How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

The Hoover Floormate is a combination of a vacuum and a mop. It deep cleans and scrubs your floors while vacuuming all the dirt and debris leaving no trace behind. It is safe on sealed hardwood, vinyl, ceramic tile, laminate and marble floors.
Any vacuum can clean hardwood floors—this is the simplest possible task for a vacuum cleaner. You don`t need anything special to get dust, hair, crumbs, or anything else off your wood, tile, or laminate floors.
Avoid Vacuum Beater Bars

You`re likely very familiar with the rotating brush on the bottom. This is known as the beater bar. It`s designed to fluff up the carpet nap to remove dirt from the fibers. It will also scratch your hardwood flooring.

It is best to use the Hoover cleaning solution in the Hoover – FloorMate SpinScrub Hard Floor Cleaner. If you decide to use another brand, just be sure not to use a solvent based cleaning concentrates in your cleaner. Also, you cannot use any type of wax in the cleaner.

Start on the far edge of your carpet or rug and push the vacuum forward in a straight line. This movement lifts the nap (or fibers) of the floor covering to reveal any dirt or debris hidden underneath. Then pull the machine back slowly toward you to collect all that debris.
For use on bare floors or sealed wood floors. Not for use on carpets.
If you have dirty filters, you`ll notice a stale odor immediately when you turn on the vacuum and reduced suction as you work. For high traffic areas, the filter may need to be cleaned monthly. For most homes, vacuum filters should be cleaned at least every three months.
For best results the filters can be washed in warm water but check they are thoroughly dry before putting them back into place, this may take up to 24 hours. Hoover recommend that you fit new filters once per year to keep your vacuum cleaner in tip top working order.
In fact, vacuums are superior to mopping practices when it comes to your hardwood, because they suck up the debris and dirt straight away, rather than just spreading those scratch-causing particles around.
If you`re vacuuming hardwood or other uncarpeted floors, put your vacuum on the bare floors setting. This setting uses suction only so your floors don`t get scratched by the powered brush. If your vacuum doesn`t have this setting, use it only on carpet and not on bare floors.
Paul says the best way to maintain hardwood flooring is by vacuuming or sweeping them. “Vacuuming is optimal, as sweeping makes the dust/pathogens go up in the air, only to come back down.”
“We would recommend vacuuming at least once or twice a week—and more often if we have pets—with the right tools to remove dust quickly and effectively,” Patel advises.
You can use any brand in this machine. I have used bissle, hoover, even a Walmart pet one.
The one aspect of cleaning and disinfecting that is the same is that both chemistries must be rinsed. Very seldom does any chemistry get rinsed off the flooring material, let alone disinfectants. So if it isn`t rinsed, that means it is still working.
Scenarios for consumer exposure. Liquid all-purpose cleaners are used for cleaning floors, furniture, toilets, bathrooms and kitchens. For manual cleaning of surfaces with a liquid cleaner, a sponge, cloth or mop is used. Generally the cleaner is diluted, but the cleaner can also be used undiluted (for persistent soil) …
It is not overpowering but leaves a lasting clean smell. I have also started using it on my laminate floors. It does not leave a build up like most floor cleaners do. It also does a wonderful job in my bathrooms.
Take your time. Vacuuming slowly will allow your machine to suck up more dirt and dust, and ultimately get your rugs and carpets much cleaner. Slow vacuuming allows the brush to agitate the carpet properly and suck up the unclean bits that emerge.
When the brushes are up you can get nice and close to carpeted floors and suck up all the dust and nasties hidden in the fibres. If you have hard floors to clean – especially wooden ones – flip the switch and drop the felt and brushes into place. They will help protect your floor being scratched by the vacuum cleaner!
The answer is that you should always dust first and vacuum later. The reason is simple. When you dust, you`ll find that some of the particles wipe away onto your cloth or duster, but you`ll never get all of the particles.
Even if you live by yourself or don`t experience frequent activity in your home, your floors still need attention if you want it to remain spotless. In this case, we recommend giving your floors sweep and mop sessions once a week. Dust and dirt can accumulate over time if no one is going in and out of different rooms.
You can use most carpet shampoos in any type of carpet cleaning machine. However, some solutions may have specific requirements, such as an upright or water-based machine.
Laundry Detergents aren`t Formulated for Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning solutions are specifically formulated to clean and not damage the machines they`re used in and the material they`re treating. Laundry soap is designed to be used in washing machines to clean clothing.

You`ll want to use a solution that effectively breaks down dirt without damaging the fibers. Synthetic fibers can usually tolerate solutions with a pH level from 0 to 10. Natural fibers are a bit more delicate. So, clean them with solutions that are closer to the middle of the pH scale.

ANSWER : .Vacuuming Liquids
.1. When picking up small amounts of liquid
.the filter may be left in place.

.we recommend that the filter be
.removed. If the filter is not removed, it
.will become saturated and misting
.may appear in the exhaust.
.3. After using the vac to pick up liquids,
.the filter must be dried to reduce the
.risk of possible mildew and damage to
.the filter.
.4. When the liquid in the drum reaches a
.predetermined level, the float mechanism
.will rise automatically to cut off

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.
