odd noise. Every 2 seconds or so it would “heave” (lack of a better word) then go away, then come back and so on. Turned the vacuum off and checked for blockage, none that could be seen or felt, and now the vacuum won’t turn. Any suggestio

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
