How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
Check service panel for tripped breakers/blown fuses. If breaker is tripped, reset it. If fuse is blown, replace it. If vacuum cleaner is plugged in, be sure power button is in the off position before resetting breaker/changing fuse.
Small clothing items like handkerchiefs, socks, silk scarves, and similar items may get sucked up by your vacuum head, but they`re not likely to make it all the way to the central unit. Instead, they will likely clog the pipes, resulting in an expensive technician visit for troubleshooting and removing of the blockage.
If there is a clog in the vacuum, you won`t have good suction and the vacuum won`t work. The clog can be in the vacuum head, the hose or where the hose meets the actual vacuum.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Fine particles. Fine particles are no match for even the strongest vacuums. Construction dust, makeup, used coffee grounds, fireplace ash, and other fine particles can burn out the motor and be released back into the air. It`s best to sweep these items up to keep your vacuum – and yourself – safe.
Grab the clog with a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull it out. Open a pair of needle-nose pliers and feed it into the end of the lower hose. Once you feel the clog, pinch the blockage with your pliers to get a good grip on it. Pull the clog out of the hose and throw it away.
A strong odor from the shellac that coats the copper coil windings is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out. If the motor is still running, even if it turns on and off by itself as it is heating and cooling, you can still run the motor until it gives up for good.
This overload reset switch button (part number 8191505) is for vacuums. Overload reset switch button 8191505 resets the overload switch when you push it. Unplug the vacuum before installing this part. Wear work gloves to protect your hands.
Check the Battery
If your robot won`t start, it likely means the battery is not holding a charge. Plug the battery into a power outlet and allow it to charge fully, and then insert it back into the vacuum and try again. Still having issues? You may need a replacement battery.

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are: .A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN. .Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement. . .A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.
Suction Problem I was vacuuming and stopped to empty the cannister. When I started vacuuming again – the suction wasn’t working properly. The vacuum was just pushing stuff around the floor. I cleaned the hair out the brush on the bottom and it still isn’t working. It was working fine before I emptied the tube 🙁 I can’t figure out what happened.Help!
ANSWER : Greetings from GoVacuum, . .I believe what may have happened is that your vacuum cleaner belt has either broken, or been stretched so far that ithe brushes are no longer spinning fast enough. . .Here’s what you should do to diagnose this problem. . .1. Take the suction hose out of the back of the vacuum (assuming that your vacuum has on-board tools), and see if you have any suction coming from the hose. If you do, this indicates your belt is bad. . .2. If you don’t have suction coming from the hose, then it may be something as simple as replacing the filters, to a clog in the vacuum, or to your motor going bad. . .In my professional opinion though I would say from what you stated that the belt is mostly likely going to be your issue. If you can provide me the model number of your vacuum cleaner, I can walk you through step by step on ow to replace the belt. . .I have posted a short YouTube video on a vacuum belt change, this is not for all vacuums, but it will give you some idea of how to change a belt; . . . .
Thanks, and if you have questions about your particular model, please feel free to contact me at . .[email protected] .1-866-468-2288
Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor, not contacting the carpeting?? I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting. Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.

How can I get my DAB radio working again?
I have a Sony XDRS100CD with DAB radio. The DAB radio has stopped working although I can still use the CD and get FM radio. The unit has a readout on the front that usually shows the time and this stopped working too, presumably because it got the time via the DAB radio.
The unit works from mains and batteries although I have only ever used it on mains.
Vitamix 5000 stopped working. It stops working each time I use it; while blending I first smell a burning smell and then blender stops and will not start again. After sitting overnight it works again next morning and repeat same process. Any ideas how to repair?
ANSWER : It has an internal thermal shutdown. Let it sit for a while and it will reset itself. You can expedite by putting the motor base in the freezer for a few minutes, or by blowing a hair dryer into the base of the motor.
