Frequently Asked Questions About Kirby Belts. Why Do I Keep Burning Belts? It is likely the belt isn`t turning freely on the brush roll.
Kirby vacuum cleaners are made of die cast aluminum where most other vacuums are made of plastic. This makes the Kirby vacuum more durable than other model on the market. This is why the average lifespan of a Kirby is over 30 years.
Kirby vacuum prices are higher than many vacuums found at big-box stores, but that`s because Kirby vacuums are made of durable materials that will last for years. Why replace an inexpensive vacuum over and over again when you can purchase a Kirby vacuum? This complete home cleaning system that will last for a lifetime.
Blockage – when a vacuum cleaner becomes unusually loud, it is normally because of a blockage of some sort. This is a problem that is easily solved by turning off the cleaner, check for blockages in the pipes, and remove them. You can also check and empty the canister to remove any possible blockages there as well.
Remove the brushroll and clean all hair, string, and lint from the brushroll bearings. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn`t spin after you clean the brushroll, consider replacing the brushroll.
Q: It smells like the belt is burning. What is wrong? A:It is likely the belt isn`t turning freely on the brush roll. Flip out the belt lifter handle and turn it clockwise until the green arrows line up.
At a minimum, aim for every other month. However, if you use your vacuum most days, a new filter bag every month is your best bet.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
One of the easiest ways to increase vacuum cleaner suction is to empty the dust bag or container. Dust containers need to have enough space for airflow, otherwise, they could get clogged and have less suction power. Regularly check your dust compartment and empty or change it when it`s already 70-80% full.
The most common reason for vacuum motors failing is overheating. Most `dry` vacuums have a flow-though motor. These motors use the air they have sucked up the dust with, to cool themselves. When there is a blockage, flow-though motors are unable to cool themselves due to the lack of airflow.
For more than 100 years, every Kirby has been handcrafted in the United States from die-cast aluminum.
The price of vintage Kirby vacuum cleaners can vary widely, depending on their age and condition. The least expensive ones are probably worth about $100 and high-end models might sell for $2,000 or more. But if you`re looking to buy one that hasn`t been refurbished, expect to spend several hundred dollars.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
As a general rule, if the repair is going to cost less than half the cost of a new vacuum cleaner, it`s best to go ahead and get it repaired. When the service tops half the price of a new machine, it`s probably best to invest in a newer model.
If your vacuum pump overheats when operating or constantly shuts down because of overheating, you should consider replacing it. Replacing the vacuum pump will prevent heat-related damage and save you money on costly repairs. While HVAC vacuum pumps can be very durable, they will not last a lifetime if used regularly.

Jim Kirby created the first Kirby vacuum cleaner in 1906, and ever since, The Kirby Company has continuously improved its American-made, hand-crafted Kirby Home Cleaning System design to ensure best-in-class performance.
If the cleaner becomes noisy or starts vibrating, it may be because some debris has got tangled around the brush roll or agitator situated in the bottom of the cleaner.
This means it is best to choose a vacuum cleaner with a noise output that is less than 70 dB. However, the noise levels of vacuum cleaners fall between 75dB to 85dB.
Vacuum Cleaner: Why doesn`t my vacuum cleaner`s brush roll spin? A broken drive belt, damaged brush roll, jammed brush roll bearings, tripped brush roll motor overload, failed brush roll motor or a wiring failure in the wand or nozzle can prevent the brush roll from spinning.
There is a fill line on the disposable bag and when the dirt reaches this line you should replace your disposable bag because it is no longer filtering properly. Be sure to utilize only Genuine Kirby filter bags, available here to ensure your Kirby system is cleaning properly.
Does Kirby need air? While underwater, Kirby can swim in any direction, and will not need to come up for air, though he cannot inhale in most games. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby can only swim on the surface of water, but can use his inhale while swimming.
The burning smell means something has overheated. The fan motor and other parts need to cool down before you investigate any further. You should also avoid breathing in more of the fumes of whatever plastic or paint might be burning up. Turn off the fan and walk away for several minutes.
A common source of these odors is the fluorescent light ballast. When called to such an incident, you typically will find an electrical odor or a haze of smoke. Overheating ballasts give off a distinctive odor; with experience, you will learn to easily recognize the odor at subsequent incidents.

Kirby Vacuum Hi Bruce, In my opinion, yes the Kirby would be worth it, as long as you are not replacing the motor. The switch would be the most expensive part besides the motor that would need to be replaced. The switch costs USD 49.99, the cord is roughly $39.99, and the carbon brushes are $29.99. I can easily walk you through any of these repairs should you need help. Kirby’s are great vacuum cleaners, that usually last 30+ years. Brand new these machines sell in the US for $1600 or more,

My older Dyson DC14 (the purple one) early model with a clutch on the beater bar belt needs a clutch replacement. The bar has been cleaned and there are no worn or damaged parts so I conclude that the clutch at the motor end of the belt needs to be replaced. I can find the part online but no instructions on how to disassemble the vacuum to get to and replace it. Dysons only advice is to give me the address and phone of the nearest service center. Can you help me?
ANSWER : Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some very useful info on dismantling and repairing Dysons.
.
.Although this site doesnt actually cover the DC14 yet, the DC14 is very similar to the DC07 so as regards dissassembling the machine, and replacing the clutch, my experience is that the DC07 info will enable you to do the job.

My wall ceiling fan’s control unit UC 9051T failed. Light switch button does not work. If I replace it with some generic universal unit, do I need to replace transducer located in the fan housing also, or all of them are compatible? Thanks in advance. M
ANSWER : First, you didn’t say you checked that the bulb worked. Is that burned out?
.
.If bulb is ok, you will have to make sure the switch is matched with the fan (ususally a set of 4, 6 or 8 micro-switches have to be set the same in both switch and fan to be on same frequency of communication – even if you have an exact US 9051T controller).
.
.A whole new fan is not too expensive ($100) and may be best route if you use the fan alot and it is over 7 years old – just an option.
.
.Also, just because the light doen’t work doesn’t mean it is the switch transmitter that is broken, it could also be the receiver. Call the company on the website below – they will either tell you how to check or you can send everything to them and they will check for you.

.Sorry for making it so difficult – I hope it is just your bulb.

I need to replace the belt on my kirby. – Kirby Ultimate G Bagged Upright Vacuum
ANSWER : If this is like my Kirby, there are colored slots on each end that slides the brush in and out and they are different sizes but the belt is connected in the middle. First take the bottom cover off. It should be made out of rubber and metal, and it pops off, you then slide out the brush, take the old belt off and look up inside where you took it off and there is s hook so you first hook the belt on there and stretch it and slide the brush back thru it and then stretch it a little so as to slide it back into the slots on each sde when it is in place you then put the cover back on and your done.
